Outstanding repair =D You quickly worked out and fixed that one!!! One thing to point out - those MLCC capacitors are prone to damage from shock (ie. dropping the controller), and they can short as you've seen numerous times. They are also sensitive to heat - so when soldering / swapping over etc, use as little heat as you can for short period of time. Technically those uncontrollable tweezers might not be the best thing to use! But it turned out fine =D

Well done Vince ! I knew you would be able to fix my controller. By the way thats controller is standard. I brought it with the Xbox in 2015 brand new. The black and white is a nice 2 tone but unfortunately is want me who thought of that. Glade you like it. As you will see from analogue stick shafts, it's had ALOT of hours on it. Got it when I was 15 and I'm now 21 ;D

15:15 vince that is very common to experience with xbox one controllers if they are used with cable. i have about 6 controllers and all of them are doing it. i think the usb port is becoming more loose and loose from the inside over time and cable is making bad connection with the board if u wiggle the cable little bit. i love ur videos btw. i think i watched every single one of trying to fix videos....hahah.."keep up the great work" !!! ur videos always cheer me up!

I have a controller that won’t sync, only works wired, and every time you wire it it needs the same update over and over. Tried hard reset, unplugging, nothing seems to work. Can’t find anything on the net apart from one post asking the same question, but no replies :( can any one help/any ideas? Thank you

I had something very similar happen to one of these a couple years ago. It stopped working over USB, and got really hot when plugged in. Never tried it with batteries. It was an old one that didn't support Bluetooth so I just got a newer model one with the rechargeable battery. But I've still got it in my closet, I may dig it out and do a teardown and check out that capacitor.

I have an elite controller that will not power on with the button but works fine after it the mini USB is plugged in. it is a pain in the ass not being able to use the xbox button to initially turn on the controller. would you have happened to run into a situation like that. it seems like kit would be a driver issue but, I have been unable to have any luck with anyone that has had the same problem. thank you again.

Nice tutorial, I have a one s controller that is experiencing problems with power. Model: 1708 Issue: Controller wont power on wirelessly, but powers on with USB cord attached. Wireless Activation can be achived with a USB starting, then remove the USB cord.

Hi I've got an issue with my Xbox one controller I tried testing the capacitor that had failed in the video, but the capacitor was in perfect condition. I kept testing all the capacitors none seem to be faulty, so I connected the controller to a wall adapter and began to touch the transistor that is in the upper center portion of power board and the led lit up but the minute I removed my finger it the light powered of, and it would power on when I touched the right side of the PCB. So I'm very lost I'm wondering if you could possibly help me or should I just buy a new controller

I have an x box controller model 1708 that has a similar problem. It only works when it's plugged into a phone charger. Battery section isn't getting power. The controller works perfectly except for not connected to the battery section. I've been trying to figure this out for over a year. This is the first video I've seen that explains the board. I sure do wish I could fix it so I can play games with my kids again.

If I use the charging pack, it stopped wake-up/connect to the console( it works fine yesterday). However if I change to regular battery, it works fine. What could be the cause? Model is 1708 and another gen 1 Xbox one controller works fine with the same charging pack.

Had a similar problem where the vibrating motor wires that connect to the board was touching something else where it not suppose to be once i resoldered it with a shorter wire it worked ever since

I have this issue where when you plug xbox controller it wont work with cable unless a battery is connected and will disconnect the controller when the batteries get hot

my controller does a similar thing but underneath the A button starts to over heat until the A button is useless and doesnt work, but unplugging it for around 10-15 minutes it cools down and is useable again until it repeats itself.

mine has the same problem except mine was very easy to diagnose without any experience because the capacitor was GONE, literally melted off, the same size one but in an elite controller, it was C32 to be exact, in the same place on the controller but i beleive theres 2 right next to each other, the one that didnt break was C33 or at least i think so far as i havent tried to replace C32 yet, this short happened on my previous original model xbox controller too

I had one like this, it turned out to be a tiny buck converter that was shorting. I'm just saying this as I'm guessing it might be the same... Now to watch the video.

Opened up a brand new xbox series s today. Brand new controller that came with it got incredibly hot. Took cover off and popped battery out and they were scorching HOT. Can't believe microsoft hasn't been sued for this yet

Those capacitors usually fail due to mechanical damage/drops/etc. They're really fragile and easy to damage!

Probably just a bypass capactior. Very common fault amongst all electronics. You might find it would work without it.

These caps are very prone to mechanical stress, failure mode from that is shorting out.

Yeah battery's are hot cuz u should not use USB with non rechargeable battery's otherwise battery's are likely to get hot and burst into flames.

i always find these things broken , but they always have the same part that is broken, the magnet holder for the L R analog triggers but nobody sells them ,i think i found one seller one time but it was in UK and did not ship to US and besides that it was like $26 UK so not even worth it , i can find just about every other part though except that one part ,i wonder if there is a way to fix it also hinge pins seem to not want to budge anyways so replacement would be difficult is not impossible

What you might want to do is turn your xbox one and unplug your xbox one off for 20 to 30 seconds and press the home button on that controller and it should work fine my Xbox one controller was doing the same thing and I turned off my Xbox one and I unplugged it for 20 or 30 sec and I plugged in my Xbox one and the controller works fine
