I have seen companies which roams around with 30% hike board and refuses to negotiate on that. Sadly, had to say no to them. In short there is not always a salary range for a role, it can be take it or leave it kind of deal.

I can definitely relate to the point of performing well in an interview. I was recently interviewed for a startup, and I managed to outperform the panel's expectations. As a result, I got a hike of ~120%. However, there is still one question that bugs me a lot, and I would love your inputs on the same, Krish Sir. My question is, how do you answer this question, "What are your salary expectations (i.e., expected CTC)?" This simple looking question is often troublesome and can create some hurdles later during the negotiations if you have not answered it properly. Please do provide your thoughts on this. Once, again thank you for your time and for sharing your precious experience with us.

You definitely make a good point. This question is like a double-edge sword it can work wonders if the HR answers and cut you down to size when the get offended, I myself have wondered upon this many times but as a fresher don't know how to put forward this question. I hope Sir answers this!

Tell what you are withdrawing and also tell before applying to the post i have researched on the salary offered for this post and those numbers are satisfactory. Then you can say + 20% to 30% of what you have found. You may tell the figure also, be careful about you over-expecting so give a hint that you are negotiable. It shouldn’t be like nai bhai mujhe to itna hi chahiye.

@sagarmurmu2569

@@AnuragSharma-mq2gn yes it varies it also depends on the budget allocated to recruit the people. Let’s say 20L for 2. Chances are there one may get 12LPA and other may get 8LPA. But the recruiter tries to fit all the required employees to fit within the budget given to him

Negotiation is not our job, these HRs are hired based on this negotiation skills too, You can only be rigid iff 1- Performance in Interview 2- Immediate joiners( how soon you can join, if already running on notice period, 'Advantage' 3- another offer In hand. And ofcourse the budget, Remember only one thing if you are in so much need of that job, and you don't have any offer in hand, you can't negotiate much with these HRs

I don't understand when you say "if you did well in the interview", I think it's fairly obvious that you did well, better than the others, because you're the one they selected. One exception to this is if their 1st selected turned off the offer, and you're the backup, then you wasn't the better, but still did pretty well interview.

I have to disagree on one point. Using other company offer to negotiate higher salary offer at another Company is not a bad move. I believe it is the only way to get a better hike in many cases, and should be used in any case possible at any stage of your career. All companies are out there to shaft you. It is in their best interest to pay as less as possible. If you were the owner of the company, you would also want to pay as less as possible.
