I lived there in the 90s, when I was working at St. Joseph Hospital. It was bad, but I did not get robbed or hurt fortunately. Paterson had a great industrial manufactoring history during WW2 , but everything is gone by now.

Paterson is surrounded by nice towns & they all loathe having Paterson as a neighbor. People from that town are perceived negatively. Any time you hear of a crime occurring in Passaic or Bergen County, it's usually someone from Paterson or Newark. They take pride in having a bad reputation. People can disagree but I was born & raised in Passaic County, just speaking from personal observation & what others have said.

I am originally from here and moved out in 2014. I recall it being much dirtier before. I visited recently and paterson looks much better. There used to be groups of guys on every corner and now if you go, you dont really see that!, the area by library looks much better and so does around the hospital.

This town doesn't look so bad, I've seen worse. Looks like many houses have siding and paint to modernize them. Lots of cars on the streets shows newer vehicles. The down side is more liquor stores than grocery stores and lots of trash in the streets from littering. Most of these odd buildings have three stories and posibly a basement apartment. Appears they are early 20th or late19th Century constructions, pre car, no garages. I would imagine in the warmth of summer many folks would be outside.

NJ has the highest median household income in all the US, We have older cities like Paterson and Newark that have problems but it's mostly a great place to live. Great beaches, restaurants, shopping, the GIants and the Jets in Bergen County, access to NYC, lots of diversity. It's expensive to live here so it's hard if you are poor. I drive through Paterson and find it mostly safe. Go visit the Great Falls which is amazing and a few blocks from where you were filming,

I'm not even from Paterson but I almost got killed there numerous times. Don't even get me started on Newark. I'm from NYC but I lived in Jersey for years and did a lot of construction work all over Newark, Irvington, East Orange, Paterson, Passaic etc. witnessed numerous broad day shootings and murders including the next door neighbors to one of the homes we were working, got shot right there. I've heard Newark is safer than it was 20 years ago but I dunno. To many bad memories. People living in those communities have way to much trauma. People deserve better.

They're also plagued with crime, drugs and gang activity. Paterson is an open air drug market. I would know I was a drug dealer and an addict. Was in the trenches of Paterson every day. it definitely is especially on the East Coast. Philadelphia is a perfect example of this. West Philly is brutal but if you just keep heading west a little further...Mansions and stupid wealth. Gladwyne, Radnor, Media etc. Allentown, PA and Reading PA are great examples too in comparison because they parallel the size of Patterson NJ. In NJ alone, Trenton and Camden are solid comparisons. it's almost like an invisible line is drawn on a particular street.

It's a small city. It's actually not that bad.. They have a strong immigrant community, with solid work ethics. The schools are not that good, by New Jersey standards, but by the standards of some other states, not that bad. I have friends there, have never felt unsafe. Their neighborhood is quiet, lots of young families and some older folks. People keep an eye one things. It's similar, in that way, to where I grew up.

Order. Low crime rate. Yes, not everything is perfect, but there are great prospects for business and it is easier to start and achieve some success here, because there is no competition like in the US.
