My name is Scott. Since February 2019, I have lived full-time in and worked a corporate job from my Winnebago Travato GL, a 21' Class B RV camper van built on a Ram Promaster chassis. In September 2021, I exited Corporate life and now run my RV Brand & KZfaq business full-time from my RV

Scott one of the MANY things I like about you is you're just so darn nice. When you know something is not right you pointed out so eloquently. In reality these van companies do nothing for the benefit of the customer, they re-engineer to save $$. It's ridiculous to open doors and let all the heat or a/c out to have pressurized water ! Your van is so much better than current models of same type. Your back seat is nicer thicker bench, and jump seat is a plus. Your shower has more height. Gas is better than induction. For any real cooking you need 2 burners not 1. You made me like this model,so if I'm spending over 150k someone is going to drill a hole through the van ..that WONT leak or allow critters in and that will be that. This is why so many opt for private builds.I still rather do business with a large dealership that won't be out of business a year from now . Warranties are very important and reputable dealerships are the way to go for that. That's why I'm traveling to Gainesville to shop for mine instead of up here in CT. I know they'll figure out a way to take this model and adjust it the way it should be even if I have to pay a few dollars more.

Great information that I can look at when I could purchase new or used. The improvements are good to see. I like the water set up, and your idea of keeping water off the floor. The lighter bed was also a good improvement for older people like myself. Take care!

Thanks, Scott and Mike. This was a super helpful video. I am 6' 2" and ready to buy a GL in the next few months for full-time living. I do think the 2019 is a bit of a better fit for me, which is great news if I can find an acceptable used one! The extra bathroom height and puzzle bed have me sold. Really appreciate this video.

I am new to all of this and am strongly considering the van life for myself and my 5yo. The 2019 worries better for me as I do also work remotely and homeschool. I've watched so many videos but no one talks much about wifi or Internet and such. Thank you though for being there only one to show his the dinette turns into another bed for two! 🤗

Hi Karen. Internet is largely achieved through cellular MiFi hot spots. Hardware and plans vary widely, so you’ll need to chekc with providers.

Great information. Thanks for sharing. Scott, I really like your van for the 2nd sleeping and the dining table. I’m looking for a second bed option. The diamond stitching of Mike’s van does look higher end which is beautiful. The new safety upgrades are excellent with the new travato and the bed would be excellent lighter weight. The ah ha was showing the differences. Thanks. Overall, I would have to choose one with a second bed option because that is a top priority to me. Maybe Winnebago will change the dining area back for future travato’s. I have another 6 months or so before I will purchase so your channel has been an excellent resource.

MESA MIKE… you were such a trooper to open up your van Bandit to us and allow me to record the differences. So proud of you taking action and getting a van even though it didnt have exactly everything you wanted. Like a perfect spouse, unicorns 🦄 are tough to find. Thanks Scott and Mike. Great side by side comparison! We really like our 2021GL layout and are lucky to also have a 2021 chassis with the upgrades Mike mentioned (except the radio). Would love to have the hot water recirculation valve. Also like the normal kitchen sink and faucet. However, replacing the fold down sink/faucet with a normal setup in our Travato was not a difficult mod. Will be interesting to see what Winnebago does with the next G update (2022.5???).

Yeah but with a retail in the 190K range now, I'll go without them. the higher they bring the retail, the worst it is for resale as now you're competing with dealers the will be able to reduce pricing base on bigger manufacturer $ to them based of volume and internal discounts.

Thanks for this fantastic tour. My issue with all of the levers for water is that they are just more things to break. Wish they had the option for GL great rooms. Bench seat or bucket seats , etc .

