Enjoyed watching your video...was very helpful! Noticed you mentioned having issues removing the ring between the hose and handle. I have been successful removing the ring by slightly turning it counterclockwise and then pulling it off while doing the reverse to put the ring back on. Hopefully I've explained this to make sense😊

There's a few things to note here. First, the bottom ring is a twist lock. Prying it off with a screwdriver is wrong, and can break the part. Second, do not just wipe down the connectors. They need dielectric grease to prevent wear. All that "black stuff" you see is normal, and so is a little dust - it's a vacuum cleaner. Lastly, this is not always the fix. The Miele hoses are poorly engineered, and the wires often break at the point where the enter the hose. I have gone through several hoses, and although they can occasionally be re-soldered, they eventually break right at the entry point, leaving no room to reconnect. Thanks Miele engineers for costing me several hundred dollars for a simple broken wire.

To remove the collar from the handle to the hose, after removing the T9, rotate the collar about 3/4 an inch counterclockwise and it will come off. The collar is keyed so there is no prying and marring this way.

BIG THANK YOU! My Miele Red Velvet S558 hadn't worked right for the last ten years, so I stopped using it. Every 2 seconds it would short out. Exasperating! After watching your video, I opened up the handle, found lots of dust bunnies between the little circuit board and the silver rings, and cleaned it. That did the trick. I finally have a working Miele.

Thank you very much - this helped me to dissemble the power handle end of our Miele hose so that I could look for an obstruction (turned out to be a quart-size Ziploc bag which had become stuck inside). For removing that bottom handle piece nearest the hose, I used "grippy" work gloves and found that the piece twisted a bit counterclockwise and then could be more easily pulled down, without using a screwdriver that might mar the plastic.

man should of read this comment first instead of poking a slot head and marring the ring!! yes all you need to do is twist and pull. This video needs an update................

Thank you very much for your information, & thank you to your commentors who provided instructions on getting the collar ring off easily & made me aware of the two raised pins to set the board down prior to re-securing with the screw. I was able to quickly fix my vacuum myself. I had taken my vacuum to an authorized Miele Service technician but he was unable to replicate the problem - but it happened to me every time.

I just watched your vid. The small circular piece that you have trouble with getting off at the beginning, just twist the piece ever so slighty and it will come off with no tool. It isn't easy though. But that is how it looks to be able to come on and off. Anyway, thank you. You just saved me money. My vac is declogged. Thanks!! 😀😃🙂 I appreciate you making this video.

Thanks so much for this video! I suspected I had a problem with the electronic circuit board, but when I disassembled the hand piece, it was clear that the problem was dust grime.

Alec, Txs so much for the video, lots of lint/dust affecting contact in my old Capricorn S5989! Quick fix and you saved me $175!

Thank you. I'd like to add, the collar is a slip lock, just push in turn counter clockwise 1/4 inch and it will slip away. Secondly, if you're only cleaning the hose from a "oops" or the contacts, you need not remove the two screws on the head. Again, thank you for posting, it saved me a repair bill when the misuses had an "oops" moment.

I know this video is, by some standards, old. I am by most standards old told as is my Miele "Blue Moon" vacuum cleaner, but the theory and principles of this repair worked perfectly to do my repair even though the mechanics were slightly different. On my vacuum the 1/4 turn trick in the comments below doesn't work to remove the slip ring but there is a small screw on one side of the slip ring holding it on. Thanks for the help.

Thank you for the video. We thought we would have to replace it when the kids vacuumed up a marble and it got stuck. The trick to the ring is to turn it a small semi twist and it’ll pop right off without prying it or causing any damage.

Thanks for the video. Well explained. Just to add to comments below. When screwing the green board down, there are 2 raised pins near the screw hole which locate inside 2 holes on the green board. This will make positioning the board easy.

Video fix worked, but it still cut out. Hubby noticed the cutting out was happening not when he turned and twisted the handle end, but where it connected at the vacuum body. There wasn't any visible crud there, but cleaning the contacts there with 90% rubbing alcohol fixed the problem there. Works perfectly now.

