Hey David! I'm not sure if you remember but I had commented a week or two ago on your "Problem with Trailhead" video. I had mentioned that I had left a boring Salesforce Dev job, and now after a Master's got an offer from Salesforce. You wont believe this, but I've landed an Interview with Palantir for their new grad role. I strongly feel that I'm not good enough for their role, and my college grad coursework has made it pretty difficult to prepare for their interview. Anyways your video is pretty timely :)

Although people complain about clickbait this is the exact information needed. The company is real. There is still time to recoup some of your losses. One of the main reasons for the IPO is so employees can get rich.
@khmer313 жыл бұрын
David. I am sorry for your loss. I wish I have known your channel earlier so I can at least share my 2 cents. I knew about Palantir a long time ago and I have always wondered if they have a product or just a consulting service. They have been very good at cloaking themselves and finally I concluded that they are a consulting service company. That type of business makes money for the insiders but can’t yield much for passive investors.

Hello David, Indeed, you are doing a great job. I love your site and your videos. As an entrepreneur, I just would like to share my point of view with you. 1) You worked hard, investigated, took risks, and made the best decision at the time based on what you knew. Otherwise, since you think deeply, you would have taken another. It is easy and frustrating to remake the past with the knowledge of the future. Who knows what would have happened? better? worse? 2) You haven't lost any money. You just missed winning some, which is significantly different. (Forgive my childish English, because I am French) All the best for you,

I hate people who hide their mistakes and just show their wins. We all make mistakes, not everyone learns from them. My respects

@DdossAttacks3 жыл бұрын
sorry to hear that. sounds like you overleveraged yourself. It's okay I did the same, but on a much smaller scale. The big lesson is to scale into positions over a few days at a minimum. Here they are now bouncing back, which shows how a smaller position could protect capital while in a short-term downturn. Another option would be to scale into positions using put options so that you get paid to buy the stocks you want. PLTR doesn't have options yet so that wouldn't work. Also suggests we should be wary of brand new companies until they prove themselves.
@DdossAttacks3 жыл бұрын
So I actually listened to how you say you lost 450k, but that's not really true if you were working in the time since you didn't take the offer. Subtract the wages you've made since then and then you would see the lost opportunity cost. Basically someone offered to pay you more and you said no.
@randallm90833 жыл бұрын
Cool story man... hope all is well
@thunderhitmeinthe3 жыл бұрын
Technically it’s not a loss, since you personally did not purchase any underlying stock, and you did not have anything subtracted from your current portfolio/bank account. I would rather say this was a missed opportunity to potentially add on to what you currently have, but I definitely would not consider this as a loss. You did not lose $450,000 and you did not make $450,000. Just like how we all wish we had bought Amazon back in the day, this is the same situation. I personally don’t think you should bum yourself out about this one, going back 8 years it was impossible to know if palantir would still even be here. So if you did accept that job offer it would have been somewhat of a gamble, of course we know what the answer is now, but at the time it was a gamble for you. Just like how Amazon was a gamble before it blew up.

Garbage in and Garbage out, agreed and AI really sucks at recycling. Palantir reminds me lot of Former Admiral Pondexer's TIA program but managed by a private software company. Also it would really be cool if they devolped predictive intergraded budgeting and contract transparency software as well for the US and Local Governments. As such this being a nich but reliable, hard to replacate and even more difficult to replace product however I imagine smaller companies or foreign both public and private won't show much interest unless the USA Government "nicely asks" Palantir software for by states, local and possibly even foreign governments.
