Meet Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf: The Stephen Curry Of The 1990's!
2X NBA MVP and Phoenix Suns Star Point Guard Steve Nash retired from the league with the highest career free-throw percentage in NBA history. He shot a ridiculous 90.43 percent, barely beating out Mark Price who held second place at 90.39. Although Steve Nash was indeed a great player and this record is without a doubt amazing, what if I told you there was one person who was statistically better?
NBA player Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf finished his nine-year NBA career with a 90.5 percent free-throw shooting percentage making him the best free-throw shooter of all-time.
Not only that but he was once one of the deadliest shooters in the history of college and professional basketball, a two-time All-American at LSU and then a lottery pick who, in nine seasons in the NBA, played against some of the leagues biggest names.
But why have we not heard about him? Today on NBA Insider we take a closer look at the outstanding journey behind his NBA career.

I hope you guys are all having a great weekend ! I apologize for making this video so long. I had to divide the video into two parts because my computer would not allow me to export the entire file as one. I also made the video long because this was a player who honestly had a great story behind his career and I really wanted to introduce you guys to him. I hope you guys can forgive me for making it so long. However, I hope you guys enjoy part 2 of 2 !

I watched Chris Jackson/Abdul-Rauf his entire time in Denver, no way in hell was he on track to be an All-Star. He was a good player some nights, but it was TOURETTE'S SYNDROME that really tore his career apart though, no way did the National Anthem incident single handedly bring him down. He got the reputation for being a basket case because he was always talking to himself and hitting himself in the head. Maybe people are right though. Maybe he would have had a more successful career if he just stayed as Chris Jackson. I think it's absurd to think that made a difference to 99.9% of people though. Muhammad Ali was beloved by white people

TRJ2241987 Ali was not loved by white people . His skill was loved by white people . He got death threats for not going to Vietnam. Black people this is not our country that's truth . I grew up watching chris practice at the herbert wilson gym in the early 90s when i was at summer camp. He was gracious enough to come in the camp room and give us kids an autograph. It was inspiring for sure. It still took a long time for me to realize how good he really was. Sad how it turned out but mahmoud knows his life is on a certain path and it was all meant to be

Joseph Johnroe people been talking about MAR. Average cats just havent heard of him since the BIG3 bro.....you just dont follow basketball like that (and thats ok....no one is asking you to). But don't discredit the man who still has the freshman record in the NCAA for most points scored in a year. Multiple 50 point games in college, shootouts with MJ and other greats during a time in the league where it was alot rougher to play in. Carried an average team to the playoffs where they beat a powerhouse in Seattle with Kemp, Payton, and other great players. Lol YOU stop it and put some respect on this man's name.

I'm here to tell you that Mahmoud was better than Stephen Cury. I can't give you the date but it was the Saturday before the Dallas Cowboys with Troy and Emmit won their first Super Bowl. Denver beat Chicago and Mahmoud out scored Jordan. Curry wouldn't have had those stats in the 90's.

Mahmoud would have found a lot of success in today's game. The rules have evolved to cater to guard play in the league. The simple fact that a defender can no longer make contact on the perimeter helps create more spacing to shoot threes

At about 6' and 170lbs he dominated the college game at LSU with a young Shaq. Mahmoud would have dominated the NBA as well. At that time in his career he was definitely a one of a kind talent who was blackballed by NBA .
@kirbyaugustine761
@kirbyaugustine761 5 жыл бұрын
threeballbanger His first year I believe affected his confidence. Mahmoud bulked up in preparation for his rookie season but was too heavy and it negatively affected his playing ability. After slimming down the next year and playing at his more natural weight he got the most improved player award. I feel he was well on his way to being the dominant player he was in college on the NBA level but personality conflicts with the coaching staff as well as the Muslim blackball prevented that from happening. The few games where he torched a prime Bulls team as well as the Utah Jazz were indicative of what he was capable of but the politics of the NBA killed his career. If you look at what he’s doing in the Big 3 you can see how savvy a player he is still at his age and with the athleticism of his youth he really was unguardable .

50 dislikes lol but the 2000likes shows why America is great! Beating the Supersonics was probably the biggest upset eva. I wish he would come teach my Knicks how to shoot free throws. As a Muslim i'm glad America is in power imagine if was some other country superpower would probably kill us all. You gotta take the good with the bad just like everything else in life. I understand what Rauf is saying but if they dont fight they would be where they are today, then we wont have a place where if you dont stand for the flag u would be shot. Respect to my big bro tho he'll always be a legend in my book. Rauf drilled MJ that's what Phil was referring to not saying he was better then curry.

I am here to tell you that in today’s NBA he would be unguardable. Gary Payton said the same thing. Also he played for some bum coaches (Issel, Bickerstaff, Westhead, St. Jean). I know Rauf would have flourished in today’s game. I can’t say if Curry would have been as great back in the 90’s where guys could hand check you baseline to baseline if needed and you could literally get your head taken off going down the lane for a layup (see Detroit Pistons of the 90’s). Today’s game is much more offensive friendly and guard focused. 90’s was way more physical and big man focused.

Andy Hoops might've taken your video idea. I'm not sure though. What makes me think that is because it's also about how Abdul-Rauf, and it also mentions that Mahmoud was Steph Curry before Steph was Steph. Just a theory, not for sure. It's just suspicious to me that Andy's video was made months after your video, and it's about basically the same thing, but Andy's is 5 minutes long. He also removed my comment which just seemed even more suspicious. By the way, Andy didn't mention your name once.
