At 1:06:13 Dusty starts to play with that Beanie Baby and gets so lost trying to get Aaron to play with him that he momentarily forgets he’s on a podcast. This level of professionalism is why I love this podcast

My wife collected beanie babies which are now worth absolutely nothing. Her older brother collected Pokemon cards in high school and just sold most of his collection during the pandemic for over 500k and bought a vacation home in Yellowstone. At one point he had a bidding war for one Charizard card between Justin Bieber and Post Malone.

Pokemon is cool when ur like 8 years old. Collecting toys is a sign of suspended adolescence and immaturity. I started collecting classic cars and motorcycles. You know, adult items, with practicality. Unless you are revving up your pikachu to get groceries from the store🤣🤦‍♂️

The Beanie Baby discussion gave me terrible flashbacks to the trauma of being 16 and working the drive-up window at McDonalds in the 90s. There were cars wrapped around the block constantly, with an endless stream of adults freaking out about getting certain Beanie Babies in their Happy Meals. It was the first time I realized that a large portion of the population is truly insane. :)

My husband and I attended The Office Convention in Scranton in 2007. We made our own costumes, my husband’s was a huge, paper mache Dwight Bobblehead. We returned to Scranton for The Office Wrap Party in 2013, and once again he wore the bobblehead. He promised that he would get rid of it after the convention, but then Rainn Wilson autographed it. Still to this day, there’s a large, freaky paper mache head in my son’s closet that we joke is his inheritance.

When Nate said the silver spoon was perfect for Antique Roadhouse, I got this sudden craving for steak and I couldn't figure out why. I concluded it's probably because he meant Antique Roadshow while I was subconsciously thinking about a tasty trip to Texas Roadhouse.

When I worked for an experiential marketing company, our booth was almost always set up across from the State Lottery booth at all the events. We would all go in together and get a couple $1 scratchers to kill time during slow periods. We agreed to use the winnings of the scratchers to buy more lottery tickets and at the end of the day, we would split the winnings. Most days we would all profit $30 or $40 and it was innocent fun. One day while we were playing the $1 scratchers, we hit the jackpot of $6,000. As the initial excitement wore off, panic set in because we knew wouldn't be able to quietly collect our winnings; someone was going to have to claim the ticket and get their photo taken with the big check. We were all wearing company clothing and didn't want to get in trouble, so my coworker who scratched the winning ticket had to go home and change so she could get her photo taken. At the end of the day, the government took 40% off the top and we split the remaining $3,600 three ways. However, my coworker who "won" the jackpot was going to get wrecked in taxes that year when it bumped her into a higher tax bracket, so we each gave her a bigger cut to help with that. I used my third of the winnings to help pay for my honeymoon and am left with a fun story to tell!

Winning prizes from sodas: I have great memories of the “Twist A Pepper” promo campaign Dr. Pepper used to boost sales. On grocery shopping days with my mom I always asked for a Dr. Pepper so I could twist off the cap and look under it to see if I won another Dr. Pepper. Imagine 11 year old me living my best life on the day I redeemed my winning soda cap for a free Dr. Pepper then twisted the cap off of the free one to find yet another winning cap. 🤯😎👏🏼😆

I can't wait for the new sitcom where Dusty gets into a fight with a garbage truck driver (who looks like Dusty). After the fight is broken up by the cops, Dusty gets thrown into the garbage truck and the driver is told to go back inside Dusty's house. Dusty spends each episode learning the ropes as a garbage truck driver and trying to get his house back. Look for Greg Garcia's, "Dust to Dust" staring Dusty Slay this fall on NBC.

