What was the first book ever written? How many books are there in the entire world? What is the best selling book of all time? These are just some of the questions the guys try to answer this week as they discuss books. Brian decided to sit this one out because he knew all the answers so Nate and Aaron are joined by fellow comedian Justin Smith.

As a disabled combat vet with deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, I think I speak for all service members when I thank Nate for not joining. Not because I don’t think you’d be a good Soldier, but we don’t necessarily need someone wondering how rain and clouds work in the middle of a hostile situation. We DO however need your personality and humor more as an outlet after tough situations. Thank you for years of entertainment and a way to let go of some of the darkness so many of us deal with. And for the record, I’d gladly serve alongside you. Keep up the awesome work!

The look on Nate's face after he asked Aaron "Why don't they just say 100%?" and Aaron explained that if "They get it wrong, they can be like we told you we weren't 100%" was absolutely priceless. Nate paused, looks up as if he is trying to process the information, and then just shakes his head, accepting the fact he still can't make sense of it.

An easy way I learned to make your smile look more genuine in pictures is the wrinkles beside your eyes. If you can’t see the wrinkles it looks fake or forced, if you can see the wrinkles it looks more like you’re ACTUALLY happy to be there. Simple but it works… if you have normal sized eyes, if there as big as Nate’s you might have to do some experimenting. Love the show as always! Btw I’m shocked that y’all haven’t used “That’s All Folks!” at the end of an episode yet, y’all definitely give off Looney Tunes vibes.

The last book I read was when I was 9, called “a land remembered.” So, thinking now that I’m supposedly an adult I should probably try to read another book. For about 12 years now, I’ve been trying to read “the old man and the sea.” I started real good and got through a whole chapter while on vacation. And then..never went back to it again. Every time we go away on a trip or camping, my wife just looks at me and says, “are you bringing ‘the book?’” Confidently, I always reply with “of course,” and yet, still haven’t gotten past the first chapter. the more words they put to describe the scene the more I wish they had just put pictures. What I’m saying is, I’m more of a children’s book kind of reader. My book reading glory days are over, and I’m ok with that.

Our family used to attend an annual pancake dinner fundraiser every fall. Being very familiar with the event and knowing they wouldn’t have any we took our own jar of peanut butter one year to top our pancakes. Imagine our family sitting and eating when a stranger stepped into our space and promptly swiped our jar of peanut butter. He sat next to us and narrated as he began slathering his short stack with our personal peanut butter. “This is how you do it.” It is now clear that we shared peanut butter with Justin Smith. Thanks for clearing this up. You’re welcome, buddy.

The pope story reminds me of a funny thing that happened at a friend's wedding. He and his now wife are both Catholic, so the wedding was a full mass service at a Catholic church, as they go. During the communion portion, the best man, not Catholic himself, made the mistake of reaching out to take the eucharist, despite having seen the few people who went before him get handed one by the priest. The priest immediately asks if he's Catholic, and upon confirming he wasn't, just gave him a generic blessing. Only one of the wedding party actually was Catholic, so the priest ended up skipping most of us before moving on to the congregation. I don't know which I find more amazing, him not knowing at all how Catholic communion works, or the fact that he didn't let that stop him from trying to get at the wafers anyway

@1:55:46 I love that Nate razzes Aaron that he “can’t read it right” while Nate himself reads Good Morning Kuya as Good Morning Korea and then he just runs with it - twice mentioning Korea as well as how the Filipinos should be speaking Korean. Also, after the revelation that Brian was the Waffle Maker Assassin (which lets be honest: most of us already knew), I propose his name be changed from Breakfast Bates to Continental Breakfast Bates. Love you folks! Keep up the great comedy!

Hey Better Business Bureau I need to talk with y’all for a sec. I recently found Nateland and I’ve been listening to the old episodes to catch-up. I just finished the “Fast-Food” episode and I don’t fancy myself a McDonald’s fan but I thought I would give it a chance after hearing Nate say “McDonald’s is so good.” I ordered a filet-o-fish and let me say I’ve seen hog farmers take more care with food preparation than the crew at McDonald’s took with my sandwich. The cheese was crusty on the corners and was only on half the sandwich. The quarter size spread of tarter sauce on the northwest corner of the sandwich gave some much needed moisture to that bite. Overall it was a thumbs down. Needless to say I will not be putting McDonald’s back into the rotation….Anyways, love the show and keep up the good work!

I was re listening to episode 8 about marriage. I heard you talking about getting a urinal in your house and how awesome that would be. My father, for his 88th birthday, got a urinal installed as a gift from my mom. It was his most prized possession. And I got to say it was a game changer at the Barker household. When my parents passed and when their house was being torn down there were several of us that were interested in inheriting the urinal. However it got destroyed before we could claim it. It was fantastic!

