@whinstonwhoodle63734 жыл бұрын
Honestly. Turned on the ac before I left for the day today, so I could come back to a cool house. Once I leave, the Nest decides to jack the temp up so the ac turns off and the house is sweltering when I return. Now I’m sitting outside on the patio since the house is as hot as an oven, next to the ac unit which is screaming loud...and going to stay that way for the next four hours until the house is finally cool. I hate this Nest piece of crap.
@larente2034 жыл бұрын
@@whinstonwhoodle6373 same with me. Yesterday my ac was running for 18 1/2 hours. This shit is confusing. I was laying in bed and it decides to cut off, once i get up it turned back on. Thank you so much! I live way up north and the temps sit below zero for weeks at a time. Nest kept shutting my furnace off after heating for just a few minutes. Then I'd have to mess with the temp setting to get it to kick back on. I was getting worried that the constant on/off with the furnace was going to eventually cause it to fail. Did this work for you? I did this, and it does help, but I manually set my thermostat to 68 every night before going to bed, and it's often at 74° when I wake up in the morning? Probably because it didn't "detect" me in the room, but I'm sleeping, so what am I supposed to do, get up every couple hours and walk in front of the thermostat so that it knows I'm still there??

Why would nest chose to make it so hard and unintuitive to set and hold a certin temperature like a regular old thermostat. I will stay away from their products.
@MattMerkle5 жыл бұрын
Because the entire point is not to. There's no reason to run the A/C when no one's home, and most people like to have their temps hotter or cooler at night when they dress down. Furthermore, in places where HVAC is extremely expensive, it can save tons of money by adjusting up or down slightly.
@notbadsteve5 жыл бұрын
in the UK, I've just had to buy a new boiler. New regulations mean that I have to have nest. it's bullshit. why would I want a thermostat in one room, so I can't set different temps in each room? before, I had thermostatic valves on each rad, so each room in my house was optimal. now nest argues with me and wants everything to be the same. I hate it. we're are being false fed, a load of tech that we don't need. eventually, the human race will have absolutely nothing to do. so much for solving obesity eh?
@lr90105 жыл бұрын
Mine has echo minimum temps you can set for heat and cool. Just put on the temp you want and if the temp in your house drops below those echo temps your system will cut on to reach the temp you set.
@yamabluez5 жыл бұрын
If you have a schedule programmed, say to save energy when you are away at work, then you're on vacation and just want to hold the temperature. Most other simple programmable thermostats give you a hold with a simple button press. This nest is just ridiculously complicated to do that simple and common feature. I can't believe it doesn't have a simple hold/overide.
@MattMerkle5 жыл бұрын
@@yamabluez that's because it's unnecessary. Just turn off the system. The Nest has built in limits that it will ensure are not exceeded, basically exactly for that purpose.

I wish I had found this video a few months ago. I installed Nest thermostats in our holiday home on the coast which we use occasionally: BIG MISTAKE. Too may times after we left and set the temp i would check it remotely to find the heat or AC on by auto schedule, costing us money. I asked Nest where's the Hold feature and was told there isn't one. Then they gave me the instructions (as in this video) as a work-around. Ridiculous! Why not listen to the customers and add a simple Hold feature? I still have the old thermostats and will replace the Nest if they give me any more aggro.