On the topic of trains I'm a locomotive engineer/conductor for both passenger and frieght, and I can say trains are still a very important part of the economy. They haul everything from ups trains to corn syrup and cocoa beans for hershey. They just recently were gonna strike and was stopped by the presidential administration because of how much it would hurt the economy. So yes trains are important, also a caboose was taken away once crews got smaller and radios and signal systems were put into place on tracks. Love the show keep it up

Hey guys. Long time fan of Nate and the podcast. I’m a game warden and currently live up north but I’m from Arkansas originally and to be fair, I have a thick southern accent. I’ve started saying “Hello Folks” as I make my approaches to check boaters since it fits my accent anyway, and this past week, I finally got a “let’s go folks” in response. Just to make sure they were legit, I threw out a “hey bear” and sure enough, I met another folk in the wild. Keep up the good work. Timely episode for me as just this week I sold my Pokemon card collection for $1,000. I collected the cards when I was 8 or 9 when Pokemon hit the scene in the states around 23 years ago. I valued my collection with some online resources to be about $900 and got several offers by posting it on Facebook marketplace. I'm now wondering if I could have got more out of it, but you can't shake a stick at $1,000 for something I probably spent $50-$100 on when I was 9.

Listening to Aaron and Nate so confidently discuss the museum art world with literally no knowledge of the topic had me laughing uncontrollably! When donating art to museums (from my understanding) the philanthropist gives it to the museum as a gift to own and can’t go pick up the art anytime they want while the museum takes care of it. Many billionaires buy art and hold onto it for a while, then when it accrues millions more in value they donate it to a museum and use the donation that is now worth tremendously more in value as a tax write off. It’s way for them to pay less in taxes while spending a fraction of what they would need to on taxes. Love the show! Great seeing you in Seattle again, Nate! Dusty, we want you back sometime despite your confrontation with the club owner here.

Failing to realize it’s not free if you have to make a purchase to get it. Lol

I have some plastic straws from those drink bottles in my spoon drawer. When I used one once I got a mouthful of pincher bug. So I am a firm believer in checking those straws.

If celebrities are worried about their autographs being sold as memorabilia, they could always insist on personalizing it for the autograph seeker. « What’s your name? ». The guy panics, thinks of a common name and says « John ». « What’s your last name? ». The guy panics and says « Smith ». The guy could still resell it, but the pool of potential customers is really limited.

Hey Y’all, Nate mentioned saving 9/11 newspapers. I saved a few also and I’m so glad I did bc I recently learned that footage, photos, etc. have been edited A LOT to remove the most graphic and disturbing images, such as people falling, etc. It’s understandable and certainly not healthy to view such things repeatedly, but it’s interesting to note how easily “history can be edited” today. For similar reasons, we’re keeping all of our Disney movie DVDs and a little DVD player in storage. Now with Disney+, some movies have already been “tweaked” and this practice is bound to continue.. As Dusty would say, “you know what I mean?” Hope this comment isn’t too “Debby Downer”… love y’all!

Aaron... the star on the tootsie pop wrapper wasn't a contest, it was a real thing. There was an Indian with a bow shooting a star on a lot of wrappers. If you found the star you could turn in the wrapper for another tootsie pop. I did it all the time!

I’m a cop in a large city in the Midwest. I responded to a call about a man hearing his hotel neighbors spying on him. When I got there the caller said he hadn’t slept in 2-3 days because he was sure his hotel neighbors were spying and plotting to kill and rob him because of a large insurance payment he received. He told me that he had just received a $15,000 check from his dad’s life insurance policy, and that he had cashed the check and had about $13,000 in CASH on him in a backpack. He begged us to take the money from him to keep it safe from his hotel neighbors. I declined to do take the money (knowing it would be a real hassle for us to take the money and for him to get the money back), and convinced him to go sleep at his friends house for the night.

I have the Billy Ripken Error Card with the obscenity on the bat. I also had the one with the black box but I remember the one with the white box was always the one that everyone said was worth the most. Not sure why.

There was a guy in pennsylvania that dubbed himself the "Lottery Lawyer" who for decades was sought after by people who won the lottery. Recently he was caught skimming from those winners and has been disbarred. So you cant even trust a lawyer that builds a practice around the lottery. Also "Jerry and Marge Go Large " is the lottery movie that Brian Cranston is in. It can be watched on Paramount or Amazon Prime.
