Living full-time in my rolling tiny home has been the best decision of my life. Off-Grid living offers a peace and connection to life that you just can't explain. When i first started van life i build a stealth camper van with the mindset the you had to live a stealth van life and i soon discovered that you can just live the city van life and boondock in the countryside and as long as you are respectful of the backcountry and cities you live in. Stealth van life in not necessary. Be proud of the life you choose to live, Share this van life journey with everyone. Remember Tiny Homes and The whole tiny house lifestyle is very popular and #vanlife is no different. When you don't hide it people will come say hi and ask you questions. The world is more curious than hateful. Well......Welcome to my everyday van life adventures. My name is Chrome Valdez and i travel full-time with Cruz the bulldog. Stay weird everyone and thank you for being here.

The biggest fear when I started van life was being bothered or being asked to leave. But like this guy says don’t over think it. I have hardly ever been asked to leave and even rarer was it the cops who asked. Park somewhere out of the way and you’ll be fine. Most often people only approach me if I’m sitting outside playing guitar. Then I get irritated because I suck at guitar and don’t wanna talk about it.

As a solo female traveler, I once drove through a town looking for a place to park for the night. First....I drove by some small office buildings -- and thought -- these are too dark and isolated, then I drove into a motel lot-- and realized that they were paying attention to who was in their lot and there were too many lights.. Finally I found the largest parking lot that I've ever seen. There was a hardware store on the left side of the lot and a McDonald's and 24 hr fitness gym on the right side. There were trucks on one edge and campers on the other. So.... I parked right in the middle of the giant lot! Great spot!

Unfortunately, I'm currently in a mentally/emotionally abusive relationship. Unfortunately due to finances, getting my own apartment isn't an option. I'm a 40 year old female and I'm scared to start this life but its the only option. Funny thing is, I've dreamt of the van life for years, it's something I've always wanted, just not like this. I agree wholeheartedly that going "stealth" has more to do with whether or not you look like your ACTIVELY living in the vehicle, and far less to do with whether your vehicle looks capable of being lived in. I've "stealthed" out of an RV for around 9 months by doing my best to "blend in" with my surroundings and never looking like anyone was actively inside it. I never got the dreaded "knock" from someone telling me to move along. I did my best to look like another parked vehicle that just happened to also be an RV, never stayed in on spot for more than 10 hours and rotated locations so that I never came back to the same spot within 2 weeks.

@ Trey, don't feel bad or alone. A lot of us are facing the reality of living the nomad life style due to the rising cost to live on our income or Homelessness which I feel Nomads are Not. Nomads have a roof over their heads and probably have more dollars left over per month than the average person working 60 hours a week to pay a $1700 -$2100 a month mortgage. Times are hard on most of us, regardless of people being honest about it or not. Keep your head up and don't let anyone or anything pull you down!! You will be alright. Keep moving forward:)

Hey Chrome! Just an FYI, you really need to get some paint on those primer spots on your van! Primer absorbs water and will cause your van to rust again way faster if you leave it unprotected without a top coat of regular paint....especially down around the wheel openings and rockers...Just sayin' Peace out Bro!

From a fellow nomad on the 2,000 miles of English waterways, we don't actually need to be stealthy as such as we can moor up for 14 days anywhere except where it says you can't. But, some towns are more welcoming than others and choosing your spot is just like you say, a gut feeling. I like rural but close to amenities like shops, water and toilet disposal.

I moved out of an apartment on the beach in Pacifica California and into an economical Toyota Sandtana Pop Up Mini Motor Home. I eventually lived in it for 15 years. Loved it. Unfortunately I had to sell it because it needed work every place I looked. Then I immediately went out and bought another one in better shape. The bed is in the back (no ladders to climb). Wish it was a five speed. Some people criticize RV living but until you have tried it…don’t knock it.

And it's something I've (too) taken/kept from my childhood as a young adult (I'm 19 now). Omg, I said the same thing!! Thank you!!! I had said to my BFF “I just don’t think there’s such a thing as stealth once you have windows or once your solars are visible. So it’s about not appearing as tho I’m in the van when I’m actually in the van. It’s about “blending in.” But I had no one to validate this. I put a partition between the cabin and cargo area (with NO cabin window blinds up so it looks empty, and just put black outs in the cargo area. Park in places where it looks like you could be visiting a friend or you’ve just gone into the store.”
