What a great idea to use the chair! Im a licensed cosmetologist and just donated my chair ...wish I would have thought of making a stand like you did! SO SMART!

Hey Mimzy, thank you for sharing your space. So I just bounced back from watching the video about your mother. I am truly sorry for your loss. I was hoping you could share her story of the newspaper article about her. I would love to read that article. You are so fortunate to have had such a gifted mother. Her legacy lives on in you. And I must say..its very generous of you to share your limited space with your MIL!

This series is so, so good! I now feel confident that I can reupholster my federal style sofa. It’s longer than your settee, I’ll be using a low nap velvet. So I think I’ll have to add a piece to either side if I want the nap running up and down. Thank you so very much! You are such a fabulous teacher.

Wow! Thank you so much Alice! A federal style sofa should be pretty straight forward. You can do it! Test your fabric to see if you can railroad it…it would way easier! Anyway, good luck!

Hi Mimzy! I love your channel. Thank you for all that you share. I find your videos to be very inspiring, especially because you share what doesn't work the way you planned as well as what does! About three years ago, I started doing automotive upholstery at my husband's company. Mostly I fix seats, sometimes center consoles and door panels. I've been sewing since I was a little girl, mostly clothes to start, and then about 30 years ago I tried a couple of slipcovers with mixed results. No videos then, just the Reader's Digest DIY books. Anyway, I ended up here because I thought I might be able to transfer my new automotive upholstery skills to furniture. I bought a couple of wing back chairs for a few dollars and have been working my way through the learning process. Books and videos help, and I have found, in the end, I just have to figure out a way--that sometimes there is no one right way. So I come back to your videos for encouragement! As for classes/courses, my sewing skills are pretty advanced...I am curious about running a workroom. I did use what I learned from you to reverse pin the inside arm and wing of my chairs (they had a weird pleated top with a button at the end of the arm that I couldn't replicate with the thicker fabric I chose), so, thank you for that. I hope this helps. Alyson

Thanks for this! If you can do automotive you can definitely do furniture. People ask me all the time about doing automotive upholstery. I would never dream of trying it.

I’m here to learn easier things like curtains and maybe a slipcover. My Ikea curtains need hemming lol. Great workroom space! Using your son’s barber chair for a furniture platform was brilliant. The framed newspaper featuring your mom is like she’s there with you. It’s a lovely tribute. I’ll watch your My Story video.

Oh I’m, so excited you are gearing your business towards classes … I searched Hi and Low in my area for educational classes for professional intended business in Drapery, Roman shade and upholstery making . I even attended Workroom Tech in North Carolina for a week for beginner drapery making. I love it but you don’t learn a lot in a week. Basically I’m self taught to an extent and of course uTube …. But I just love watching your channel and would love to hear about your classes . I just love fabric . Thank You …. Debbie

Debbie, I'm so happy to hear this! I was in your shoes not long ago. I can't wait to get some classes up and running! I'm trying to finish up some upholstery work before I can get some footage recorded. But I have my fabric and chair ready to go for my first course/class which will be chair upholstery. I've always wanted to go to workroom Tech. to brush up on some skills.

I am a hardcore DIY, but also super interested in having my own workroom and starting a side hustle! I worked with an interior designer all the way through collage and a lot of the work rooms she has been using for years are slowing down or retiring. I’d love to capitalize on the opening in the market!

It DOES seem like an open market! Every person I talk to says "wow, that's a dying art"...talking about sewing. If you decide to start your own workroom definitely niche down into one specific thing like slipcovers only, or roman shades only etc. etc.. You'll be able to master that thing, become ultra efficient at it, and that's when you can start to really make good money.

Hi! I love your channel! I'm trying to get brave enough to make a slipcover for a sofa that we have had for years, it has really good bones. I'm also wondering if I could learn to reapholster it. I'm not sure if I'd be able to start a business or not, for now I'm interested for my own diy needs.
