Sugar is not the devil! It's so important to remember that our cells runs exclusively on sugar. Carbohydrates from fruits, veggies and etc is so, so important for us and we should never cut down on it! White sugar and processed sugar on the other hand doesn't provide us with anything, so I would stay clear of products with added, white sugar :)

Oh my goodness! Do you know how bad artificial sugar is for you? Your body isn't designed to process artificial sugar, so it turns it into fat. Natural sugars are needed for your body to function, but within moderation (RDA)

But it is good for your body to eat fruit - so either eat the fruit (raw, as she says) or make a make a homemade smoothie. That IS good for your. And it's very quick and easy.

Very true... It's actually better to drink a fresh orange juice, containing around 200 cals rather than a zero calorie Diet Coke. The sugars in the orange juice can be broken down way easier than the artificial crap in the diet drink, which can cause all sorts of problems as our bodies don't know what to do with the chemicals that we can't even pronounce on the bottle!
@HanaAkiko16
@HanaAkiko16 9 жыл бұрын
Actually, diet coke and normal coke is just as bad for you. Diet coke is full of aspartame, which is a chemical that acts and sugar and tricks your body into treating it like sugar. Normal coke if full of artificial sugar! 35 grams in one can! That is like eating a pack candy! So all in all, both sodas are bad for your body

As a dietitian, I loved this video, except for what you said about grains and wheat, 'cause I don't agree with you. However, you're completely right about all these advertisments about "healthy things" in the market which are even worst than their original options!!! Also, for all of you complaining about her sentence "Sugar is devil", well, that's true: of course fruit is important in our diet but it's not a complete food, it doesn't have proteins nor all the vitamins we need to introduce with our diet! I'm kinda sick of hearing people pretending that the human kind can live only with fruit and veggies, that's WRONG! A little of everything is the key of a healthy diet. Love from Italy

Are you seriously calling yourself a dietician? I am really sorry but you need to read up about the facts! Fruit is the most nutritious food on earth apart from vegetables. And we have more than enough protein just in fruit (bananas, blueberries, etc. have a lot of protein). We hardly need any protein, people have this crazy idea that we need lots of protein. More than 10% protein-sourced calories WILL cause disease/illness since it creates a very acidic environment in the body. That's crazy what you said.

It's so hard to eat clean but I started experimenting with food when I noticed i'd gained a lot of weight and I was constantly bloated/tired/unwell. I kept a food diary and linked all the problems to wheat and sugar (along with things like coffee and fizzy drinks). I cut them all out and made everything from scratch and I lost 1 stone in 2 weeks (water retention and bloating). I felt so much better. I am not as strict now but I don't eat anything that contains wheat or gluten and I drink a lot of water to help flush toxins. I follow deliciously Ella and she helps so much with inspiration (who knew you could have sugar free brownies?). I love watching videos like this where a normal person (who's not a dietician) talks about eating healthy and being aware of what we are eating. Thanks Sammi!

hi sammi, i love you and your videos! Don't get me wrong, your diet is yours... but what you said doesn't appeal to me as facts. for example what you said about sugar, that juice is bad because it doesn't have fibre: meat and dairy don't have fibre either, it takes 10 times more to digest than fruit. And yes, your body runs on fructose and you need it to function properly, to think, to lighten up your mood! And you don't have to compensate that lack of energy through coffee like you do. Maybe watch @freeleethebananagirls videos, she is sooo lean! maybe that helps :/ not wanting to offend You ❤️ #highcarblowfat #rawtil4 #freeleethebananagirl

She's talking about totally processed juice. Or at least that's what I got. Those juices are bad for you, but actual 100% fruit juice is good obviously, or just juicing the fruits itself is good!
@mememeome
@mememeome 9 жыл бұрын
The processed juices don't have fibre and they have a very high amount of sugar. So the body doesn't break down the sugar to benefit the body, and the sugar only harms your body. This kind of sugar has no nutritional value. Sammi is completely spot on about the dangers of sugar. There have been many scientific lectures now saying that sugar is just about the worst for you. Do some research and educate yourself before you speak out.

