Until learning about the e-clutch my first choice for my next bike was the Suzuki GSX-8S. Now it is the CB650R with e_clutch as long as it is available in the US market. Fingers crossed - I want one of these!!!

My Smart diesel car has an automatic gearbox change that work in a similar way, auto, soft change and a paddle change.

I would use it as an option. I had the Gold Wing with DCT and that was even better, but yes : the weight ... although on a 383 kg weighing machine you hardly feel the difference compared to a conventional gearbox.

i once have a vision that when the bike is on stationary but in the gear 1, the engine doesn't stall even if we full release the clutch. 😂😂

Have you ever hear about underbone motorcycle in South East Asia? They have semi-automatic transmissions, which are combined from an automatic drive clutch (swing type clutch) and a manual shift clutch (dics type clutch) with a 4-speed sequential gearbox. Those bikes can standstill even when both clutches and gear are engaged. Search "honda cub", "honda wave", "honda blade", "yamaha sirius", "suzuki viva",... for more information.

A shifter doesn't separate the clutch, it only shutoff the ignition for a brief instant. Eclutch does separate the clutch, like you'd do with your hand lever. The question is, do we have to shut the gas off while using the eclutch, and does it work on downshifting at high speed without blipper, without destroying the engine, gearbox or the clutch. I can't find the answer.

At the end, it surely only usable for low rev, low speed, and stop. You surely have to use your regular lever when shifting at high rev, higher speed.

​@@RemopIn the reveal video, there's a rider launching the CB from the standing still position. You can clearly see his right hand almost didn't move at all while shifting gears, which lead me to guess the E-Clutch adjusted the RPM automatically for rev-matching.

Sorry, but to me if your not impaired I just don't see the point of it, as it doesn't take any task from the rider. Clutching with buttons vs clutching with a lever, it's additional complexity and weight to solve a non-problem ? I'd never pay money for a quickshifter for the same reason. Manufacturers would be better to put their efforts into fitting real suspension to mid-weight (300cc) scooters. They're way more practical than motorcycles, but are being held back by their really poor suspension over modern rough roads. Take a Yamaha XMAX 300 for a 1,000 km weekend. The economy, storage, engine and transmission are great, but the suspension sucks big time.

I like shifting manually but not with the foot. I would prefer paddle shifting on the handlebar.

Yamaha has it on the FJR1300. As an option. With automatic clutch. For already like 20 years. Nothing new or revolutionary about this Honda E-Clutch 🙂

You are still manually shifting with your foot. I suffer from damaged tendons in my left hand from years of riding. This could help me hang on to my manual transmissions as long as my legs hold out! Plus, you still have the ability to use the hand clutch as normal. It’s literally the best of both worlds and only adds 2kgs to a model. What’s not to like?
