Sloane really exposed Oska's weaknesses in her game during this match. I also think Naomi got a little impatient in the longer rallies which you cannot do against Sloane when she is playing well.

she exposed her terrible net game : no swinging volleys to close off points at the net and sloane is a speed demon. some of those points weren't even naomi's fault per se. most ppl on tour wouldn't have been able to get to half these shots
@user-mk9hv8sl5p5 жыл бұрын
@17sunnyhour - not really. naomi played classic first strike tennis against williams. the rallies were on average 3-4 shots. that's not patience: that was beating williams at her own game. completely different situation here.

Osaka's weakness is her double handed backhand. She places it to far away from the line which makes it very easy to return and gain control of the game. She also is shaky on her volleys. Her forehand is excellent though. That backhand is very cringe though. She could have won the match if she placed her backhands closer to the line not near the center of the court for an easy return.

This match is the product of the Williams sisters brought to the game. Keep your eye on one player in some of those long points. The acceleration on Osaka's backhand and Sloane's forehand is insane. Sloane is crazy fast, and her forehand can really be deadly. What's crazy is I think she can be a lot more agressive, and energy proficient. For instance, that point she won with slice forehand drop shot on the run, she could have hit a few agressive forehands so she wouldn't even be in that position to have to make lower percentage shot. If she can find a balance of aggression, and defense when needed, she'll be so much better. She has enough margin on the forehand and backhand.

There's no reason to HATE anyone because all your doing is HATING yourself. It's a poisonous emotion that rots within you. Naomi is playing in a highly competitive sport on the professional circuit and you have ppl rooting against you, making derogatory comments and pressure to stand up for yourself, yes you can get sideways emotionally. Osaka should have get the on court coaching in 3rd set. It will be interesting to see how she respond to the coaching advice.

I agree with your comments. I couldn't believe she didn't challenge. That's what challenge system is for... human error, might as well make use of it. I'm also surprised Naomi Osaka didn't bring her coach down to help her regain her composure in the third set. I was glad to see her in good spirits after the match in post game interview.

I like both, but I don't think the challenge would've done much. I feel Slone was on her game this match and playing extremely well.

Two lovely girls. Watching these two could make tennis as a spectacle interesting.

Sloan played like a wise wolf. She was calculating every stroke against Naomi! I was a little surprised at how good Sloane actually is! Last time i saw her was when she lost to Serena Williams. I also remember when she played Venus Williams and was new on the scene. She has come along way since then! Naomi is very young and got impatient as Sloane mixed up the tempo. Venus was always good at that, then Serena picked up on it.

Tennis players have to adjust to different courts. Idk why people are saying the courts need to be changed. Clearly, people are winning on them with great shots. If it’s a slow court, then it’s a slow court.

Neeraj Pillai since USOPEN OSAKA did'nt win any tournement,she's just a shadow for herself,why?she's like Osparenco or someone won a GrandSlam and no more....

Ban Hoang It’s only been the like 2 months. Osaka did win a tournament earlier this year. I expect to see good tennis in her future.

This would be a great rivalry if they would both stay consistent. Similar styles, Sloane just got better wheels and more experience. On another note, as a naturally curly girl, I SO want to cut Osaka's stringy damaged ends for her 😭

rachray83 Similar style?
@haveboldfaith5 жыл бұрын
I’ve been trying for some time to figure out a nice way to say that about her ends. Hadn’t come up with anything, so I just kept my mouth shut. However, I fully agree!!
@pyro98185 жыл бұрын
rachray83 There’s nothing similar about their games. Stephens is more of a defensive counter puncher who will keep the rally until her opponent makes a mistake or she will use her opponent’s pace to hit like sharp angles. She’ll also hit a booming forehand every once in awhile. Osaka is mostly an aggressive baseliner who likes to outhit and overpower her opponents with her big backhand/forehand and serve. They are the polar opposite when it comes to style. The only similarities between them is they are both have some African blood. Ain’t much other than that.

Naomi just didn’t have her A game today. Since winning the US Open so many people expect her to win every match. I hope Osaka hasn’t tweaked her back again.

I don't know. I think Naomi actually did ok. Sloane just managed to get a lot of balls back that on other courts would've been unreturnable. Sloane kept making Naomi hit one more ball, and Naomi kept getting frustrated and over-hit. Tough match for both women... I'm excited to see how the rest of the tournament plays out.
@thejenesisb54445 жыл бұрын
@@ricobhi I agree, on other courts nobody can return those. Good job on Sloane's end for adjusting. I hope Naomi adjust soon.
@baichui5 жыл бұрын
I wish Naomi can approach the net more often, especially after one big hitting, she should have charged forward instead of staying 3 feet behind baseline... but then Sloane is a tricky player herself, great reaction with great hands....

Niomi is a young and upcoming star, Sasha should not push her beyond expectations, she will get there. Being a true champion takes time and Sasha of all persons should know that because he was Serena's hitting partner.

the future of women's tennis! Junior French Open champion Coco Gauff (14) is coming as well. Serena will break the record next season for sure!!