I'm sorry I have to disagree with you. Sugar is not the devil. Glucose is not the devil. Our cells run on glucose and carbohydrates. Obviously you don't want processed sugar. What you really want is fruit, fructose, glucose so on. I agree that it's good to have fruit juice from the actual fruit to get fiber. But drinking fruit juice is not bad at all. Don't buy fruit juice, make freshly squeezed orange juice or smoothies using organic fruits and vegetables because that's what your body wants and need. You said that are body is designed to consume sugar and you're right. Then you said to restrict sugar and that's wrong. You need to restrict bad sugar in junk food anything processed is not going to be the best for your body that why you want fresh fruit to substitute for that sugar hunger because that's actually what you're body is craving. Please check out Freelee the Banana Girl to learn more about the benefits of eating unlimited amounts of GOOD SUGAR and being vegan.

You are incorrect.... If you're making a smoothie of only tons of fruit, you're going to spike your blood sugar. It's okay to eat whole fruits... But when you make smoothies you should put 1/2 fruits and 1/2 vegetables so you don't consume too much fructose and spike blood sugar. Our bodies were designed to eat whole fruit... Not drink a gallon of of it in a smoothie.

Drinking juice is actually important, there isn't any fiber in juice but it's important for the vitamins! The best is to juice your own fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice but remember to drink it in the next fifteen minutes you've made it or there won't be any vitamins C left :)

Hmm wroong. You did say a lot of things that are right, however we do need sugar. All your body cells work on sugar(glucose) and the best form of glucose is fructose, therefore you should eat a lot and aaa looot of fruits. This is why everyone craves sugar, because our body needs it. And it gives us energy, but only when it's unprocessed like fructose :D And forget about limiting portions. Never works. Just eat healthy foods like carbs(lot of healthy carbs like rice, corn pasta, potatoes) and fruits. Veggies are good too, but most of the protein and vitamins are hidden in fruits :) and these are all things that your body doesn't retain as fat, so doesn't matter how much you eat you won't get fat :P

My aunt works in an eating disorder unit, and on her advice I continue to drink one small glass of orange juice per day (usually with breakfast - if I don't have it then I'll skip it). I don't get the stuff with anything added, so although it is really sugary it's all fruit sugars. It helps get me going in the morning and means that I put less sugar on my porridge!

If you're a teenager, the thing that I found that really worked for me was using a program where you have a set amount of ' checks' to use, I think it's a Scottish slimmer /weight watcher thing not sure though, but its like a P.E.P for teenagers and all age groups really but I follow the teen one.. But the good thing about the, I guess ' diet, ' is that your not deprived of things you like, bread, pasta or whatever floats you're boat, all food items are written down in a wee book of how many checks they are, for example a Kit Kat would be 4 checks, a pink wather biscuit is 1.5 checks. whereas veggies are free from checks. . It is more of a moderation, having healthy balanced diet, if you're over weight. Something new I found was for things like sauces , spreads is to not wack a load on, but to use teaspoons/dessert spoons to use a moderate amount. x

Im reading a lot of comments below that sugar is good for you , though fruit contains fructose (which is better for you) .. I agree with sammi its still not the best .. high sugar intake can lead to candida flourishing .. which creates an overgrowth .. so if you have a high carb , high sugar intake deff try to reduce it.. and like the things that where mentioned its everywhere .. in your sauce , soups , dried fruit ! Hi, I find deliciously ella to be a great recipe resource. When I used to eat meat, I would cook it by poaching it or wrapping it in foil & cook it in the oven so maybe you could look up recipes for that? I love eating roast veggie salad- just combine roast vegetables with green leaves (baby spinach, lettuce, sautéed kale, whatever you like) and chuck in a handful of seeds or nuts. Where I live pumpkin seeds and cashews are cheap but that's regional I think. I love the Classic Green Monster by ohsheglows.com so if you have a blender that's worth checking out. If you eat dairy, you can make froyo at home by chopping up your favourite fruit & mixing it with yogurt in a Tupperware container or mason jar then freezing it. You drizzle a little honey on top, sprinkle it with chopped nuts or a little dark chocolate/ cacao for toppings. It's also worth googling overnight oats. When I can't afford chia, I buy flaxseed and sprinkle it though smoothies and fruit salads. Hope that helps! Best of luck!

