My Saab 9-3's EGR Cooler Split ! EGR DELETE

A common issue whereby the EGR cooler flexi splits causing an exhaust leak on the 1.9TiD engine has befallen me, worse still the bolts are in a bad way so strap yourself in for a front end off job!

I done this job too, managed to do it with out taking the bumper off , if you have a dpf keep an eye on it as it won't regen with that blank on it

Does the other side of the erg pipe keep that yellow plastic on it? If so does that mean it’s blanked off? Thanks

Hi mate, I see you scrapped it eventually😔. I've had my 1.9tid 8valve sportwagon 12 years now and wondered when you did the delete, the egr was it fitted back onto the blanking plate? I like to get prepared if I get this issue, thanks

Can anyone provide a link for the blanking kit.... Can't find one anywhere. Found a blanking plate for the egr but not the manifold end.

From where did you buy blanking plates? Could you give me some dimensions between holes of the one you placed on exhaust manifold?

Ebay! Just search 'saab 9-3 egr delete'. It's for the Z19DTH engine.

What did you have to remove to access the pipe, bumper and radiator?

I dont think you need to remove anything, but the torx screws will be seized. So the more acsess you can get the better. But i would not drain the radioator and deffently not the ac in the video, just push those things and leave it connected.

About to to this repair on mt Cadillac BLS with the same engine, do you really need to remove so much from the front to do the job?

Not necessarily, its just that the bolts are often seized and hard to access which is what happened in this case !

I’ve just developed a nasty whistle from this pipe at 166k. Already blanked off the valve itself and deleted from ECU, so just going to remove the pipe and stick another blank on.

Sorted it out for me, just file it down a bit and put lots of sealant on it !

Next it will be your flexi pipe on exhaust that will corrode away. My 2008 9-3 has both flexi pipe corroded and egr pipe split. I'm on to both jobs now and luckily I have no dpf on my model as standard from factory which would be another headache at some point if your car has one?

They seem to love corroding on these. And its crazy how much it can effect the performance. Im starting to hear another blow so I think you might be onto something.

@@ItsDanLatham Yeh mine is the 150 bhp model and at the moment 1.0 litre Nissan micros are leaving me standing at traffic lights. Ive lost an enormous amount of power. Its that slow that even Lorrys set off quicker than me lol. But yeh I've just finished taking exhaust off and tomorrow gonna carry on as its got dark. Have a look for black soot on the flexi parr of exhaust pipe or listen near there and if you really wanna pin point it then I suggest u use some washing up liquid mixed with water in any spray bottle.. i used a flash one lol. Then I put leaf blower into one side of exhaust and shoved a rag in the other side (as it has twin outlets at back) then switched leaf blower on and sprayed all the way from back of exhaust all the way to the front under the engine. Be generous with the amount u spray. Plenty is good. Then I sprayed in the engine bay area near egr cooler pipe and found that leak too. Best method and pinpoints every location and really quick to do if u have a leaf blower

Please help me 😂I did the egr little pipe like you, didn't work so had it all cleaned out etc, but I still got the blanking plate. Ok so I gave to mechanic, said he's fitted it, but,that pipes still on, I thought the pipe gets taken off and its blanked where the pipe was?? Or is it somewhere else??

It does get blanked there yes. He could have put the pipe back on top of it, but it sounds like maybe it was just blanked at one side and not the other.

I took a 50 cent coin piece and welded shut. It only cost me 50 cents and some welding wire.

I have a crack on the same pipe but i dont want to remove whole bumper for it, jesus 😂

You might be able to get to it and crack the bolts off, only reason we had to go this far is because they were so badly seized 😂

@@BiHSLK yeah very common unfortunately! It will feel much more responsive when its fixed too, it loses a lot of power when this gets bad

I don't get it, you can do away with the pipe? . I got a mechanic to fit a new pipe, 30 quid/ish eBay. It was a bit of a pig coz 1 screw needed drilling out and he had to saw/grind off the old pipe/gasket. Problems ..the netting on the new pipe disintegrated within minutes?! And then... two days later, I did a 3 point turn, and all of a sudden, engine lost its oomph, there was a horrible burning smell and basically its fukt??? I managed to get home but it won't rev over 1.5 , performance is nil! And when I popped the bonnet , gave engine a good rev, it started smoking like hell... what the fuck is up with it? Im sure its connected to this pipe I've just had done..... engine management light is on... nightmare..help???!!!!

Yep, I blanked it both ends. You can map out the EML!
