As a Palace fan, watching the 6th episode (which really focused on Jonny Williams) was heart breaking. It must be so hard for him with mental health problems creeping in and constant injuries, when he broke through our youth academy, he was dynamite. Injuries have plagued his career and really held him back, if he'd had a relatively injury free career, he'd still be starting for us. 100%

SunderlandKid123...40,000 who’d have made the unique Sunderland atmosphere if at RP. SOL is only impressive because it’s large. I hate these new stadiums mate. Most fans are. The Fulwell End used to make serious noise. What gets me is this. These stadia hold memories for so many thousands of people. Why are they not grade listed buildings? It’s it because it’s Common folk’s memories? Guarantee that within a mile of RP or SOL there will be a house where a famous highwayman once had a piss. Or a windmill? It’s wrong if you ask me mate.

Halfway through the series but it’s an absolute marvel. As an Arsenal fan (and an American to boot) I’ve always respected English fans, especially of the clubs outside the top six. Great video. Helped give me context. I loved this doc, but I’m fairly new to Premier League so I didn’t understand some of what was happening. Doc’s can be tough bc you never get the full story…it’s either someone trying hard to make themselves look good, or creative editing to make someone look bad or foolish.

Thanks for the review, your analysis was good and you have a real talent as a sports presenter. I am a Man City fan and went through similar emotions to those experienced by Sunderland fans when we dropped into League 1, some 20 years ago. I take your point about the season review, but I would argue that this was an essential element required in order to explain what was going on to non fans of SAFC. I thought the CEO performed his role to the best of his abilities, what’s more he really seemed to care. The ‘villain of the piece’ was the chairman, of that (on the basis of the series), there can be little doubt. I agree with your comments about both the managers, SG uninspiring and (perhaps) CC not hard enough...but what a genuinely nice fella and down to earth guy CC is. As for the players, they are a mixed bunch, some giving their all, and others who couldn’t give a flying f*ck. I have a number of mates who play (or played) professional football and I think that the lack of effort and passion by some guys happens everywhere, the difference is that because of a poor recruitment policy by the club, largely driven by having no money, meant the club took players that others had rejected. I loved the staff working at the club. I agree that Joyce was so much more than a chef - wonderful lady, who is everybody’s favorite aunty...a diamond of a woman who does so much, behind the scenes, to boost the friendly culture of the club. I thought Jonny Williams in particular came across not only as a decent player, but also as a hugely like-able man who was coping with his inner-demons brought on by so many injuries. Best of all, of course are the fans. I was privileged to attend Sunderland Uni (it was the Polytechnic back then), and I can attest to the fact that a warmer group of people it would be hard to meet. The fans come across really well - they are the real stars. Top TV series, well produced and an outstanding theme tune. Thanks again for your excellent review.

As a fellow Arsenal fan, I’ve been rewatching the series to take my mind off the train wreck that is our team at the moment, that way I can tell myself “well it could always be worse”. But yes the incompetence of Sunderland is absolutely comical, especially in the second season because you see the incompetence spill over to Donald and Methven. What a couple of stupid idiots letting Josh Maja go to Bordeaux, then they spend $4 million on a useless Will Grigg when they could’ve gave it to Maja to keep him! And the Sunderland defenders were shockingly bad, my dad could’ve scored a brace against Tom Flanagan, and he’s in a wheelchair

Don't agree on the opening church sermon bit: I found it a bit fake, and more than a bit weird. The idea that this showed how much of a "community club" Sunderland are isn't quite right: aren't all clubs community clubs? What do you think of players like fletcher and Steele after the documentary? To me (not a Sunderland fan) they seemed to try their best to succeed and both did seem to work as hard as they could to do good things for the team but either a lack of ability or the state the club was in at the time prevented anything positive from coming out of it

ShayNUFC if watfud had an upload like this out I don’t know one Luton fan who wouldn’t have the urge to piss on said devise. And then, for good measure, dig a hole about 87m deep, set the iPad at the bottom of the hole and reseal with toughened concrete but not before buying a 20mg nuclear warhead from the Russkies. Why do I love watching “Atom Central”? Nukes going off is mental. Did you know that if the commies dropped their bomb on the Shetland Islands windows in London would smash? That’s 600 miles. That bomb would do. So the moral of this story is...hate your local rivals and if at all possible nuke them.

I saw a round tube with the “Smarties” emblem. It was an orange box. Orange only Smarties! The moral of this interesting story...orange is just the best. The futures bright...it’s not yellow is it. Or green. Or pink with polka dots. Are Nine Inch Nails as good as Luton? Close one. I love Nine Inch Nails. Best band ever. And they’re not orange. Proving beyond any unreasonable doubt that there is always sometimes often occasionally an exception to the rule. Orange.

Thanks for review. It sounds interesting, hilarious and from a Sunderland fan POV, frustrating. I must say, your recap on Jack Asswell has made me lose all respect for the man. What an awful, awful person. Arrogant jerk. On all that money and thinks he doesn't have to do a thing to earn it. I feel bad for Sunderland fans that you had to put up with a hopeless player like him and an inept chairman that brought him in. Wait. Wasn't it Moyes in charge when Asswell signed for you? I could've sworn he was since he was trying to rebuild his Everton 2.0, with a past it Lescott also being signed, but he only managed to turn you into a laughing stock of a reject club. Lescott was rubbish too as was Moyes for signing him. Even at his best, he was average.