It made me laugh that you said about no.2 "slow down for ten minutes and take the time to eat" because I was recently speaking to some French friends who say the minimum amount of time for a meal should be one hour. In France, lunch breaks are 2 hours so this is a bit more feasible and I think it is a bit of an exaggeration, but I agree with you, we certainly DO need to slow down more. Mindful eating is something which I've been practising lately and I've noticed such a change in my stress levels. By simply sitting down to really enjoy and savour my food, and slow down a bit I've started feeling much calmer overall and my tummy is happy too. Brilliant video, Sammi! *standing ovation* :) xxx

A few months ago I found out that I was gluten intolerant. Since finding this out I obviously cut gluten out of my diet completely and noticed a huge change with bloating etc. However I found that because I found it much more difficult to find quick and easy snacks that didn't contain gluten I started snacking more on sugary things. Though I was less bloated from not eating gluten I found that I was still constantly bloated, I over eat even though I am very slim and I crave sugar constantly. I have fairly bad skin (genetic but also from bad food) and get headaches, moodswings and am thirsty often. Although I exercise a lot (long distance running and daily horse riding) and eat healthily I am addicted to sugar! Earlier tonight I had a breakdown after eating a big mass of sugary snacks and this video has come at just the right time! I didn't realise that sugar could really be an addiction and what it can do and I feel so relieved now to see that it is at the heart of any of my problems! Thank you so much Sammi, you're a life saver!

I'm currently studying nutrition and food and what you're saying is on the right track! love your videos! what would really help you understand more about nutrition and your body is really looking at the biological and physiology aspect on it. For example what I've learnt from my physiology lecture is that insulin receptors becomes less sensitive ( becomes "bored" ) with familiar things and more sensitive with new things, which explains how some diets shows great results in the beginning and loose it effects at the end. This is why its important to eat a wide variety of fruits and veggies. I'm not some expert or anything but its just something good to be aware of that the biological aspect is equally important to understand a lot of things with our food, behaviours and overall wellness. again love the videos, your accent and everything :)

Namaste! I can certainly relate to the info in this vid because (many years ago) I had to change my eating habits (to omit refined sugars, bleached products and gluten) for health reasons. I'm not sure how it is in the UK, but the US is the worst when it comes to processed foods! Many Americans are (unfortunately) "raised" on crap foods, which are far more accessible than healthy foods. It usually isn't until later (in life) that many Americans get diagnosed with diseases that are directly related to poor dietary habits. It's so important to spread information regarding healthy eating. This is one of the reasons why I truly appreciate videos such as this. Thanks for sharing! 😊

I felt so bad when you showed the 'I quit sugar book' I reccomend you become more aware of what actually that book talks about, and always compare those informations with real facts, real science. My tips for you are to read 'The starch solution book' and watch some videos of some real and effective (cameron diaz is amazing but how can you actually prove that she stays like that long term, without calorie restriciton and crazy workouts) health advocate here on youtube Freelee the Banana Girl deviousdemi The health world is quite a mess.. everyone seems to have an opinion on that... only real science based on evidence and not on moneymakers can explain some of the things we always find ourselves struggling with. I've finally got my body to stop going into dizzy and nausea mode the second I'm hungry (omg it took FOREVER) and what helped a lot was drinking a lot of plain tea, by plain I mean no added anything, not boring tea. lol. But if I add anything at all, it's always a bit of honey to my mint tea. Also, Dasani recently came out with a water infuser thing without any sweeteners or additional chemicals, I've only tried the strawberry basil one but instantly fell in love!!! It's more basil-y than anything, but if you like water infusions, check this out.

Low sodium sparkling water is so good to help cut out sodas! With some ice cubes and fresh lemon or lime slices in it, really refreshing.

Hi Sammi, you'll probably find it interesting too to get to know how bad diary actually is and to look into it. I've discovered it for myself last year and try to cut out as much diary as I can now. My skin has improved so much! I have it occassionally now.

I'm really glad you talked about how bad refined sugar is! My boyfriend works in a lab that studies addiction and his supervisor has found that refined sugar can be addictive as cocaine! I think it's just really important to be aware of these things and also remember that there is a huge difference between refined sugar and natural sugar :)

I absolutely love watching your videos! I'm going to pick up "I Quit Sugar." What I like to do is blend my greens because, like most people, I don't really like veggies but blending (not juicing) helps me get all my servings in.

