EXTREME PANTRY MAKEOVER ON A BUDGET! No-Bin Method for food storage + organization | HOUSE TO HOME
We recently sold our little starter home in the neighborhood and moved our family of five to our forever home and property.
There are so many features of this place that we have just fallen in love with but it’s definitely a bit of a fixer upper so we’ve spent the last 6 months renovating and updating certain areas that need it most. We’ve tackled big projects as well as smaller ones and today we’re working on giving our pantry room a much-needed makeover.
But it’s not all about looks! Our biggest priority for any space we update is functionality and practicality. We feel most at home in a space that functions for our busy family and works symbiotically with our plans for a more economical and sustainable household and that’s exactly what we’re focusing on for this renovation.
So join us as we tackle our pantry and take another step on this journey of taking this place from HOUSE TO HOME!

The conservative mentality when it comes to consumerism is such a refreshing and underrated mentality. I absolutely 100% believe that you must (re)use everything you have before you buy. And the whole buy bins for each category is ridiculous. So much plastic which people are waiting to toss only until the next trend comes up. Love that you just kept things simple and laid out. Lesser anxiety. Love your content Natalie.

Natalie...I absolutely love how you always talk about how grateful you are for the things you have and ability to do what you need to. Gratitude is such an unbelievable thing to share, as our economy has so much consumerism, advertising and "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality. Don't you feel like you have so much more when you recognize your blessings...big and small? I know I do! Thanks for a great video and sharing your positivity with us! 🥰

Very nicely done. As an older mom/grandma…who loves (and always has) organization….bravo! Some spaces are AOK to make Pinterest-worthy….others…are just for us to use functionally. I love that you let yourself be who you are and what works for your family. Again…bravo!

I love how you've organized the dry pantry too, but that extra fridge/freezer is *chef's kiss* exquisite. In my house we have a lot of freezer space, but not so much fridge space. You would be surprised the amount of things you wouldn't think of freezing that can indeed be frozen. Butter is one that seems to last forever frozen, so we stock up when it's on sale. We keep one stick on the counter, one box in the fridge, and the rest in the freezer. Similarly for shredded cheeses, we buy them in 5lb+ bags, separate them into 2-3cup bags, stick one of each flavor in the fridge and the rest in the freezer. It really is a blessing to have extra frozen pantry space.

You might want to put a curtain on the pantry window so the light is not hitting the food or other items but you can still open the window when you are in there

I did something very similar. I live in an apartment style condo... so storage space is minimal. I took the hall coat closet, which is right beside the kitchen... and turned it into a pantry with this style of shelving. I reused my "Adams Natural Peanut Butter" glass jars to store all my loose bulk foods... things like oatmeal, quinoa, shredded coconut, and cocoa. Now I also have room to store kitchen appliances, so my counters are not cluttered... and there is even room for a recycling station and vacuum storage. My life works so much better... lol!

I encourage you to up your staying power and LABEL your SHELVES!!! All that is necessary is general categories but SO helpful. That will keep your whole team (family) in the game as far as what goes where. And trust me seriously helps with the foggy mom brain as more time passes and you think..."where does this live?"

I loved this pantry makeover! It turned out how I would want my pantry to be. I prefer stuff stocked like a store instead of a bunch of cute bins. You can fit so much more. Bins are good if you have a lot of loose stuff but not needed for boxes and cans.

Your second fridge is your Costco fridge! Great idea! I personally have had to very strategically shop Costco because of the large quantities. I think a second fridge may be the only way to make the most of the deals there. Thanks for sharing your life in a humble, helpful & encouraging way.

Great video Natalie - thanks so much for sharing a realistic, achievable pantry system that is so much more about function and less about everything looking Pinterest/Insta perfect and coordinated. I have had big pantries, small pantries, even no pantry over the years, but we always make it work for us. We are so thankful to be able to afford to keep a fully stocked pantry and freezers. I was just talking to someone today about some difficult times we went through when our children (now young adults) were babies. We ate well on a very tight budget but there wasn’t much left in the kitty for stocking up. When the supermarkets here (Australia) were bare during covid hoarding and shortages, we never ran short of the things we needed and never had a need to panic buy. It was actually a blessing to be able to avoid the stores during those crazy days. I’m loving your renovation journey- we have been very slowly renovating/updating our whole house and hope to have it almost done by the end of this year. We don’t have much time for DIY so it’s been a matter of saving up for the major spaces like bathrooms, kitchen and laundry. I am so excited that we are finally about to replace all of our flooring - not so excited about having to move everything out so it can be done though!

There isn't a lot more things that gratifies than a well stocked pantry! Well, maybe when you have canned from your own garden and stocked that way! Cant wait to see your pantry with some of THAT! In the times we are living in with prices going up its such a good idea to stock up when you can! Looks great Natalie!

