I once got an award in primary school when I was 5 years old for spelling "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" correctly. I remember collecting my reward thinking "I'm getting an award for something that is average ability" (The word mediocre was not in my vocabulary, but this was the word I would have used) Also when I was 5, the teacher was asking us what the highest number we could count up to was. A stupid question. I said 100 in the interest of saving time, because I knew I could prove that in

I received many participation trophies growing up, and I kept them for a while but eventually they all found their way to the garbage. Perhaps I'd have kept them a little longer if they were trophies for actually winning, but I have to figure all of them would have ended up in the same place. Kids aren't stupid, when they get a trophy they know why they got it, if it was for winning or just for trying. The idea that somehow giving them to our children stunts their growth or drive seems myopic. It's hard to imagine any of our best athletes being placated and turned away from excelling at their sport just because they got a couple participation trophies. They're definitely not doing it just for the accolades.

The European part of Russia is bigger than greenland and Denmark combined. 👍looked it up to be sure
@doctorale6666 жыл бұрын
The largest European country by landmass is actually European Russia which comes in at around 4 million Km/2 vs Greenland's 2 million Km/2, so basically they got it all wrong.

Same. I lost a boxing match once and they gave me a "silver medal"... There's no sport where it's more obvious that you lost than boxing. The ref handed it to me after the decision and I chucked it across the room. I was never so disgusted in my whole life.

Tiramisu #1P4PGOAT Maybe they should change the name to patronizing trophies. Because that's what they are. I never got a participation trophy. Probably because I grew up in Idaho and not some pussy liberal place full of kale eating women and soy boy losers. No. I do not think that criticizing the cultures that give out participation trophies and calling them all losers and sissies is harsh. I think we need to send in some bulldozers to destroy these foolish places. Now that's harsh.

I really love these conversations, but why is the video production absolutely terrible on some of these videos? Figure out the white balance, lock off the cameras, get your subject in focus (instead of the clock), and figure the rest out in editing. C'mon, XM. It's radio, not an edgy college documentary.

I won a "silver medal" for losing one of my amateur boxing fights... I never was so disgusted by an inanimate object in my whole life. I chucked it across the room when the ref gave it to me after the decision. It wasn't intentional it was just instinct. He could've handed me a melting turd and I would've kept it in my hands longer.

Trophy City, yes there are too many trophies. Not everybody should get recognized as being great for whatever they show up for. Participation trophies shouldn't be physical objects that ultimately just clog landfills, participation is something we can carry in our character and that is plenty enough.
