Definitely looking forward to your Nioh 2 review. For me, I absolutely love the game and this it’s badass, but the difficulty can be pretty brutal and if you want to see all it has to offer you’re gonna be grinding like a madman. But still one of the best action-RPG/Souls-likes I’ve ever played. Even better if you got a friend or two to play with!

Eh, with enough skill, a player can go through the main story all the way through dream of the Nioh, using only what you happen to pick up as you go. Add to that, that a player can easily hit around lv 450 just by playing normally. (450 is enough to do all but underworld). Grinding/farming is never necessary. That said, if the challenge becomes a little much (couple of dlc bosses on higher cycles basically), the option is there to make powerful builds, and top out your stats, to make it easier. Even then, with option to make any entire set, and fully customize accessories, means it might take a few tries to get smithing texts; but otherwise, grinding/farming is only for extreme min/maxing. That's what's great about Nioh 2: you can approach the game how you want to. Don't want to farm for specific sets, effects, or levels? Master the combat and you never have to. Functions just as great as more of an action game. If you want to lean into the RPG mechanics, and make 30 different builds, farm till you get everything in your set with the best of 3 or 4 "starred" affixes. Or you simply don't click with the combat, want to simplify it? You can do that. And both styles, so to speak, are equally fun and equally valid. Nothing quite as exciting as seeing the big numbers, and the long list of all your effects, crushing enemies with ease. On the other hand, it's such a thrill to finish DotN at lv 300 with basic gear; really makes the combat shine even more. TL:DR : Farming/grinding is never needed, but you're well rewarded if you do. Combat is rewarding either way, but really shines with mastery. Was pretty annoying to farm for the skills though.

Nioh 2 is the best soulslike game I've ever played, and it's not even close. Every annoyance I have with Dark Souls and the broader genre (like boring and clunky combat, overrwrought level design, lack of clear storytelling, etc) is fixed and it's chock full of rich mechanics and dense with content on top of that. Can't wait for that review.

I wasn't disappointed myself, Nioh 2 is so good I think it was good for the series to take a break to experiment with something fresh and come up with new ideas. Plus the Wo Long dodge counter mechanic feels so good I wouldn't want it to go anywhere, even if that game does feel like it was kind of rushed.
@ricardodarcangelo2437
@ricardodarcangelo2437 6 ай бұрын
First of all, even with the bit of disappointment for Wo Long, it's definitely preferred to have devs trying new things, rather than churning out endless sequels. Better a slightly disappointing new IP (that was still a really solid game, just not as good as Nioh 2), than making the same game for over a decade, with only minor tweaks. Fromsoft, for example, definitely would be lesser, and players more fatigued with the samey-ness had it not been for Sekiro. Also, strangers of paradise was a great spiritual successor to Nioh 2, which hit all the right notes for the combat lovers, but didn't have as much for the build/RPG element lovers (and didn't have the staying power overall). Definitely missing out if missing that one. But TN have really been working to make Wo Long better since release as well. Each weapon now has a unique function (staves can hold attack for a continuous barrage. Long swords have a charged attack option for any attack. Caestus can store up to 3 entire bars of spirit. Dual weapons have a perfect parry that greatly increases spirit gain, etc). There's 8 slots for wizardry now, so you can fit any of your preferred spells. And on Ng+ and up, you have 6 martial arts on weapons (anything 5* and up. 3 on 4*), and you can change out martial arts to your liking. Gear effects have been buffed to be more impactful (5-6% per piece, instead of the 2-3% on launch). And the new additions from the dlcs have greatly improved the combat loop and the fun; as well as the additions to later new game cycles. Most importantly, spirit is now much much easier to manage; meaning wizardry focused, or MA focused combat isn't so limiting anymore. As long as you're deflecting at least decently, you don't run out of use. Wo Long may not be the once in a million game that Nioh 2 was, but still a great game that they've been working to improve via player feedback since launch. Between listening to players, and working hard to keep fixing the game still to the day, is more than most devs do; and the players still playing are loving the game in its current state

I know you are PC-focused, but I am always delighted to see you dabble in more console-focused stuff like Granblue or FF7 Remake... at least having them on your radar. You're an absolute monster when it comes to crushing games and all, but if you can't squeeze them in, that's understandable. If you do, I will definitely enjoy those reviews! I'm quite looking forward to seeing more coverage on Banishers too, as I'm unsure of its "RPG Bonafides," let's say, and think it just looks like a typical, current-gen, story-driven action game to me. Could be cool, but I need to see more, so I'll be looking forward to more coverage in general. Everything here looks and sounds interesting; you always cover fascinating stuff so it's good to see 2024 will be starting off strong!