I definitely like your layout in the front better than the new one. They took a step backwards as far as comfort and flexibility with the new model up front. I do like the new sink and induction cooktop. I like the style of your kitchen window, but the size of the new kitchen window. I like the new recycle water warmup system in the new model. I like the new water station, but do not like that you have to have the door open to fill. I would use a short 1’ to 2’ pigtail hose so I can make the water connection outside and then disconnect outside and let pigtail drain outside. I’m about 5’8” and my wife is shorter so I think the new bathroom would work fine. Thanks Mike for sharing your van…

I love my 2021G layout that's identical to Lilly. I'd miss the jumpseat because I find it much more comfortable to sit on it and use the table extension. I'm a bit heavy so sitting on the bench seat puts me too close to the table. I HATE the seatbelt-type latch on the bed that's WAY in the back where it's hard to reach with all the junk I have in the "garage" area. My solution is not to move the latch but to find a way to clean out the garage so I can get to it easier. All in all, it's a good design and I'm happy.

Great comparison. I love the G but bought a 22 Solis PX because of the large bed in the back with a side bath. We did a mod that took us from a queen east-west bed to a king north-south bed. But having a great room like in a G is key for me. I would say I was only looking for a 2022 because of the ram digital rearview mirror. It makes driving my 21 four Solis PX easier than my 2009 Toyota Yaris tiny car.

Great comprehensive comparison. I still like my KL the best, but if I were to choose a GL, it would NOT be the 2022 configuration. Nothing is ever perfect, but the former floor plan, features, and especially the water setup would be my choice. Clear winner is the 2019 model. I suspect some of the changes will be changed back in future models, because it seems like most people prefer the former setup.

I’m so blown away by how easily you can open your bathroom door. Ours was two hands and jiggling and wiggling until the thing finally broke and fell off - mid major trip! Grrr…. We put up a shower curtain in its place and it’s so much better. Plus it doesn’t clatter going down the road. I like how the 2022 doesn’t have that cheap Jensen radio. Just doesn’t work very well and I’d like to just take it out and throw it away. It takes up space. Same thing with the TV. And we are those seniors for whom it takes two people to get the bed up. My husband can do it because he’s 6‘3“. I can’t without asking him. But even when he does it if I am there it’s easier if I put my shoulder into it to hold it up while he’s securing it. Still trying to talk him into downsizing to the Pocket… :)

@@michaelclark9134 Ours doesn’t seem to be - didn’t seem to be (it’s removed) - well installed, as it turned out. Right out of the box it was hanging up down at the bottom track. That track was installed with a wrinkle in it and it felt like the whole thing was crammed into a space that was too small - also the bamboo mats were badly shaped and crowded it out. But after it fell off, we just left it off and put up a shower curtain. Also the aluminum slats rattling down the road drove my husband crazy. Much happier with the shower curtain.

What would have been interesting to see is with the vans parked in the same area on a warm sunny day, measure the air temp at the front table area. Am curious if they made any measurable improvements to the insulation in what is usually the hottest section. (Of course both engines will have needed to be cooled off / hoods open, as that too is a heat source most folks overlook). Great video, thx!!

Hi John. My Travato 59GL is a 2018 Promaster chassis and a 2019 Winnebago build out. WGO wanted to eliminate the shower drain pump, so they raised the floor to gravity drain into the grey tank.

I think I can live with most of the changes, most are improvements. Particularly the preheat water, TV new location and induction cooktop. The bathroom height could be my biggest problem.. Even if your shower last 5-10 mins, enduring it several times a week will be difficult. I'll prefer your bench and table. If I could adapt your bigger table, I will do it.

Considering it's a 2 person van for sleeping I think a more comfortable bench seat for the owners is better than 2 seats designed for extra passengers with belts.

Two passenger seats is to increase versatility for people that use this van as a personal vehicle as well as a camper . Not everyone has one dedicated to vacation use only .

I'll be in the minority here and say I like the 2022 layout better. - The new table and seats would allow me (large around the waist) to actually move the drivers seat back and recline some for comfort. We tested out a Nova 20C and with the drivers seat hitting the fridge and had to rule it out. - For extra table space, could just buy an additional table for the passenger side - We are leaning towards the 59G (no lithium) and the new 2800i generator is perfect for our needs - Really like the new TV swivel - Few extra inches on bed width and the framing are a big plus - the rear water setup (i.e. city line can't be used with doors closed) will actually be perfect for our needs. Most of the time we'll be dry camping with few RV Park visits. - Upgraded Promaster features get 3 thumbs up! Thanks for all your videos!! (side - your posted website does not seem to load)

Scott, Thank you for this comparison video. My thoughts on the shower would be to use a taller van such as the Transit. The other solution would to lower the floor in the shower. Would have to cut through the van floor. Not sure is that is possible. The water fill should be outside like yours. Why was the Winnebago Paseo discontinued?

