Amazing patience needed for this. I tried it in the 80s but couldn't get the foil to stick.. and I wanted a faster result... much patience required, Much respect for yours!

Give it another go. The glues available have made the foil stick much better now. I'll put a link in the description

Wonderful work! I model in the same way, with authentic materials. I make little dioramas with medieval and tudor buildings in 1:200 scale, and I use real fired clay bricks (1X2X0,5mm) that I make myself, real wood for the timber framing, and real stone for walls and foundations

Utterly fantastic, Richard! I tried this using adhesive backed foil (the stuff employed by hvac techs on ductwork sealing) on a scratcbuilt 1/5 scale r/c Hawker Hind. Looked not nearly your quality but the effect was good. I did have a bit of a weight penalty of 3+ pounds. Luckily you don't incur that. I'm so impressed at your ability. I build 1/48 and 1/72 scale so it would be hard to pull off on such a small subject. I do now recall using silver leaf on an Otaki Ki 43 in 1982. It was hard but with much frustration and inadvertently applying silver leaf on my workbench, tools and everything else. Once it adheres it's on for good absolutely no seam or weeping. I'd really like to see your magic on a P 47 Razorback in 1/32 or larger if available . Cheers Rhys

@M.Parsons-p1y a p47 is on my to do list. Who makes the best kit? I would avoid 1/72nd scale as it’s a bit small for sure. It can be done but way harder to do. On the RC stuff I have seen Litho plate used to good effect. Check out a web site called warbirdsinmyworkshop not RC but a 1/5 scale static models

Good idea to use Natural Metal Foil to reduce the angle of the wing roots. This kit looks amazing. Too steep for my current budget, but when I can afford one, I have to build it. Open gun ports, full engine, detailed cockpit…looks marvellous.

If Iwas to have a go at metal finishing, I would have to do just one panel per day otherwise it would drive me insane, but I love the result

Great stuff Richard. I'm going to try your foiling methods on 1/20 racing cars which have aluminium monocoque chassis. For the 20mm cannon barrels, Master now produce a set specifically for this kit. It available at all the usual places.

Hi Richard, I'm really impressed by your work and your skills in doing that. I would like to try some foil application on my Airfix kit, one suggestion is if you can share what are the tools you use in your work, in Brazil is very difficult to find good tools and I'll have to try in US or EU. Other than that keep the good job, waiting for your next video.

Another amazing video You make something very hard look so easy. I couldn't find the link to the glue you use but what would be really useful is it you could do a short video showing the glue, foil and tools you use as I am keen to experiment on an old kit. A question. Why do you use large foil panels then cut them down? Is it easier to handle than a piece just slightly larger? Thanks.
@RichardsModellingAdventures
@RichardsModellingAdventures Ай бұрын
Thanks Ricardo. I have put a link in the description to a video on this channel. The start of the video explains about the glue and tools you need. I start off with large foils pieces as they are easier to handle to start with especially if you need to manipulate them around curves. Make sure you buy some IPA as you will ned this to clean your brush and the model of excess glue residue. Have fun
