In this video, I take a look at the Neptune Systems Apex. Which was provided to me by TB Aquatics. This video covers the unboxing, set up and I also give a review on the new Apex aquarium controller from Neptune Systems. Not all brands of aquarium controllers are created equal.

Great video. I’ve been wondering about the energy tracking aspect of this and how it worked and you definitely helped me understand it a little better!

Thanks for the great vids & reviews... especially on this. After watching your (and other's) video on the Apex, Santa finally broke down and bought himself a killer setup. I took advantage of BRS's sales and a bunch of stashed bonus points... picked up the Apex, an extra 832, ATK, Breakout box, new heaters, some extra sensors & switches, and snabbed a good deal from Amazon on a Kindle Fire to have a display unit on the front of the tank stand. Stoked... everything's due to come in over the next couple of days.

Great! Worth saving and very helpful. Right now I only have an Apex Jr for the 29g. But I'm wanting the gold for the 55g, if not for the 125g that's in my future. ;-)

An Apex Jr is perfect for a 29 gallon and even still you can add on other features and it can grow with you as a hobbyist.

Yea, eventually the 29g will be retired and the Jr added to and used elsewhere. I'm just have trouble letting the 29g go yet. LOL

I saw a comment you did with reefegil about changing the pumps to Vortech cause the rubber bands on the Neptune pumps were wearing out , my question to you is how happy you are now with the Neptune Systems today 10 to 11 months after you got them the pump and the Apex Aquariums controls system. Am checking all videos of this system cause am interested in adding the pumps to my red sea s 650 to apply more circulación to the tank (that already comes with 4 pumps) but there is always this corner that builds ciano bacteria cause circulation there is poor Thank you! For your videos very good am subscribed to your channel very informative for me that am basically new to the hobby (2 years) Thank you!

Thanks for the sub and great question! The "new" Apex is amazing and I wouldn't have a saltwater tank without one. Neptune Systems is a business and I don't believe they could keep the doors open with just one high priced product. So they look to diversify the product line. I do believe, the old saying "Jack of all trades, master of none..." does apply here. I was in fanboy mode when I first got the WAV pumps. They were easy to setup and they work quieter than my Ecotech Vortech MP 40. Overtime they have become increasingly louder, to the point now they are much louder than the MP 40. I'm not sure how long I've had them but it has been less than a year and I've had the MP 40 for longer which is now much quieter then the WAV Pumps. After being in the hobby for over 10 years, one of the most important steps to keeping a successful saltwater aquarium is redundancy. Take an aquarium heater for example, it's a bad idea to only have only one heater in an aquarium. Heaters are the weakest point of any aquarium and now most hobbyist are now using two heaters in a aquarium system. One heater in the display tank and one in the sump. In hopes that, if one heater fails the other one will maintain the temperature until it can be taking care of. At this point, I'm not sure that ONE company has ALL the answers for us.

Mad Hatter's Reef Thank you! Am honestly tell you that I don’t use any heater in my home tank and is all good so far I have a friend that everything melt in one night. But I hear your point at the end is all about how much we want to spend and how much is actually need it or work properly

You ever heard of anyone putting an apex on a more medium/nano size aquarium? I'm considering one for a jbj 45. I'm just curious how everything would fit, it has a rear sump compartment instead of an in cabinet sump
@MadHattersReef
@MadHattersReef 7 жыл бұрын
Charles P absolutely. Depends on what you want to do. If you see yourself wanting to use additional components components such as WAV and DOS I would go with the new Apex. If you want just some of the features, then I would go with the Apex Jr.
@johnparker5429

I think I've already got so much plugs I would fill up the apex jr. What you think about apex classic? It's like $300 cheaper
@MadHattersReef
@MadHattersReef 7 жыл бұрын
Charles P yeah you only get 4 plugs with the junior you get 8 plugs with the classic put all the new stuff like the WAV and Dos need the 1 link. The classic isn't plug and play like the new Apex.

Even with an Apex you should still use test your water parameters. If I noticed a variance between my test kit and the Apex. At that point I would probably have a recalibrate my prob.

Really don’t see the point. I would spend the money if it really seemed worth it. All you need is a dosing pump and some Hanna checkers. I test the big 5 once per week. I don’t know, it seems like people get all freaked out about the high tech of it all, but personally I would feel safer doing it myself, and who really cares that it will tell you how much it will cost you with your electric bill??? Just call the electric company and ask them to compare bills before and after you started up your new fish tank. This is absolutely useless to me and way over priced. Just my opinion. I have a very successful mixed reef without all the high tech crap. I don’t know... maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t think I am. I also hear of them failing. I know if I crash my tank, it’s because I didn’t test, and it’s my fault. This is somewhat of a lazy approach to reefing in my opinion, and your putting all your trust into apex.