First new G we have seen with the darker wood cabinets, it looks so much more cozy than the light colored wood. Having a dinette with "racing" seats is just silly. I would love to see a model like Lilly with custom upholstery done to the dinette. Imagine how cool it would be with quality furniture style fabrics. I do like the lighter bed but it looks horrible in the up position. Sometimes i wonder why there are no upfitters for Travato interiors? You know like they do for the Storyteller vans.

in the 22 lithium models -- all the tanks are under the van and all tanks -- fresh water -- grey and black holding tanks have 12 vdc heater pads -- the Volta battery pack is under the van as well and has 120 volt ac heating pads

Great reviews from a user perspective. I have a Winnebago B+/C Cambria that has 4x4 conversion which is a requirement.. Have loved it for over 3 years but have been kicking the tires on downsizing a bit. Are either of these all wheel drive or can they be ordered with 4 wheel drive like the Mercedes or Transit? BTW, have owned various RVs over the years from Lance, Forrest River and Kit but by far it seems Winnebago owns the craftmanship and quality trophy from us although still some room for improvement.

I still prefer and am shopping for a 2020 GL NP Edition. The great room comparison makes the difference. WBGO raised the bathroom floor so they could get rid of the shower sump pump.

As far as the water valves are concerned, Winnebago should provide an access door to the rear doors (just like they have on the new EKKO) which would provide easier access without having to really open the rear doors and still keep it as a 4 season van and keep that space heated.

Having to fill your tank with the door open could be a serious safety hazard for someone, while your watching your tank fill, what or who’s watching you 👀 ? Especially if your elderly, alone, have physical limitations, so many things could go wrong … don’t want to be the late lunch special for any 🐻 🐊 🦝 critters or blitzed by a down on their luck desperate person … the rig is nice, but that one water situation would make me pass on it. If it were given to me, the first thing I’d do is use the money I didn’t purchase it with and have that changed!!! Both your rigs are very nice and thank you for sharing.

Great video! Doing my research on the Travato and am not sure I like some of the upgrades. Any changes to the location of the Volta batteries? I've heard they are not good being outside and under the vehicle?

very easy to replace the lagun table with what size you want.... that said.. I have already bought a second lagun table -- I did get a smaller table top on the second one. I likely will replace the orignal with a custom size.. if really wanted you could do a table top with a swing out extension as well

I think I will do some size table in bamboo. the second lagun table I bought is of bamboo and I look the look and feel of it.. I'm nearly finished with my electronic and electrics upgrades / mods..... which is where I started my changes in my 22GL

btw... there are a number of folks that saw 4in or so of the old style G table at the wall end and reattach the hinge-mount as they say the table is too long and gets in the way of passage to the seats...

@@steventoney4018 We shortened our 2021GL table by three inches. Makes it much easier to access the cab and don’t notice any difference when using the table. Really like the relatively large table with the swing out extension.

Thanks for another great video. Ram Promaster has added additional tech items such as Adaptive Cruise Control, lane departure warning etc. ...I think it is prudent to wait for that tech to show up in show rooms before purchasing a Travato. I should mention, I am a big fan of Adaptive Cruise Control and can't live without it. Of course, not every one is as gung ho on it as I am :)

I started out wanting to buy a LTV but I felt that the Travato was more nimble and I liked that it would be easier to Stealth camp...and then there is VOLTA!

Not sure I’d buy a RV based solely on their Warranty. Everyting, even a traditional house, comes with problems to fix right away and over time. I’d recommend buy a RV that has a floor plan that best fits your needs to enable your WHY do you want to RV.

