The fuselage is now foiled as mush as I can before I fit the wing. This is a two hour video with real time footage of the foiling process with chapters for each part for easy viewing

It's so therapeutic to watch this. I speak as one who likes to flatten out the wrinkles in the wrappers from Quality Street chocs, and Tunnock's teacakes. There's something soothing about smoothing the malleable foil, taking care to not let it tear. It would be fun to clad a car with sweetie wrappers. A lot easier than this amazing Spitfire..!

I remember doing this with sweet wrappers too 😀it’s good practice 😀

Wow. Fantastic work. Really absolutely fantastic technique. I saw it somewhere a long time ago and was planning to try it, but then completely forgot about it. I'm subscribing and I'll look forward to your next videos. Best regards, Aleš🙂👍

Spectacular work and great attention to detail :) I must ask - what is the name of the large wooden tool you're using to burnish the foil down? I can't seem to find anything similar to it. I have plans to do similar things with my 1/24th fleet - especially the Trumpy P-51D Mustang. Keep up the great work, you've earned a Sub from me :)

Incredible stuff and the real time video is way more instructional than some edited skimming the nuance of the process. Question though: How well does the bare metal surface play with decals? or paint over it?
@RichardsModellingAdventures
@RichardsModellingAdventures Ай бұрын
🙏 thanks. Paint and decals are fine if treated accordingly. Video to come on that

Hey Mr Richard, i discovered your channel the other day and thoroughly enjoyed watch you do your thing, but also the craft sounds and commentaries. I think that the craft sounds are an important feedback of what is happening with the materials, tools etc You could make a poll to find what your audience likes, its located in the community tab of your channel page, could be something like that: Craft sound Music Craft sound + music. By the way, your music selection is nice. Cheers!

I know what you mean about the sounds but keeping other sounds out of the video for two hours is difficult. Cats, dogs, other people, rain, wind etc are hard to control

Hi Richard, I'm loving the "natural" as opposed to "polished" finish you're going with on this build. It's looking absolutely magnificent in this scale. Does the foil you use give you any tonal variation by changing the direction of the grain ? As you might remember, I foil in 1/72nd scale and use the thinner 'garden variety' kitchen foils which can give distinctive variations in tone depending on the orientation of each individual piece of foil. Does the thicker, and better quality, foil you use behave in the same way ? It's a shame the thicker foil you use is impractical for the scale I build in because I'm envious of the latitude the thicker foil appears to provide in terms of the ability to burnish and sand out any creases, crinkles or blemishes. Congratulations on cracking the 1000 Subs threshold . Onwards and upwards 👏 P.s. apologies for the delay in replying to your email and answering your question regarding Tamiya Metallic Silver. I'll try and get a reply to you over the weekend. 🍻

Hi Dean. All good. KZfaq put one of your comments on hold due to a word it didn’t like so I missed it. The grain does nothing as sanding removes any trace of that. Directional sanding does make a difference to tone though. Some bleach can alter colour too. Another video on that I suspect 👍😀catch you on email 👌

Nice look with foil and great choice of music. I can actually make it thru the entire video without getting a migraine. Wonder if for the golden anniversary of this aircraft, you can do one in gold foil.
@RichardsModellingAdventures
@RichardsModellingAdventures Ай бұрын
Thanks Warren. That's an interesting idea for sure. If I did one like that I would do it in 1/32nd scale, probably a MK1, in flight. Not sure where to get gold foil from though.
