@@kiyana7995 I think we have different definitions of basic. To me basic is like a simple or average person. And what’s wrong with that? Not everyone has to/likes to go above and beyond with everything. I feel like the people who try to be the most quirky are actually the real basic people because they all copy other “quirky” people like Emma chamberlain and they try hard to be something they’re not.

That’s kinda true there are things where it isn’t bad but like it’s not the best thing ever, with so many people on earth most of us are gonna land on average lol. And it’s not bad depending on your personality and style there will be at least someone who might think you’re attractive
@prettygirl6994

It’s true average isn’t bad per say. But I think it’s sometimes they way people use it especially when comparing people. For example: “Ariana Grande is an amazing vocalist but Victoria Justice is an average vocalist.” That doesn’t sound like a compliment at all. Maybe that’s why so many people associate average with “bad”.

@HB-zg9en

@@no.reply_ THIS. I’m Black-Canadian and I feel that the current spread of American culture is literally like a new form of American Imperialism, this time it’s just through the spread of their own culture and beliefs, which then suppresses and overpowers the original countries’/communities culture. This specifically bothers me when it comes to english speaking Americans being surprised when other people around the globe adopt American speaking patterns, specifically AAVE, despite knowing full well that American culture, esp AA culture by proxy, has literally been spread around the world, usually without consent and quite subversively. Don’t get me wrong, ppl definitely need to stop appropriating Black culture, but Americans of all races need to understand that American culture and mannerisms literally dominate the lives of SO MANY PEOPLE that live outside the States. This has also done a BIT (not a ton imo) of damage to the overall image of the black community in terms of grouping us into one conglomerate based on Black American culture, totally disregarding the cultures and histories of Black people/people of African descent in the Caribbean, Africa, Europe… etc. This then makes Black people in other parts of the world seem “less Black” bc they don’t conform or match people’s expectations of what a Black person is (which is largely based on Black American culture). Ofc, you should never generalize a whole group of people, but this is even a problem within the Black community and it just sucks.

I agree, most times when people say black culture they mean African American culture. And growing up in a Ghanaian household I feel more connected to Ghanaian culture than American culture so it sounds very ignorant when ppl assume that two black people from different parts of the world (example: a Ghanaian and an Ethiopian) automatically share the same culture bc they're the same race..

I don't know if this is just cuz I'm African and if this is a thing anywhere else but family members should stop telling young girls that they're expected to get married either directly or indirectly. I grew up with this and I'm 17 now and it infuriates me. It's always comments like 'is that how you're gonna be when you're married?" Or "if you keep that up you won't get married". Like who told you I wanna get married? And it's not just kids, they do it to freaking adults. They literally judge other adults for being single at a certain age. It's none of your business if someone is single by choice or circumstance. As a girl it just gets annoying when all your Nigerian aunties just gather to judge that one aunty that is still single at 30. Marriage is a choice not a requirement.

Unpopular opinion: (as a person who used to watch anime when it was considered “nerdy” and stopped watching years ago) Anime is no longer nerdy anymore. It’s a highly trendy thing to be a part of nowadays. Another thing that I noticed is that some people who do watch it will make it their life’s goal to let everyone know they’re a weeb, or loves it, when spongebob is also a very well known series and no one would care if I screamed to the top of my lungs that I’m a huge fan (I’m not). Maybe it’s bc in my experience, i find it hard to be a fan of anything. I just see music artists as regular ppl and would rarely check out their work, same as tv shows or movie actors. I just hate it when they make it seem like that’s their whole personality. It’s one thing to like it but some people really take it to a whole other level. Edit: not saying you can’t be a hardcore fan, I’m not one to police others and what they do with their lives, I just find it annoying to see it everywhere when I’m not even in anime communities.

@coffee cats True. Idk what it is about simply watching something that made some people think they had the green light to attack others for it. For underrepresentation of Asians: that would be a hard yes. We see SOME successful Asians but it's from such a narrow part of the community--today's most popular Asian creators on social media, for instance, aren't even at the top and those who are mostly are comprised of members either from East Asian communities or the biracial/mixed communities with few exceptions (i.e. Ryan Higa, Michelle Phan, Lilly Singh, and CarryMinati). As for Hollywood, I think that the industry has already gathered a pool of "safe" Asian actors they can pick from over and over again for diversity/tokenism (I think of Henry Golding and Awkwafina, for instance). Every Asian-centered film also feeds into stereotypes--Fresh off the Boat, Crazy Rich Asians, and now Snake Eyes and Shang-Chi. I don't have an issue with this entirely because many are adaptations of real books or comics, but they are still red flags where the Asian representation we do see won't depict Asian actors or creators in the same settings we would find any white person in.