What a fun episode. Aaron’s book reminded me of the summer between my son’s 5th and 6th grade years when we found a book he had written for a class project. The project was to write a book titled “The Story of My Life.” My favorite chapter is quoted verbatim below: “The Fat Burglar” When I was at age two, I was mad Christmas existed. I guess I didn’t understand Christmas. I was wondering why everyone was happy about a super fat burglar breaking into all the houses in the world.

Probably at least six or seven years ago Amazon sent us the wrong item which happened to be a two sided bowl. My wife and I were furious at the time and they turned around and sent us the right thing and told us to just keep the bolts. For the longest time we did nothing with the bowls and then finally started using it for the kids to separate their foods or for cereal and realized it wasn’t a mistake but a blessing. We use those bowls all the time now.

The Teddy Roosevelt section is pure gold. I love that Aaron says Maria can read 80,000 words per minute and a 3-page 3000+ word college level essay in 3.5 seconds, yet somehow the less believable thing is Theodore Roosevelt reading between 1 and 3 books per day. Also, the telephone was invented in 1876, with the first one in the White House coming in 1877, so Teddy definitely had a phone and was probably taking calls during the day

Just came here to leave review. I'm actually currently only on episode "Laws". I started late, so I figured I'd just start from the beginning, 2020, and I'm glad I did. The running jokes are better when you hear where they started from, like "hello folks" and Brian's many names. Although I'm only 13 or 14 in I love how Nate dislikes celebrities or anyone else thinking they are better than other folks. I'm from East TN and it's so strange why Nate would cheer on a terrible Vandy team when our awesome Vols are just 3 or 4 hours away. So forget what I said about some folks not being any better than others, because clearly the Vols are waaaaaayy better than Vandy! Go Vols! Ps. My husband started "writing a book" with my then 3 and 6 yr olds. He called it "Hobbiton." He clearly plagiarized The Hobbit, as well as characters similar to Winnie the Pooh (Jimmy the Snew). My daughter who's now 10 still thinks they will publish it someday.

In response to Aaron about what fireworks stores do the rest of the year, when I turned 16 I worked at one of those giant firework stores. It was half firework store half gas station. We were open all year round and you'd be surprised how many people would come in and buy fireworks at random times throughout the year. And the gas station part supported the store the rest of the year

“Moby Dick” as a novel is dry as a bone BUT “In the Heart of the Sea: the Tragedy of the Whale Ship Essex” by Nathaniel Philbrick is in my Top 3 best books ever read. It’s the real story that inspired Melville. Guaranteed if Nate likes “Lone Survivor” he should try this one too. Love the podcast!

I loved The Scarlet Letter reading it as an adult. So much as a Christian that I could empathize with the characters, but it was tough going when I read it in high school.

Nate should be on Taskmaster!! Either as a contestant or as the host with Breakfast Bates playing Taskmaster's assistant. Check it out, show about comedians completing different random tasks/games. I think you'd enjoy and would get a kick out of it. Not to mention your banter with Cow Bates 😆 would make it a success here in America where others who have tried to keep the same energey of Greg Davies and Alex Horne have failed, maybe even have Aaron as Assistant to the Assistant 😆 keep some Office vibes going. (You can watch some of the full episodes on KZfaq fyi)

I love Nate’s malapropisms. Near the end of pod cast Nate said some people have photogenic memories. I’ve heard of someone having a memory like an elephant but not one that looks like a super model.

Aaron's "I eat healthy" ad read...I call shenanigans. No one who gets all excited about the concept of a fast food "side sandwich" is a healthy eater.

When Nate said the last book he read was Lone Survivor, I about lost it. I’m not a reader in any fashion, but Lone Survivor was the last book I read all the way through too. After that I swapped to Audible and listen to audio books now cuz I have ADD like Nate and can’t stay focused on what I’m reading. Nate should definitely try out Audible.

Attention span is so difficult I sometimes find that when I start reading something if I scroll down or flip a page and see a ton more text I just give up and stop reading whatever it was looking for something else that’s a few paragraphs max.

My husband passed away unexpectedly and my kids reminded me that he wanted a bagpipe played that the service ( he got that from Spock’s funeral in Wrath of Khan)…. Where the heck do you find a bagpiper. Careful what you ask for. I’m so glad he didn’t want fireworks. I would have done it, somehow.

There is a movie on Netflix about Murray’s creation of the first English Dictionary. It’s called, “The Professor and The Madman.” It’s based on the true story. A pretty good Drama, too. 🤙 And Nate was spot on, people sent in letters with word suggestions.
