Brand new Toro Snow Blower! I was hoping to use this Power Max 828 that Toro sent us a lot this winter. I wasn't expecting to get a lake effect snow storm on November 2nd! Awesome opportunity to try this new Toro. It exceeded my expectations - easily cutting through 10-18 inches of snow. This was a heavy, wet snow. The Toro Power Max had no problem!
The LED Headlight provided impressive light, during the dark morning.

It’s always a good idea to have multiple snow fighters. I have a tractor, snow blower and a plow for my truck. Snow equipment is probably the least maintained of any and when you need it you need it. If your lawn mower breaks down your lawn doesn’t get mowed big deal. If you can’t get to work or emergency vehicles can’t get through that’s an actual problem.
@PurpleCollarLife

Great point! We don't have a plow for the F350, but that would be awesome. We do have the bucket on the John Deere 2210, a plow for the Honda Foreman, and the Toro Power Max. I like to use each for different purposes, but you're right that when fighting snow, equipment redundancy is a great philosophy!

@@PurpleCollarLife I don't blame you for wanting big snow. A big part of my job here in the midwest is making sure 680 RR switch locations are clear of ice and snow on a couple thousand mile of mainline track. I could stand to not have much snow, even though I love it. :) PS we use one million BTU gas fired heaters to melt the snow and ice. Called switch heaters.

It's always a good idea to keep your cutting edge up high the first couple times to get a good hard pack started on a gravel driveway. It's easier on my plow shoes and I can adjust my snowblower down closer to the ground without worrying about picking up rocks.

Make sure you have a bunch of shear pins on hand! We used a snow blower on our gravel driveways for about three years and finally gave up. We found that the snow blowers just didn't work for us no matter how we set the thing It would throw rocks -- which was manageable -- but occasionally it would jamb-up and break the sheer pins. Our solution was to hire one of the the local plow guys to plow the drives, and we hand shovel the little bit that's left. It costs less than $100.00 per year for us to hire someone -- usually $60.00 -- with zero machine cost, storage, or maintenance.

I own an Ariens Deluxe with the larger engine and I love it. The dealer where I bought it carries Ariens and Honda machines. The salesman was honest and didn't try to "steer me" in any direction. I compared the Ariens feature-for-feature with a similar Honda model. The Honda was nearly $1,000 more. Honda DOES make good products but you definitely pay a premium for the name.

@@roberttheurer6719 I'm not an expert, but I'd suggest a few things: 1: make sure your tires are equally inflated on both sides. 2: make sure the skid shoes are level with each other. 3: Switch out the skids for the plastic ones that are available and won't scratch the cement. www.homedepot.com/p/Toro-Poly-Skid-Shoe-Kit-for-Toro-2-Stage-Snow-Blowers-38211/203747884

@@PurpleCollarLife from what I know i did both of those things . Although as soon as I can get some one to loosen the nut I guess I can raise the shoe ever so slightly and maybe that would take care of it. But, i still wonder why its pulling to the right. Thanks for your response.
@PurpleCollarLife
@PurpleCollarLife 3 жыл бұрын
@@roberttheurer6719 My best guesses on the pulling to the right issue was that the left tire was more inflated than the right, or that the one skid was a little lower than the other. Other than that, I'm baffled. :)

At first I was like, "No cleanout tool? Does their anti-clog system work *that* well?" But then I see they got it wedged between the handle bars. Clever hiding spot. One thing I wish more blowers would do is have a little tool box on them, specifically for shear bolts and a couple wrenches, if needed. I only ever saw one with that feature and I think it was a really old ('80's?) MTD. It had a little toolbox molded right into the plastic belt cover.

I've never needed to use the clean out tool. The anti-clog system works great in my experience. And I love not needing shear bolts! I wouldn't want to be changing out bolts in the cold snow.
@l337pwnage
@l337pwnage 3 жыл бұрын
@@PurpleCollarLife Does Toro still not use shear bolts? I know in the past they didn't, I think partly because it would be such a pain with their old metering augers. The clean out tool could a be a government requirement now, I don't know. I bought the "deluxe" one for my Ariens. It has the scoop end, a scraper end, and a brush. I use it to brush down the blower every time I'm done with it.

