I own this bass. I will say that this is one of the most versatile bass in the price range. Feels amazing. I'm studying bass performance in the US and I can get funk, jazz, latin, rock, basically any style from the pickup selection and EQ control. I can play Tower of Power and then switch to a blues progression to a thumpy jazz line to laying down chords with just a few tweaks. The video even made me uncomfortable with how unconfident they are with it (sorry guys. love the other vids). But it really is Fender's response to the modern bassist. Give it a try if you're on the fence

Awesome reviews! I've watched tons of KZfaq videos on bass (and alike) and I love this format! The overwhelming majority of other reviews are over commercialized or amateurish! You folks have hit a middle thats informative, with the right amount of tech data, thats entertaining. Keep it up!

I just picked up a near perfect Fender Dimension for under $400 from GC. Not too popular when they were in production, they are now sought after. Great sounding bass. Get one while you can, you'll be glad you did.

I think people misunderstood this bass, to me sounds more like a modern Pbass than a Jazz or a Stingray.

I wouldn't necessarily say the Dimension is an attempt to make a StingRay-like instrument, so much as it is an attempt to continue the smaller body style American Deluxe Jazz Bass, which has been switched to the full-size Jazz body in recent years. I really like the Dimension, and I think that it might be my next bass. Currently, my main bass is a fretless piezo StingRay, and while my preference would be a fretted piezo StingRay, I would love the Dimension, as well. Ever since I sold my 1992 Fender Jazz Bass Plus V in 2012, which introduced the smaller Jazz body style, I've been without a fretted bass.

My first bolt-on Bass that drew me away from my Neck-Through, Multiple Woods aka “Hippy Sandwich” 6-string was also a ‘92 Fender Jazz Plus V, but back in 2002 during what I call my “Mid-Bass Crisis” 😂. While it convinced me that more “simple” Wood selection and the attack of a bolt-on was “the sound” of Bass I’d been hearing in my head, I eventually sold the Jazz Plus V as the B-string response was simply too weak... both as an Open String as well as in the C, C# & D range. Eventually I found the two Basses that absolutely fit me: the Spector “Euro Bolt-On” 4 & 5 DLX FM/EX aka “ReBop” line with Custom Specs from Spector, and Custom Mike Lull Modern 4, 5 & PJ/J5-24, of which the Modern 5 is as close to a modern “Jazz Plus V” with its downsized body, choice of Alder or Ash and fantastic Pickups & Preamp (which the JPV came both in wood-wise as well as having *fantastic* Pickups & Preamp like the JPV had for a Bass made in 1992... 😉). I’d truly suggest trying one out to get a “modern feeling” of the Jazz Plus V from back when...

Captain! Learn about your basses! J-Bass has a thinner neck at the nut, P-Bass has a thicker neck at the nut. The High Mass bridge is similar to the vintage style Badass bridges people used to switch out from the vintage Fender "thinner" (low mass, weaker) bridges.

Holy shit! I don't even play bass (I'm a sound engineer), but I've been looking for my 'best bass' for a while now, and I never heard of this thing before, but this kicks the trusty old jazz from 1st place as being the all-time favorite! I hear a great mix of the best elements from the 4 most popular basses. On top of that, it also has an EQ that actually IS useful/musical! (mostly contrary to the Stingray, in my not so humble opinion...)

It's actually not really true that Fender has never departed from the Jazz Bass and Precision Bass body styles. In 1990, Fender introduced the Jazz Bass Plus series, which utilized a brand-new, downsized body which was markedly different to the original Jazz Bass design, and much nicer, in my opinion. That smaller body remained in production through 2009, in the American Deluxe series, so it had a 30 model year long run, and you can still buy it from Warmoth as the Deluxe 5J. For 2010, Fender reverted to the original Jazz Bass design.

