As to cutting a soft bait down, I had found 3 soft swimbaits discarded, 3 1/4 to 3 3/4", that were used and torn on the head end. Being frugal to the point of cheap, I cut them down to about 2", super glued them to a ned rig hook and cut the hook end down to a taper to match the head of the ned rig hook. I had been fishing the Rage swimbait in 3.25 and 3.75" size but the bass just refused to pay any attention. Before I started fishing the modified soft swim bait I tried spraying it with the Yum Shad Scent. The first two times out the YSS caught more bass than my companion who used to be a tourmament fisherman. After the second time out it also stopped performing. I decided to stop using the expensive FooFoo juice and make my own. I bought 2 tins of sardines in oil at about a buck each, poured them in their oil into a pan along with about a cup of Canola oil, and simmered this for about 10 min. I removed the sardines for my own consumption and added a tsp of garlic powder and a half tsp of table salt to the pan and stured the mix, let it cool and strained the mix into the washed out Yum container. If you are smart DON'T simmer this stuff in your house, a divorce could clean you out. I've been fishing this mix for about a week now and still catching bass when the other fishermen and women are not.

20 plus years ago I made a do-it crappie head mold so it took 1/0 and 2/0 hooks and used the front half of used worms. I only used that rig in super weedy ponds where the bass would cruse and wernt interested in anything with to much weight and had a ton of baits thrown at them. A 1/32 head with a 2/0 hook and 3"-4" of straight worm on it was the deal. Caught fish like nothing else in certain conditions and no one else had anything like it, at the time... :)

I take nail polish and color my own heads. I add red eyes, paint them sold red. Ned rig is truly a catching machine! But, the best colors I found is just standard black or my trusty one or two red eyes on black.
@wesleyhughes3633 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I like the look and that it is different. That said, elaztech baits float. Curious - do you think there are benefits to a floating Ned rig bait or that the fact that they float is overrated relative to getting bites?
@The_Bass_Stunters2 жыл бұрын
The fact that they float means no matter what style of jig head you use the elaztech bait will stand up on its weight end giving the bait a vertical presentation on bottom every time with out falling over like most soft plastics that do not float. That vertical presentation on bottom is extremely effective!!