My best health advise is to always eat fruit to prevent getting super crazy hungry during lunch time wich makes me want to run to the cafeteria and buy cookies and other unhealthy snacks. It really helps and it makes me stay concentrated on my classes before lunch in school. My second advise is to become a vegetarian, because it makes me feel more energized and healthy in so many different ways (even though I am mainly vegetarian for animal rights). This is also the first winter without the strong acne I always used to get before becoming a vegetarian. And water is the best! For headaches, tiredness and hydration water is a saviour! I used to drink coca-cola EVERY DAY but I have now stopped because of the sugar it contains and I feel so much better, I barely drink sodas anymore and I am so proud of myself :D I love your videos Sammi

I quit sugar for 6 months last year but it was not for good reasons, and was the unhappiest I have ever been. Be mindful of what you eat, sure but don't let it consume your world. And don't define yourself by what you eat or don't eat. That just leads to really sad or even dangerous mindsets. X

An idea for a video i'd love to see from you would be to do a vlog style video of every meal you have for a whole week, I would find this sooo helpful! I would say that I am a similar size and shape to you before you lost some weight and find you so motivating, I'm really trying to live a healthier lifestyle at the moment and need all the tips I can get! x

Loved this video! I'm highly intolerant to wheat and gluten and it took me a while to find good substitutes, but now I feel so much better for it. I've never actually liked juice so I tend to just drink water or fruit teas. I do have an issue with eating quickly though, I have to tell myself to slow down all the time 🙈

This whole video made me think of a woman who told me I was uneducated and ignorant for eating a packet of crisps, and that I didn't understand what evil chemicals I was putting in my body. She told me that the gluten free cakes she was selling changed her life. I'm hoping to be a Biochemistry undergrad at Oxford next year, so I wanted to know if she could give me any examples of these evil chemicals and what they did. She told me about the "horrific chemical poisoning my body" sodium chloride. I had to point out to her that sodium chloride wasn't some synthetic chemical injected into all our food to destroy our cells, and that it's in fact table salt, most probably some of which was in her cakes. She didn't believe me :/

I liked this video Sammi! I try to drink herbal tea instead of squash, juice or fizzy drinks as it is something different to water and still feels like a bit of treat, and obviously some herbs have medicinal benefits or can help with your digestion etc. Added bonus is that even if you're buying expensive tea, it's probably more cost effective than fizzy or pre-made drinks. Am hoping there are no secret downsides to tea that I don't know about! xx

Love this vid Sammi! Please do a fitness styling video! Been really struggling to find some stylish yet cheap gym gear I think another good tip is to turn veggie and make sure to eat as much raw fruit and veg as possible. I ended up saving a lot of money through being vegetarian at uni, plus you can get just as much protein and nutrients through pulses and beans! xxx

Well done video! Personally, I know a lot of these tips (even though I have a couple of pounds too loose. Sugar addict here!) But I find so many people have the wrong information and so when KZfaq "stars" share correct information to girls (or boys) watching... well, it's like you did your little bit to help make the world more aware.

I think the most important thing about wanting to live a healthy and balanced life, which includes diet, is to not overthink it. I've personally experienced it -- if you overthink it, you constantly will think about food and wanting to eat. When it doesn't become such a big deal anymore, and you're just enjoying your meals, you tend to not binge or overeat. I think it's the overall idea of being at peace with yourself that then removes all the negativity and turmoil within you.

I think its hard these days to give out your opinion and tips without people getting on your back about it personally i think that people will just be and do what they want and food is such a personal thing it really bothers me when people tell you what or how to eat because thats what they do, so this vid was nice and relaxing! cutting out drinks like pop really helped me too glad that was a tip! Hi Sammi, I love your videos! Just a note from me- white carbs are certainly not the devil, they are just easier to digest ( and this can be a problem for people). White processed carbs like sliced white bread aren't great because of preservatives etc. but white carbs are easier on us to digest. Carbs are processed into our body as sugar and added sugars to white breads can't be good for us! White rice and dried pasta are certainly not bad carbs. Brown carbs make you feel fuller but can be difficult to digest. Everything in moderation. Nice video though :) xx

CAN I JUST talk about a pet peeve of mine? when people touch fruit!!!!! ahhh I was in the fruit market and there was this girl that kept opening the blueberries containers and squeezing them to "see if they were ripe" or whatever she was doing and I was cringing massive!! ugghhh I recently read the 'i quit sugar' book and I agree! it's a great educational book but I didn't follow her plan layout, however I have quit sugar for a while (except blueberries, kiwi fruit) Love this video! I study nutrition and I love how on point you were with alot of the points you made! Buckwheat is amazing indeed! been making pancakes and pasta with it, heaven~ Though I have to dispute the coconut water comment, I think there can be good "low fat" and "low sugar" people just need to be smart and read labels as you mentioned. So many times I see people just grab things and be like "this one's healthier" to their shopping partner and i'm cringing because i'm thinking "nooooooooo!!! it's got 28grams of sugar!"