Going by the description I think that this bass has enough extra to justify its higher price tag but I think I would be more likely to go for the Jazz bass Modern Player even though that lacks a lot of the switching and active EQ.

could you do a review of different bass multieffect pedals? I want to keep my bass gear clean simple so huge pedalboard is not ideal for me. Only thing what I REALLY need on a gig is tuner pedal but if there is a good solution to do more with this days multieffects, it could open nice artistic options for me.

Fender messed up with the mim versions. The pickups they made for those were poor. They didn't sell well and, mim being the leading sellers on all models, Fender just called a mulligan on the whole line.

The Pickguard looks just like the Stuart Hamm Fender Urge 2 from the 1990s, it's a good looking bass, great tone and I would buy one but I play fretless and a fretless "Jaco" style fretboard would turn this amazing bass into my bass, I like it because it's different from the P bass and the J bass.

My wife has 4 Dimension basses, 2 American Deluxe & 1 American Standard. She prefers them to her MM Stingray basses. Lee, Is Fender discontinuing these? I noticed that they have renamed the American Deluxe Dimension to the Dimension Elite.......

I had been considering getting an American Standard Dimension Bass for a long time, but when I finally got around to actually trying to purchase it a few weeks ago, I found that it was gone from Fender's website and many sellers. I eventually found the model I wanted (Bass IV HH - Ocean Blue Metallic, maple fingerboard) on Amazon, of all places; I got one of the last ones. I think Fender stopped making the American Standard and Deluxe so that people would be more inclined to go for the new Elites, which are great... but more expensive. So far I'm digging the Dimension. The pickups are a bit hot for a passive bass, but they sound great otherwise.

In your webshop one can buy a Squier Deluxe Dimension IV Bass for 284. Save while stock last, it says! And it was 273.... Wow, now that's a deal.......! Another bass was 302, and now it is 302 on sale while stock last. Fantastic! :p

There are certain brands that are known for lasting longer then others (“D’Addario XL Nickels”, for example) or you can look into coated strings are are far less thick than when they first came out, but keep that “slightly worn in” tone for a much longer time. ...as for an endorsement, get famous. No short-cuts there. 😉

If you are having issues with a lacquered neck on a bass being sticky then technically You Are Doing It Wrong. You really arent supposed to be choking the neck of a bass. Your thumb should be the only thing pressing the back of the neck so when you move you shouldn't really have much resistance at all.

Great Job, guys, NOT! Sales pitch? To start, you repeatedly pound the idea that it is a copy of another company's champion model, instead of saying it is a new model from the company that made the first bass guitar in 1951 and is ubiquitous to all of music when it comes to making bass guitars. Next, you go on to infer that that can't really give them away, even with a case and goodies, at the same price point of the iconic P and J. I wouldn't send this one off to Fender. I can pretty much guarantee they wouldn't dig it much. The bass does have a voice of its own; and although it is def similar to its well-known sales adversary, it does have a Fender Logo, a cool set of pups and wiring structure, and it is def different from any other model out there. Makes me wanna go out and buy one.

I actually hate traditional models of Fender... Same designs of 50 years ago!!! I'm really obsessed with this model since I knew existed, the only problem I see it's they're not having 24 fretts anyway when fender makes a different model it disappears like Steve Bailey's signature model.

Did anyone else notice around the 14:40-ish part of the video that the 5 strings truss rod cut out on the neck looked like it was hogged out by those Chinese fake builders? Minor thing but I'd expect better from a $1600 instrument

can anyone tell me why is it when i try to slap on my bass, it sounds like an Ice pike got stuck in my ear, certain notes in my amplifier come out so loud that i kill a bird 2 miles away from my house... im not bad i just have a volume spike so high that you wish you were 2 miles away from my house

You may want to invest in a compression pedal, that will help even out your dynamics!

The sales failure of these basses doesn't surprise me. The US is notoriously resistant to deviations from the established norm. Even though this is, quite honestly, a fantastic bass. Its only problem is it's not a P or a J... Fortunately the generation that cling to tradition for the sake of tradition is dying off 👍👍