Just my opinion: I am sick of every girl I know having to go through a phase of insecurity where they don’t think they are beautiful enough. Society’s standards are bullshit, and it’s torture watching my little sisters become insecure about their face and body because of tiktok and Instagram. I went through the same thing, but seeing them suffer is worse in a way.

honestly we should have body neutrality instead of body positivity. I feel like with body positivity people will always go for the Instagram model body type while other body types are overshadowed by it. body neutrality is honestly a way better way to just accept everyone for how their body is

Honestly it’s only getting worse. I was pretty self conscious in school and insecure as well, but when I look at my little sister now in her teenage years, I can’t help but think how much better off i was because i didn’t have tik tok or instagram (pretty big age gap between us)

@@citrusbutter7718 i agree you’re totally right. Girls are put on display while boys are told to hold everything in. They are both such unhealthy opposites… people just don’t see the boys’ stuggle as much BECAUSE it’s all held in. 7:06 speaking of being skinny theirs a trend going around on KZfaq and TikTok trying to determine if something is a outfit or the person is simply skinny . I don't like it . It's low-key body shaming . When ever you call out these people their excuse is always "y'all are to sensitive . I'm not body shaming I'm just trying show guys what she's wearing is basic and people should stop saying she's a icon " Okay why don't focus your attention on the people who are saying such thing instead of dragging the skinny person for something they most probably can't control

The logic behind those videos is so stupid. So if the putfit doesn't look good on everyone it's not fashion? People need to accept that certain things look better on certain body types. If we're going to go by their logic, 80% of the fashion outfits girls like Zendaya, Bella, Gigi, Naomi, Rihanna etc. wore are not fashion bc vast majority of people can not pull them off. And they only do it to girls, never guys.

Im so interested in which kpop groups yall be looking at cause yall got me feeling like im not a kpop fan (in a good way) i aint never tried to seek out a group being problematic or showing the vybe of being colorist. Imo its kinda dumb to not enjoy a certain type of music becuase the country the artist is from is PROBLEMATIC or that the artist's fans are problematic Like?? Why?? as long as the artist is not promoting something terrible, get into their music. we nearly never did this for the western industry (who also has the same problems but just are succesful in hiding it) BUT the line is crossed when it comes to the kpop industry?

@@keychains5806 obviously, you'll be left with nothing to listen to if you completely separate the music from the musician. pretty much every celebrity is problematic. however, it's perfectly understandable for someone to reject the kpop industry because the labels AND the idols are sometimes racist and colorist. not to mention many idols, primarily female are bullied into getting plastic surgery and forced to starve themselves. the kpop industry crosses many lines on top of the racism/colorism.

I won't say you're not valid if you DONT get into kpop just because of a few problematic idols BUT it just completely disregards the kpop idols who arent problematic and just want to make music. Its just hard to empathize with that choice. Like i dont see yall not listening to frank ocean, meghan thee stallion, or tinashe (all non problematic western artists) just cause of people like dababy, azealia banks or any other problematic person... or their country. We all still pick and choose so why cant we pick and choose for kpop? Thats what i mean.

I feel like you are talking about spoiled children....so sure. The issue is, is that kid really being a spo!led bra:t? I think this can be a very privileged opinion and it’s unfortunately a common one. Society looks down on you if you don’t get along with your family and decide to cut them off/distance yourself. Some are still too young to escape the toxic family they were raised in and have to endure years of abus€. Abus€ isn’t just physical. It can be harder to see, it can be quiet and cruel. Having a family you can rely on and that supports you is a privilege. Family doesn’t get a special pass to mistreat you. No one has to respect a family that mistreats them.

Even if they weren't born with it and got surgery done it's still kinda not okay to hate. plastic surgery ain't even a bad thing, atleast not as bad as people make it seem. The person also probably got it done for a reason, maybe they were insecure about it so they got plastic surgery because they wanna feel more confident in themselves. Reasoning to this is because of the "blackpink are lazy" thing, just because they don't make many songs doesn't mean they're lazy, in my opinion of course. As a person who loves Zayn's music, probably one of my favourite artists, I understand where you're coming from. His label definitely sucks and he doesn't promote his music thar much. The reason behind that is that he has really bad anxiety and the racism/hate he gets till today for being South Asian+ leaving one direction it's disgusting. I get what you're trying to say but I guess he's happy with what he's doing and doesn't really care about charts and stuff. But if he and his label promoted his music he'd definitely stand out especially with his vocals ( his vocals are no joke literally ) he has so much potential to reach out to a wider audience like Harry has. Little mix is also under the same label and they do NOTHING for them too.