Greetings from Wisconsin! Great video, imagine if it was cold out, you'd of had feet to blow! I'm in the market for a walk behind blower to compliment my big new 68" rear mount for my L2501. I'm Between a Toro and an Ariens. I'm leaning towards an Ariens fastback, because I like the text adjustment ability from tracks to wheel mode for my different slopes around my property, (plus they're made here in Wisconsin!) Either way I'm sure I'd be happy. My old troybilt threw a ton of snow in 10yrs, but my exwife needed a blower, and I'm a good guy. (Plus it gives me a chance to get a new toy!) I know the whole get things cleared out before work deal. I was up one night at 1:30am clearing huge 3-5ft drifts with my tractor so I could get to work, only problem was the county quit plowing until 9am because of the winds, so I could only get out to my road and no farther. Lol. Gotta love winter! I hear we might even get one this year.

I have seen lots of videos on the Toro and Ariens snow bowers. They definitely seem to be the two best brands out there. I've seen videos about the Craftsman, Honda and other brands, and I'm not impressed with those brands of snow blowers. I've never tried an Ariens personally, but I can tell you that the Toro works great for our needs. I do see why people with a slope would want the tracks. It makes sense. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
@Drewg351
@Drewg351 3 жыл бұрын
If you want a "track machine", definitely take a look at the Ariens RapidTrak. I spent months looking at Ariens, Honda, and the new Husky (last year). I ended up with the Ariens because of a few advantages, mostly the RapidTrak patented track system. You can move it around just like a "wheeled" machine, but have the unequaled "traction" of a track machine when you need it. I can move mine around my garage, powered off, almost as easily as any wheeled machine I've owned in the past. It turns just as easily as a wheeled machine, but has a little more "drag" because of the rubber tracks. I bought the 28" RapidTrak Pro which is built like a brick shit house weighing around 335 pounds, yet easy to maneuver. I see other manufacturers going to this concept eventually, perhaps after Ariens patent runs out. It truly is the "best of both worlds", with very little compromises.

Toro does also have a track model (new this year) with Hydrostatic transmissions. I would recommend you look at that to compare with the Ariens.

@@PurpleCollarLife Well, Honda and Yamaha are probably the two highest quality consumer grade walk behind snowblowers you can get, and this is coming from someone who had only owned Ariens, mostly because I don't what to take out a second mortgage on my house to buy a Honda, lol. Toro and Ariens, tho, I think are close to the best value. They have a wide selection of size, features, and price. You can get a stripped down Ariens for less than a decked out, say, Husquvarna, MTD, Troy-Bilt, Cub Cadet, Yard Machines, Briggs and Stratton, Jacobson, etc. et. al.(Those are are almost all made by the same company, or a few companies. That's why that all look alike) and you'll have a higher quality machine that will last longer. I could only really see getting a really cheap blower if you live in a place that doesn't even get snow every year. Then, as long as it's kept clean, even a cheap blower could last a lifetime.

Thanks! We really appreciate the like, comment, and if you'd subscribe! The machine stayed "grounded" really well. The auger moves fast enough to pull in the snow, and the machine is heavy enough to not ride up. Great question!

When you shift the shift handle, does the rod below move the lever up and down? When you push the drive handle down, does it feel like the "clutch" is trying to engage? Or is it just freely pressed with no resistance?

Did you find it twitchy go through the snow. I just returned a Toro 826 because I found it to light. You had to make constant corrections. If it hit compacted snow on one side it thought you were trying to turn and you had to make a correction. After 10 minutes i was exhausted.

Hi David. I don't feel like I've ever had that experience. I did notice that on very uneven ground, I need to make sure I'm pushing somewhat at an angle against the slope, otherwise it wants to track downhill. I'd consider this the same as a push mower - you're fighting the slope and gravity. I do know that in heavy snow, on uneven terrain - it can wear you down! Thanks for watching and commenting.

I have tried to set my 2019 Toro Power Max 826OAE on my leveled garage floor. After shoe skids were set even, I turned both wheels a half turn, skids were uneven. @@PurpleCollarLife last season I sent a complaint to Toro about my Toro drive slipped while moving forward, and engine surged under load. They asked me to bring it to Toro dealer for checking. @@PurpleCollarLife Yup, they come with a halogen bulb that throws out a yellowish light. If you want the bright, pure white light, you have to purchase the bulb from Ariens for $20, and install it yourself. That’s what I had to do for my Ariens Deluxe 28 SHO. It’s a pretty simple replacement, but it should be standard like Toro...since that’s their closest competitor. Ariens claims that their reason for going with the halogen bulb over a led, is because the halogen bulb generates heat, which will melt snow on the headlight. But I think we all know what the real reason is...make more money.🤑🤑🤑