That LG is my favorite! We’ve had the white model for 15 years and I couldn’t be happier. The best part: Instead of a slide drawer door on the freezer, ours is a swing door with an interior sliding drawer on the bottom and fixed shelf on top. It’s so much easier to get to things and I find that I don’t have to keep the food items as ‘flat’ since I can open the door rather than it needing to slide. 😍

We moved not long ago to a larger house and our pantry is bigger here. So it totally makes sense to stock up and have your go-to items in stock in your pantry. But our last home was smaller and we really only had room for 1 or 2 of each item. So it wasn’t great for us to stock up because we couldn’t see what we had and wasted things. I love your new shelves and they totally maximize your space and make it so you can see everything. Pantry goals :-)

Whenever I get a full pantry after a run to Sam's (I go maybe every 3-4 months) I always feel overwhelmed with abundance. Last summer after picking up a bunch of snack type foods, I prayed there would be opportunity share it, specifically for any kids who might need it. We live an hour from the closes Sam's 90 from the nearest Costco, and 20-30 minutes from most grocery/Walmart. In rural Iowa we can have just about any kind of weather, so having a stock of food/goods is super important. Now that gas costs are rising, even more so.

I placed my potatoes in a burlap bag, then in a container away from any light or sunlight. To my surprise they have lasted a longer time than the usual days. You could always change the gray brackets for the white ones. For example, to the bottom shelf of the opposite side. I hope this helps you!

This is so inspiring!! Our pantry has needed a huge overhaul/ declutter for about 6-8 months 😬 I’ve been avoiding it, but after seeing this, I feel encouraged to tackle it tomorrow morning with vigor and determination. I may have to switch to a no-bin system. When we moved into this house 3 years ago, I got several $1 bins from the Dollar Tree (the bright hues were annoying, but oh well) and I have found that the bin system is so hard to keep inventory of what you have. I do love the can roller that I have, but there is so much in my pantry that needs to be purged and reorganized. And Hallelujah on the back-up inventory for emergencies and shopping in bulk to save money!! Doing that has been such a huge blessing for us. And for me to not stress about our grocery quantity when I need to take an impromptu meal to a family in need. 💛 I would love a second fridge. We bought a deep freezer about 6 years ago and it helped us so much to extend the life of food by freezing it, and buying frozen bulk at Costco that would have never fit in our standing freezer drawer. We’ve adopted much more of a “homesteader” lifestyle, only going to the grocery stores a couple times a month, so I plan all our meals and groceries for the month at a time. It helps when you already have basics on hand to use at any time! (Eg. Rice, spaghetti sauce, seasoning, etc)

one thing to consider if lumber prices come down again, these premade shelves with the track are adjustable and easy to take down and mount somewhere else wich can be a bit harder with selfmade shelfs also not having mitters makes it alot stronger the points whould be easier to break and a bonus is it makes reusing the shelves in other places easier with them just being strait

Natalie I commend you for your wonderful way of organizing your pantry. I LOVED that you did not use bins or baskets to arrange your items. Good job doing it your way and not what everyone else is doing,. Arlene

LOOKS AMAZING!!❤ If you notice your potatoes/ onions start sprouting, in your new corner, you could try to put them in a cardboard box or paper bag in your shelf that will likely work. I have a very large, newspaper lined wicker picnic basket, that I put paper bags in to sort potatoes. Has worked for years! Also have a few drawers, I put cups filled with cloves, and in each drawer I have apples, or onions, etc a folded paper bags over each. It helps absorb dampness, "" gasses" from ripening.. cloves helps keeps critters away!

Thank you so much for linking to my blog post on Home-Ec101. I wrote that post so long ago that I had forgotten all about it. Your video is excellent and I hope the pantry makeover serves your family well for a long time. With now six kids living at home, our current version of stocked up is... a lot. In 2007, I only had three kids.

Great pantry organization vlog! What a transformation! We also use long term food storage, not hoarding, which has been useful many times for family. Btw, loved hearing the children in the background playing. And Hailey, what a sweetheart! We've found LG and Kitchenaid to be our best appliances. And how wonderful that you got a price match on the LG!!! Looking forward to the complete kitchen reveal! 👀 Thanks for sharing! Have a blessed week!

Great project. It does require careful product rotation to avoid expired food. Love to have extra food to save trips to the store. Thanks for sharing.

Love this! I love watching your organization videos- especially the ones where you redo a space. It has helped me to rethink spaces in our house and try and use what we have first to see if it actually works! In our pantry we keep peanut butter, noodles, spaghetti sauce, cereal bars and the like things that we use daily or weekly for meals and snacks for the kiddos. #premierefam

You need to get a lazy Susan for the mason jars. Since they’re in the corner you’ll have to pull every single one out to get the one you want

❤️Thank you for this video…as much as clutter can create anxiety…not seeing what you have is up there with it too…this system provides order and to see everything visually makes a pantry flow easily…I mean we use them countless time a day! This lowered my anxiety just watching 😂🤗Plus loving the idea of using wasted space…to move your cleaning products 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 the fridge looks awesome and sooo helpful! 🙋🏻‍♀️🇬🇧💕jane

I am so beyond impressed of your skills. You are so inspiring and strong. I am always amazed on how comfortable you use power tools and build stuff. Also can you maybe share that coconut chicken receipe, you were planning? I would also love to see how you plan your meals and how you decide on purchases and things like that. Loved this video! 🤗
