Tiny Dragon what are your overall thoughts on the dimension basses? In my eyes they don't seem to have caught on at all, but to be fair it's obviously really difficult to convince professionals to try something like this
@TinyDragon
@TinyDragon 4 жыл бұрын
KingDavid sorry I just now see this. I love Fender in general. To be fair I have many types of basses including Fender traditional basses and other brands. My collection of basses can be seen in my videos on my channel (maybe from March or April of last year). Most are the higher end, so I have a healthy perspective on this bass. It is hands down my favorite bass. It is not a music man stingray like others have said. Yes there is an HH config and the ability to select pickups with the blade... but it has way more tonal variety than a musicman IMO. It can go from slap to pick to finger style easily. What makes this bass is that tonal ability and the NECK. I can’t say enough about the feel of this bass. The neck is compound radius. 9.5 to 12 smooth and fast playing. The neck is substantial so you feel like you are playing a bass, but it is thinner on the treble side and thicker on the bass side. It’s asymmetrical. Lays beautifully in the hand. This bass is a tonal beast, and comfy like your fave pair of worn jeans. The only thing I wish it had was a passive active pull switch so if the batteries were running low (18v) then it could be popped into passive mode quickly. They also needed a better color pallet to market it imo. In the deluxe American version there was a cayenne red, natural, rootbeer (very very rare), and a violin burst. There may have been a black one but that was it.

4stringz hell yes agree with you. Wish there was a renewed interest. I have 5 of these basses - 2 are American deluxe in rootbeer color which you can not find - few were made. I even have one of the prototypes of this bass... picked it up late last summer from a guy in Fender development!

This Bass is essentially the URGE 3, Stuart Hamm had the Urge and Urge 2 custom basses that look A LOT like this Dimension bass, Fender has a Harley Davidson problem, they cant make anything new because older fans only want a "real" Fender, and to them a real.fender is a P bass that has paint missing and only 1 pickup for $1200, just like HD fans who only want a shakey, oil leaking hardtail with chopped fenders and a loud exhaust, Fender fans need to let Fender stretch its design legs, or else like HD, their customer base will die off, taking the company with them.

I love Fender American deluxe Basses , It would be cool if Fender would produce a V string in precision and 24fret dimension and let bass players test them out to get an analysis on what bass players like . But also get a survey going on the colors that are popular to include hardware. Fender is the greatest bass out there.

I'm looking at the V string, being offered in 2023 used, but it has a completely different tuner arrangement -- all 5 on one side, much smaller keys. I see this on a number of instruments available, but most are the 4/1 arrangement shown here. Is the one-sided version a different model, and if so, what is the model designation?

@TheSoxmania
@TheSoxmania 9 жыл бұрын
bassman1029 that's true... there are similarities in all his designs, from the headstock shape right down to the finicky things, like the tonal qualities... there's a certain range with the designs for Fender guitars and basses that make you think "Yep... that's a Fender" when you hear it... and the same goes for the Dimension... there's a slight tonal similarity to the Precision and Jazz basses with the rest of the punch coming off that behemoth of a pickup!! then a Leo thing in general... the tone is warm and well balanced... I haven't seen many companies nail that behaviour like Fender does! (Gibson and Yamaha are the only others to deliver some good grunt that I know of!)

Forget the Stingray comparisons - do a search for the Gibson Victory bass, and compare. And for all you folks talking about how Leo Fender designed the Stingray - yes, he did, after he sold off the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. There's no connection at all between the Stingray bass and Fender corporation. Good luck to Fender with this one. Looks nice overall.

fender I hope you are listening.after years of searching for the ideal 5 string bass, I discovered the deluxe dimension V H. I think the neck and the B string are as good it gets in a 5 string 34 scale. however, there were many quality control issues on every new dime I played (at least a dozen)-misaligned dots on neck, bridges that run out of travel etc. it seemed that I could not find a perfect new specimen anywhere, at the price point, I was expecting much more. I finally gave up after searching for 6 months; I realized that you didn't build them very well compared to similar priced basses. I discovered G&L and thank God because my L2500 blows away the Dime that I thought was the holy grail bass and that's saying something. its no wonder you stopped making them-no one will dish out 2500CAN for a bass that has consistent flaws that a squire wouldn't have. its too bad because I would have bought several.

I used to think the same thing but being a Fender fan (2 P basses, 1 PB&J bass, 1 J bass, 1 Kingman bass and a strat) I decided to give the Dimension a try the Dimension is the one I play all the time now... The neck is perfect, the weight, and the sound!! How long until they start loading the P and/or J basses with the humbucker pups in them. HOLY SHIT this is one awesome bass. Your mileage may vary.

This review is for people looking for a new bass, please be civil if you don't agree with my opinion. Different people different opinions :) I saw some negative reviews and I think some people would like the opinion of someone who has own one for over 3 years. I can only talk about my bass which is a Fender Deluxe Dimension IV (made in Mexico) I was looking for a bass under 700 euros (800 usd), so I went to music shop and tried a jazz bass (mexico) as well as several basses from other brands within the budget. I took the Dimension because it was different than all the other basses. It's crisp when you play it load (but not as much as a Stringray) and mellow when you play soft. The pre-amp and pickup are very powerful. As a bassist I was always frustrated to be dependent on having a good sound engineer for the gigs; with this bass you will not have that problem. It can be very loud!! Once you learn to use the tone controls and add a good compression, you will like this bass. My goal was to have one bass to play different genres and I am happy to say this bass does the job. This is not a Stringray, nor a P Bass nor Jazz Bass. It's a DIMENSION bass fellows, and it's made for people who want something different. I really hope fender won't stop it's production due to some purist opinions/reviews :)

Fender needs flat radius necks like 12", 15" or 20" (for better pickups response and low action), new pickups position options and body as well. Also a little less alder bodie's and a little more ash, ebony or maple bodies. 35" scale basses are a great option, and more frets. And finally the answer to EB/MM would be the possibility to make new pickups like soap bar but with that fender tone or maybe a one piece P bass pickup (not split) the result is a p bass tone with jazz bass responde.

I saw one of these at Guitar Center when I went to pick up my J-Bass, had obviously never heard of it. It was the model with only on humbucker at the bridge. My first thought was, of course, a Stingray. I think it's a great idea, though. Some people simply don't like MM basses, but love Fenders. This gives them another nice option. Now, would I ever buy one? No, that neck looks fat and uncomfortable, but I can still respect them
