Two Stretchy Shawl Bind Off Methods
There's more than one way to bind off a shawl - learn two different methods (and some variations) in this video. We'll look at the Yarn Over Bind Off which produces a really ruffly bind off edge that's great for a shawl that needs to be blocked and stretched a lot. We'll also look at the Lace Bind Off (also called the Elastic Bind Off, the Estonian Bind Off, and the Russian Bind Off). While it's not as stretchy as the Yarn Over Bind Off it's still a great option when you don't need something super stretchy. It can also be worked 'in pattern' which makes it a great choice for knit-and-purl combinations like rib patterns.
📝 INSTRUCTIONS:
Lace Bind Off
1. Knit 2 stitches.
2. Bind off first stitch by pulling it over the second stitch.
3. Yarn over.
4. Pass the stitch on the right needle over the yarn over, binding it off.
5. Knit the next stitch and bind off another stitch.
6. Repeat from Step 3 above until all the stitches have been bound off.
Lace (Elastic) Bind Off
1. Knit 2 stitches.
2. Slip the 2 stitches back to the left needle.
3. Knit the 2 stitches together through the back legs.
4. Knit 1 stitch.
5. Repeat from Step 2 above.