I have an S558 and the procedure was similar, but the ring did not twist off It has a pair of screws on one end and the other end has a tab that came free and went back in with a levering motion of the ring. I found a large dust bunny in mine and it worked flawlessly after the repair. Thanks again.

Thanks for the vid. Sometimes cleaning the contacts also mean removing the protective contact grease, and may increase their wear, as the contacts can get oxidized and aged sooner with direct exposure to ambient air. some contact silicone grease may be a good option after cleaning. just my 2cents

Thanks. I have a different Miele model with only three contacts-- didn't seem that dirty, but after cleaning it up with alcohol and adding some plastic safe dielectric lubricant, it all works great again. Thanks for the video mine quits. When I unplug hose vaccume runs fine. I will clean both ends there are slip rings at the other end
@rickvitucci19988 жыл бұрын
Yes, the ring is a twist-lock, but I used a butter knife and your screwdriver method before i found that out. I guess i should have read the comments first. The broken wire was on the canister-side of the hose, right where it comes out of the molded plastic. What a horrible design. I dug thru the plastic with an x-acto knife and soldered it back together. The wife is thrilled that her $1000 vacuum cleaner is fixed. I got nothing.

Found your video, was looking for a s514 canister vac who loses electrical connection at the canister side. Am hoping it's a quick and easy fix, like unscrew it and spray with electrical contact cleaner. Seen that one happen?
@mattheviewer6 ай бұрын
helpful, but you don't need to "worry" first hose fitting apart, as once first screw is out, you simply have to turn the ring CCW (assuming nozzle faces away from you), internal tabs will unlock and ring will come off, letting you clean the slip rings/brushes.
@VacuumspotAu10 жыл бұрын

First of all...THANK YOU! My Red Velvet hose rings and contacts were filthy! Now reassembling but...my handle has some sort of metal bar from the front fitting to the hose rings curving thru the handle. Is this essential to operation as it does not appear to do much with handle reassembled?? Again thank you...saved me a few hundred dollars!

A couple of comments: 1. Regarding the release of the end collar, once the screw is removed, with the nozzle held so the hose is running away from you: grip the collar and rotate it slightly clockwise. It'll rotate approximately 1/4" and then come off easily, without any prying. There are tangs locking into pockets, but there are slots at one end of each pocket, and that rotation moves the tang over to the slot, freeing it. Rotating that collar to release is absurdly easier, and: this was a bit of a sand-pounder for me: I fought that collar, using multiple prying instruments, and was thinking "this is tougher than getting a tire off a rim" lol. Please, please: if you read this VaccuumSpot, maybe redo that portion of the video, or add a text note? 2. There are small "beads on the tip of each of the eight tangs that run along the conductor tracks. They appeared crusted on mine, and running a very fine file (spark plug file) gently over them cleaned them up. Always file "longitudinally", not sideways, and go gently, to avoid bending them out of alignment. Also, I found an isopropyl alcohol soaked q-tip swab good for cleaning up the conductor tracks, the nylon end gasket, and any rub points. Finally, got everything together, and...: the vacuum works, continously, no more sporadic shut offs. Many thanks, appreciate it.

I cleaned the contacts in the handle like you did but didnt work also could that on and off switch in the handle be bad?

Thanks for the video! It gave me hope that I can get this hose off. I've been trying to get the collar off from the handle for about 2 hours now. This thing is built like Fort Knox. Screws are out. I tried to twist as other folks have commented. No movement whatsoever. I tried to pry it with the screwdriver. All I did was tear up the plastic. Any suggestions? An employee at my store sucked a glass bottle (yes, exactly the right size) up into the handle and I cannot get it to come out. Need to get the hose out for access . . . Took them a millisecond to suck up the bottle and I've spent 2 plus hours trying to get this thing apart! I've even tried to break the glass on the bottle to get it out in pieces with no luck. No vacuum repair places within 60 miles of me.
