Pilea Peperomioides, Chinese money plant, Ufo plant... I don't think any other plant has as many names as this one! It is a staple plant in every houseplant collection and it even comes in different variegations. Totally collectible, and totally struggling sometimes. Yellow or brown leaves on a pilea are no rarity!
Here is a quick pilea care guide with the conditions it needs, as well as a " how to propagate pilea?" part.
Enjoy ♥
xoxo Kristina

Sometimes I struggle with a plant for way to long before I decide to finally look up it's native environment, please tell me I'm not alone in this 😅. Luckily I found a great way to fix up those "out of hand pileas" 😁. Have a peek into my last video about "The most wanted plant updates of the year" :kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gLh9rKaZx766dZ8.html I feel like it is one of my best videos editing-wise ^^

I give it a lot of bright light, and let soil dry out at least 90%, then water it very well. It seems this plant likes that very much.

Glad it was helpful & as always thank you for watching Carol 💚! I think it isn't necessarily a bad thing when they show these signs, maybe you don't even mind the missing leaves on the bottom but. It is kind of a natural way of the seasons but if it does bother you, then I'm sure with some attention and experimentation you can provide them with the perfect conditions 💪. See u soon :)

Love my pilea! I give it lots of bright indirect light from a west facing window. I rotate it once a week to keep the stem straight. I put on my humidifier once a day too. I live in Ontario Canada and got it in the winter, and it's still producing lots of leaves! I don't use terra cotta pots because it dries the plant more quickly. I also use distilled water only to water and use a moisture meter to let me know when to water. These are my tips for success!

I checked the "spam folder" for comment but there is no comment from you in there luckily 💚 I think I also got you last one & as always it make my day to hear from you again. I totally feel you on the topic of not giving a plant the best life, maybe it's just not as important to us. I don't think that's a bad thing. You might want to think about it though, maybe it's a candidate for the next plant purge. 😂

You have given me an idea to try with one of my Pilea children. Because they grow on rocks as moss does, I am thinking that wick watering in very shallow pots with either mostly perlite mix, or moss may work. Maybe I will mount one on a rock and sit it in water. That would give it high humidity as well.

I feel that, there are always phases of good growth and maybe in the future it might not grow as well for a while but thta's alright. I also came to terms with the seasons and particularly winter, just being tough on plants and that there is not much I can do for my plants regarding that. I can't possibly put all my plants in a perfect warm and bright environment under a grow light or in a propbox 😅😅😅

I started a leaf cut and the roots grew well. I planted it and it is still alive. However, after 5 months it’s still just one leaf. Is this normal?
@LeafyLuster
@LeafyLuster 9 ай бұрын
As far as I know, it is not enough to cut and root the leaves. The leaf will survive and live on as a ghost leaf. It's important to cut out a piece of the stem with the leaf attached and root it afterward. I believe only the stem has meristematic tissue and thus has the ability to grow new plants from it.

Ive had 2 of these Pileas ....killed the first....then was gifted another 😞. It did poorly for me so I kicked it outside when Spring came where my husband cut all the leaves off the mother plant, set it on the deck table and watered often adding Miracle Gro fertilizer a couple times a month and it became a big beautiful plant! So in September I had to bring it back inside 😞 and its slowly lost many leaves and looks bad. Its in an East facing Minnesota USA window. I repotted with new soil and now waiting for it to dry out 50% till watering again per online info and the maybe fertilize??? IDK what to do next....move to South window? Help!
@LeafyLuster
@LeafyLuster 8 ай бұрын
Oh boy this is exactly what happened with 3 of my pileas this year 😅 I feel you. I had them out for the summer (in direct sun) and they never looked better! Now in autumn I took them back inside. And they look sad again. Put them in the sunniest spot in the house (south or south west sounds good). If they still produce new leaves you can lightly fertilize. Maybe also check the roots if the plant needs a repot after the summer growth spurt. I wish you all the best for your pilea, at least now you know next summer it will be pretty again.

@@LeafyLuster thank you for the encouragement. I repotted 2.5 weeks ago, roots looked fine. Watered till it ran out the bottom and I'm still waiting for it to dry out before watering again. I did put it right back in my MN east window and it continued to lose leaves so this week I moved it to a South window. Now we will wait and see. I might try bottom feeding and may try a diluted fertilizer if sun doesn't work it's magic.....if we get some sun that is!😂

OMG, yeah. Pilea Peperomioides, I got it, because everyone said how great, a must have, the be-all-end-all. I hated it from the time I got it. Stuck it on a dark shelf & tried to kill it with neglect for 3 years, but it just kept hanging on - and hung on well?! Don't know how, but I finally felt bad for abusing a living being and now I water it. Definitely a hate / love relationship, but at least the abuse is over ;) My apologies to the plant gods!!
@roxannegordon6162

Why don't you stake your Pilea on a pole of some kind? I see your big one is flopped over like a trailing plant. It seems to be ok. Much fuller than mine. I have mine of a pole. The main stem is way too tall with leaves only on the top 1/3 rd. of the stem. Very discouraging. I'm tempted to chop it off like you did in this video. I need to be braver to do that. I should have done that a year ago. I have two babies that are doing well. I think I'll keep them with the mother to fill out the plant. I may check out Lowes to see if they have a Pilea that needs a home and experiment with cutting down the main stem, see if it survives. Thanks for the details in this video. So many plant videos show one plant while talking about another topic. Not informative at all.