Here is what is on the Winnebago Travato webpage. Not super helpful. Mentions heated tanks but not sure if that is because of internal or external tanks with heating pads (like I have). Maybe the source of truth is Lichtsinn RV in Forest City. They make very thorough videos on Travato. Roof and sidewall insulation, heated tanks and available dual-pane acrylic insulated windows extend the camping season and the Eco-Hot® water system cuts water waste and waiting time for hot water.*

Mixed opinion on the new water station. I dont like the idea of having the door open to have a hose water connection. Prefer the older side hose connector. Having the various valves for winterization and tank fill not hidden under a bed ( in a 2020 KL) is a plus but it means doing those valve changes standing outside with door open.

We currently have a Winnebago towable, always interested in seeing Class B/C's and what is out there. I enjoyed the comparisons of the two. LOL on tape measure. Story is, after I took delivery I discovered the tape measure in the wardrobe. So I bought a $108,000 tape measure and got a free van 🚐. Winnebago craftsman left her tape measure 📐 for me

I'm between a pre-owned 2021 and 2022. So far, I think I might do a 2022 and retro-fit the table from the 2021 while keeping the lagoon to use by the entrance mount. Or knowing me, now that I said this, I'll just end up doing a 2021. They cut costs by getting rid of the outdoor speakers, head unit by the TV etc... Don't care much for the TV not swiveling as I can just use my laptop on the kitchen counter and watch it on from the bed if necessary. Also, I'm 5'10 and dislike the cockamamie solution for the gravity bathroom setup. Head unit on the 2022 with the new rear view etc.. are also added value so a tough decision but overall (to me) the 2021 and below are better a better option.

Good question on a electric chassis engine, no clue. MPG on my loaded up Travato is 12 City, 15-18 Hwy

We have a 2021 G and we absolutely live in the lounge while on the road. So glad we didn’t wait and get the 2022. That table is simply too small. What’s the thinking there?

Just got my 2022 Travato Today and one possible difference not mentioned is the grey water tank. It is NOT gravity feed to empty so you cannot hook up and leave it open. I am not sure you your older model has the same system though. Grey tank empties by pump only.

Correct, macerator pump to empty the grey tank. However, the shower drain is gravity into the grey tank. I think I got that right

I really wish those dinette seats were a bench that could even fold down into a small bed. Way more functional and would make this rig way more appealing. Those seats look extremely uncomfortable and where are those people going to sleep anyway? Makes absolutely no sense. I like everything in this van except for those seats. Big fridge is great, and the bathroom is nice. This is a good 1 person rig, but make those seats into a more of a couch/bench/comfy lounging spot.

Great comparison video. Seems like Winnebago went backwards in the 2022 especially with the ridiculous water set up. That alone would keep me from buying a Travato. Looks like a non RVer designed some of the changes in the 22 version.

Blind spot monitor on a van is huge. I gave my Hyundai Tucson mid sized suv to my parents in their late 70s and that was the main safety feature that I wanted for my mom. It should be mandatory on all new vehicles.

Hi Scott, I just noticed an error on the video regarding the shower clearance on my shower in the 2022 GL. You have it listed and actually mentioned my clearance as 59 inches. The 2022GL shower clearance is actually 69 inches. I wanted to list that correction for any of the viewers that may have noticed it as well or want a true comparison...No biggie, probably just a typo or common misquote.

That is correct on the mis-speak in the video part in your shower. In mine I stated things correctly. Hoping people understand the difference between the two showers is about 3”. Thx Mesa Mike for the clarification :)

Properly sized and placed real bathroom sinks can be quite useful. I use my bathroom sink 10 times a day. I like cleaning hands, teeth, and quick wash of something using that sink in my Travato. Undersized and badly placed sinks… totally ageee with you

I have a 2017.5 travato and love it. It has a real black tank, a second bed, a much simpler water system and a much simpler rear bed. I have done several mods (different table, new front bed deployment) as well as a slide out AC/DC fridge. My rig is perfect for our family of 3 (just a toy … no full time). Next year I will “upgrade” but I’m going custom built. Winnebago has gone rapidly downhill in quality and functionality in my opinion.