Honestly, out of all the games you listed here, I'm most excited about Geneforge 2 Remake. The series was my jam back in the day. Wild Tangent helped sold me on that demo way back, saved enough to get the original, got 2, and then the rest (there were 5). Like FATE, Tradewinds and Chocolatier, they were my saving grace throughout the mid 2000s. Still have the games and I do still play from time to time when games of today hardly give me any satisfaction. In fact, I've been playing older games simply because today's hasn't given me that satisfaction (obviously from very few exceptions *cough*) that I've long for of decades past. Can't wait. Keep up the work. Much love and respect.

@@MortismalGaming It was my ARPG before all other ARPGs. Yes, even before the Diablos, Torchlight, Titan Quest, etc. I could only play demos from the Wild Tangent game domain because my dad believed i needed an expensive rig to play it with. Which in one way or another he was right. I got into the others around 2010 when i got a job. Then i started to build my rig, and then I went and bought some games i missed out on. First the Diablo series starting with the original of course, and then Torchlight, Titan Quest, Poe. I even dabbled in Sacred, which takes me back because it released in '04. And then Grim Dawn and now Last Epoch. Can't wait for that game. The Geneforge series was along with FATE and had to play the demo. But i could ask my dad to buy me computer games only twice a year because of the aforementioned reason. FATE and Geneforge were two of the games i asked my dad to buy in '05. I never looked back after that. Can't wait for your "Review after 100%" video on this obscure gem. Much love and respect.

Dude I have played so much Stalker I imagine I've probably put over 2000 hours over my own 10 years between the three games and mods. I hope the sequel is good! I would totally watch a video of yours on the original games and any mods. Stalker has a huge modding scene and has blown up in size immensely the last few years. Also look forward to your Oblivion playthrough. I would love to see you try out a narrative review style where you go over what your character did in your playthrough since everyone knows about Oblivion. I bet you will still remember a lot from your old playthroughs when finishing it this time. I also look forward to your Nioh 2 review. I managed to finish my honor mode run of BG3 and 100% the game last week, it was pretty damn nerve wracking, I almost lost the run against Raphael in House of Hope as I tried to use barrelmancy on him but due to a fluke, it ended up doing more damage to my party than to Raphael. Was pretty fun though and made me appreciate certain classes and feats more than when I could save scum.

Man, Last Epoch is such a gem game. Crafting, how trading is gonna work, build variety (each skill has its own skill tree), items etc. are much better done in LE than in D4. It's not as confusing as PoE and not as easy as D4

Last Epoch is very good. Depending on what you mean of "100%" could take a while, it have quite the "horizontal" length. Reaching end game with one character, not so long. But as, there are 5 classes with 3 specialization... if you want to explore all the different gameplay shades that will be long. I have more than 350h in it pretty rare for me in one game.

I hope you're able to find time for Last Epoch. It's my favorite Diablo-like arpg. It has its flaws (ever since they updated it for multiplayer it's been buggy, and the main campaign story still won't be fully complete at 1.0), but the item craftiing and skill-customization systems they have are fantastic.

Granblue Fantasy Relink seems like a mix of Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star Online. There's a story but also lots of quest you do from a hun area.

I really enjoyed seven when I played it. The first time wasn't great, but I played it a second time taking my time with it and I think it was great then

After Oblivion you should totally review Enderal: Forgotten Stories; don't let the fact that it's a mod stop you from playing it. It's truly an amazing RPG with an even better story.

As soon as I finish 100% Wo Long's DLC's I might reinstall Nioh 2 before I work through 7 more Wrath,7 more BG3,and 3 more Rogue Trader play throughs. Maybe by then the Elden Ring DLC will be out

I'm still hoping for a Dead State review =) Imo it's the only "fallout style" CRPG that manages roleplaying that feels naturalistic, open and mechanically meaningful. Also, crossing my fingers for Broken Roads eventual release.

Cheeki Breeki! I'm a little nervous about Stalker 2.. That 'AAA' tag scares me.. Gonna be interesting to watch your Oblivion review though.. Hehe..

I think everyone is a little nervous about Stalker 2. It's not a sure thing. It's also not the usual wheelhouse for this channel. At the very least, it will probably look cool with Unreal 5. Looking forward to the review.

Dude as a big stalker fan myself it's probably gonna suck or just not be what everyone wants. But hey it can't be too bad right? Microsoft wouldn't let that slide right?
