too bad for me it just won't update. It asks for updating to 2.1.2 or sth, I accept, but when I open it up again, it still wants to update. Hope this time it will actually update.

Thanks for posting this Ally. This does help. And thank you for posting the link to see all of the changes. I'm glad Affinity keeps moving forward. In today's world you keep progressing or you stagnate and get left behind. The competition will overwhelm you. Plus we photographers and/or artists need the best and most up-to-date tools. Really interesting. The duplicate menu is a really nice improvement ! If there was a scale option too it would have been perfect ! I can't complain Affinity is moving in the right direction after each updates ! Really happy to made the move from PS to Designer ^^ ! Keep it up !

I've heard the duplicate menu is just a "stage 1", and the developers have more plans for it in the future. We'll see how they improve it in the next updates! 😊

Holding the keyboard shortcut is pretty nice. And toggling between brush size preview and cross hair with caps lock is pretty nice too. But 2.2 really seems like it is primarily about Publisher, which I don’t use, so it’s kind of meh for me.

Very nice video, thanks. My favorite new feature is the cross-reference added to Publisher, because I often refer to figures and the page number they are on, this gives flexibility. Unfortunately, I think cross-reference will not work across publisher files. Why do I need that ? I have a 1000 page document with many figures and publisher has memory issues even on a MAC Studio. So I divided the document into 4 files, numbered correctly. I create individual PDF's and use the quick feature in finder to combine. Keep the videos coming - and stay safe.

The cross reference feature is great! I almost included it in this video, but decided to keep this video focuses on updates that all 3 programs benefit from. I'm glad cross references will help you 😊

I appreciate your reply. I spent time playing with the cross references across chapters in a book and after trial and error and rereading the help page, I must admit the it does work and so my thoughts from yesterday are incorrect. Please consider a future video perhaps going over some examples on how to use cross reference say, with automatically numbered captions for figures and/or tables that can be referenced@@AffinityRevolution Thank you for your videos, etc. Hopefully your husbands LPR is getting better, but you are still the one to make the videos, so ....

I immediately pinned the grayscale toggle to my toolbars. Many of my projects will spend most of their time on E Ink devices, so the easier it is to make sure vivid color contrast isn't all one shade of gray, the better.

I'm so glad to finally see a move function dialogue box like Illustrator has, needing to convert polar coordinates to cartesian coordinates for things like hexagons was such a hassle

Ya, I'd say this was a fairly minor update. There were a lot of bug fixes in this update too, so I think this was more of a "polish update". I bet we will get more exciting features in upcoming updates. 😊

Good to see some improvement, but I'm still waiting for the generative fill feature, much like what Photoshop is doing, except maybe offline powered by Stable Diffusion or other generative AI.

When exporting for a website, I'll export as a JPEG, and lower the "Quality" slider to 90%. That makes the file size much smaller, with only a microscopic amount of quality lost. 🙂

I bought Affinity Studio last month. How can I access these new updates? Is there an option to update? Affinity is still new for me, and I use mostly Affinity Designer on iPad, and from time to time on the laptop.

I've had the affinity programs for some time now but still consider myself a beginner. I like the ability to change the color of my guides most at this stage of my learning because I had issues with the blue only guides before when I was using a blue background. I plan to play around with it some more.

I know it will never happen but I REALLLY REALLY want generative fill as much as I hate adobe my wife uses it and I played around with it and man its a game changer at times and a better subject selection like being able to defrinciate the subject and the background and etc would be amazing

Very unlikely Affinity would add that while there is legal ambiguity. They don't have their own licensed content to train on like Adobe. However, they are currently working on scripting/plugin extension support. This will likely be the best path forward as the community can build the integrations. Affinity likely could not keep up anyway with the rapid changes in AI. Allowing 3rd parties to build integrations will probably be the best outcome.

Read about the new pricing Model for Generative Fill (Adobe Beta is over) and then u know why Affinity can't give this Feature (Server ....)

