webcajun Very true thats like when I was a teenager my parents didn't just give me a new car we were not that rich.My frist car was pulled home and the motor didn't run and I rebuilt it all myself and I enjoyed that more and appericated way more than i could have if it was new and just handed to me.So everything I work hard and get planted is a nice acomplishment.P.S my left foot I had surgery on 20 years ago this october hurts and lets me know it haha.Thanks paul

David Dube I was never impressed with the idea of raised beds until I built a couple and started using them. Now I’m only growing stuff that takes up lots of room in the regular garden and everything else in the beds. I built them 20 inches tall which works out great for me……Donald

Johnny Fontenot Hadn’t had a chance to run small seeds through it yet. The seeder itself is built like the original seeder attachment which did handle mustard green (small seeds) really well so I don’t see a problem. My guess would be you may need to thin em out but I’d rather do that than replant skips….Donald

I like the way the seeds plants are setup and that you can actually drill you own for specific seeds and spacing. I would definitely recommend it…..Donald

Thank you. I planted out my tomatoes (San Marzano's) 1 May this year. In less than 9 days they doubled in size. "Great" I'm thinking... Yesterday I noticed a little yellowing to the leaves of a few and the runt of the patch...Every leaf on it is up-turned and a little spotty. Because I'm using raised beds for the 1st time I'm keeping a real close eye on moister. They're needing watering about every three days. So I don't think it's that issue. The soil is the "three equal parts" Square Foot Method blend. And only after 10 days I doubt soil nutrition is a problem. Could it be Yellow Mosaic after only ten days? I did pick up a little aphid issue because of a Christmas Rose plant right next to the bed but I took care of that. I'm a little short of ideas on what it could be... Any help you might offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanx Donald.

R W Glavin Since I don’t use sprays for disease my method is simple and probably not what you’re looking for. If I think a plant is diseased and may infect the others, I pull it and get it out of there. About the only thing I’ll spray for is bugs and that’s using Liquid Sevin. Sorry, I know this isn’t much help……Donald

ArmindaHeart I’ve watched the film and was impressed. The problem I see is the length of time (years) it would take before being ready to plant. It’s also my understanding that adding un-composted material to a garden robs needed nitrogen from the soil. I just have too many unanswered questions about this method……Donald

ArmindaHeart Put wood chips and sawdust in a separate compost pile and let it decompose there for 2 or 3 years. It will safely break down. You can then add it to your garden. If you put wood directly in your garden you are starving your plants of nutrients, particularly nitrogen.

webcajun This season, I simply spread the wood chips around my plants, on my pathways, and, well, everywhere. If you don't till your soil, it won't rob the soil of nitrogen. But there are even debates on that matter, whether it really does deplete the soil. The chips are supposed to return nutrients to the soil over time if you don't disturb it by tilling. But My plants are looking amazing so far! I just dig down the few inches of wood chips I placed down and the soil is moist, there is activity under there with the little worms and other guys digesting it, and I hardly ever have to water. It's really cool. So next year, I'll just rake away where I want to plant (put down some compost/soil if needed) and pop the seeds in. When they're big enough, I'll cover their bases up with the wood chips. I've mulched with several inches of hay too, which works the same way, but you can till that in. It helps with moisture retention, weeds, and the buggies love it. Basically, I hate weeds and I live in California, so mulching is a must for me :)

webcajun Oh! and over the season, you wouldn't have to till because the wood chips really loosen up the soil by themselves, allowing plant roots to go down deep.

You are wasting your money with an Earthway. $90 for something that doesn't work is no bargain compared to something that is $300 and works.

$1 a saved and some change you can have it by thanksgiving/Christmas! Gardening teaches you patience so saving $1 a day shouldn’t be too hard.