@@IvoPoetzsch That is an additional point. Not sure how much of Affinity's user base wants to be connected to cloud servers. It is in opposition to many who want to own their software not through subscription models. However, likely within a year at the rate of AI improvement, local running AI is going to be far more efficient and easier to setup. This is will be great for plugin integrations and may be tough competition for Adobe.

@@dakara4877 A local AI would be conceivable, But at the moment, not even the subscription is the problem. I think Affinity users would pay for Affinity AI - but the bigger problem will be server capacity and the associated costs, plus I think it will take a lot of man power to program all the AI stories into it. What bothers me more is that they are thinking about keyboard shortcuts and not thinking about an effective vector trace function for Designer. But hey....we have here again an update for you....

All of the updates in this video work in Publisher. But Publisher also got Cross References. I didn't cover that in this video, but if Cross References are something that you want to use, you can check out the update on this page: affinity.serif.com/en-us/whats-new/

You can now limit "find and replace" to your whole document, your current spread, or your current selection. Could be nice under certain situations 😊

From what I've understood and read on their forum, Serif is completely missing out on AI, and has no plans to integrate it into their software. I think this is a big mistake, and they will suffer the consequences. It's just a matter of time. As much as I hate Adobe and their business model, I have to admit that their integration of AI tools is mind-blowing. I hope Serif will change its mind.

AI is great but it's a specialized area that requires a lot of investment and overhead. I think it would impact pricing which is one of Affinity's biggest strengths. To compete economically it might be best to partner with an AI market leader to develop paid plugins to get the best of both worlds.

Based on posts on the forum, seems they did hit a very large list of bug fixes for Publisher. Bug fix releases are really desperately needed. I wish they could do many more. I have bugs opened for years, still waiting.

I think 2.1.2 would be for bug fixes in 2.1. But since new features were added, they made it 2.2.

If that was the case, they may have had a unique, in-house method of managing naming conventions in version 1. However, as it is now is the method that's generally accepted as correct. If you Google 'Semantic Versioning' you'll come across the Semver v2 spec, which is the standard you'll see most developers following nowadays. While adhering to a rigid versioning convention isn't necessary, it allows for names that are predictable, readable, searchable, and generally just understandable. Using an established system like Semver allows other developers (and software) to understand the intent of the update, since it's extremely common and doesn't leave too much room for guesswork.

1.10.6 was the last update for Affinity Photo Version 1. Affinity Photo Version 2 is a paid upgrade, and will get you all the 2.x updates for free. If you want to get Version 2, I recommend you wait until Black Friday. I bet they will have a sale 🙂

Can we set affinity to stay on inches. We need tutorials set up photo designer, video, etc showing best way to set them up inc color. Where is safe place to get color swatches free designer fonts. Easiest way to change pdf to transparent background for print n cut I think they’re called vector. Cricut software refuses my efforts to change pdf files…

Adobe forces you to RENT software. You stop paying, it stops working. Affinity does not do this. The Affinity suite may not match feature for feature with Adobe, but it is very solid nonetheless. That is why so many of us have said goodbye to Adobe, forever.

I really don't understand why this is a NEW version. It changes nothing. And the update is the smallest in ages for a new version ever. Seems like they wanna reach 2.10 by the end of 2024 and release paid version 3.0. Its not a new version. I'll simply call it 2.1.2 as it really is.

I don't know Affinity's full business strategy, but at least something to note is that we don't know when Version 3 will be released. We might get a version 2.thirteen, 2.fourteen, or even higher. We'll just have to wait and see. 🤷‍♀️

@@AffinityRevolution Funny cuz literally the same messages I red in Affinity forum two years ago after 1.10 was released. And all the people were saying "we don't know mb we will have 1.11, 1.12 and so on and bla bla bla". And it never happen. After 1.10 we got some small updates with fixes mostly and after that we got 2.0. So, we know what is gonna happen after 2.10. And its 3.0.
