Let’s test drive and review the 2023 Toyota Prius Limited! This car is from the new fifth generation of the Prius, and it has a sticker price of $37,500.
No, this edition is not the Prius Prime. I’m sorry. It’s also not a plug-in hybrid - this Prius charges the battery while it drives, so you don’t have to worry about anything.
The Toyota Prius has long been the subject of undeserved criticism. It was THE hybrid car back in the day, and it was in the business of allowing conscious commuters to lower their fuel consumption on drives. But many others - including Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson - made fun of it. They thought it was boring, and they actually ridiculed its eco-conscious nature. Remember, this was back before that cultural wave when Tesla made electric cars (and electrified ones) cool.
The Prius evolved heavily over the generations, all culminating in this new car: a stylish, aerodynamic machine. With one redesign, the Prius made itself cool - at least among car enthusiasts. And in an era where everything is a hybrid (the Camry is hybrid-only now!), the Prius is less of an outlier and more of the norm.
In this video, we’ll go through the main parts of the new Prius: styling, comfort, acceleration, features, cargo space, the infotainment screen and system, and more.
Thanks for watching my KZfaq channel. Enjoy the drive!

Nice to have the camera person perspective as well, the points added to the video for sure. One minor critique. Just filming your reaction to these conversation points is a bit awkward. Humans are used to focusing on the speaker so when you stay focused a listener its just feels a bit odd. (I'm not sure if this is your partner that we know doesn't like being on camera so I'll just say person) If this person feels comfortable turning around the camera down the line great. If not I'd say keep paird footage to b role of the area they're talking about. Definitely like the addional point of view though keep up the great work.

Absolutely spot on assessment of Toyota. I held off buying on mainly for the interior…everything else is great about them. Ultimately, I went the Lexus route and am driving a GX. I’ve had a bunch of Toyotas over the years and as their Safety Sense technology has evolved, I’ve noticed the lane keep assist has gotten more pronounced. My last car (2023 Corolla) would beep whenever I dared get near a lane marker. It was overbearing at times. Great review, and 1.5 Alanis in the trunk is a good score!

The tiny steering wheel is a Prius trademark, my dad has a 2014 and I always grab at nothing while trying to parallel park it 😂 I think Toyota interiors are still pretty good, but Hyundai and Kia have been putting a lot more attention into their interiors to make up for their own shortcomings. Toyota historically cuts a lot less corners and I’ll take some cheap plastics over a car that could be a huge money pit in the future, but I do agree that Toyota has become a bit too comfortable sitting in top. I guess they need to give people a reason to step up to a Lexus

I know I'm supposed to hate it because I'm an enthusiast, but I'd rock this as a daily driver. I spend $300 a month going to/from work in either my fun truck or my fun car, but neither is fun in traffic. Obviously $27-37k buys a lot of gas, so it would take a long time to save with something like this, but if I'm ever in a position to buy a car specifically for commuting... sure why not?

It's kind of interesting because being a hybrid was always the Prius' thing. But now that hybrids are ubiquitous, Prius needs to establish an identity beyond just being a hybrid. The one thing that I would say in its favor is that if I WAS going to get a daily hybrid, I'd probably look here first just because it's the most mature. But honestly I'm not sure why I'd choose this over the Corolla hybrid.

I like that the review approaches the Prius for what it is. It is meant to be a comfortable, efficient commuter that finally looks pretty good, and is no longer dog-slow. Also, the larger discussion of Toyota interior and general quality of the brand going into the future is very much appreciated. I do hope they address this going forward, as well as take EVs more seriously than they seem to be doing right now. Besides the lack of range and other mechanical problems, the BZ4X should have looked more like this Prius. Thankfully, they have stepped up the design and driving feel in recent years in their newer ICE/hybrid vehicles. It seems around 07 or so, there was a long spell of lazy vehicles that really cheaped out on design, interiors, engineering, and innovation. Toyota/Lexus has turned a corner on that, coming out with some pretty compelling vehicles around the time they introduced this new Prius.

"Well, I'm here" 😂 I've never heard a better description of a Toyota interior. I felt the same way about my Sienna. Interesting that you found the lane keep assist to be good in the Prius because it is _TERRIBLE_ in my Sienna. It very frequently cannot pick up lane lines unless the car is very clean, and even then...sporadic at best. I've turned it off in my Sienna because of how infrequently it picks up lines that it's just not reliable

Five weeks ago we finally got our 2024 Prime (after a 21 month wait). It's our first plug-in Prius but our third Toyota hybrid. So, "the future" for "real" hybrid's as you say isn't plug-in? Both our first two cars returned around 4.5l per 100km for their entire service lives, outstanding. However, our 2024 plug-in will travel 80km on battery alone and then carry on past that (when the battery dies), at 4.5 or better. It's a rare day when we have to drive more than 80km at a single go. We can recharge the Prime from empty for $1.72 using electricity. We are currently paying $1.9199 a litre for regular gas (or, $7.2085 a USG). So, that equates to around 3.7 liters to drive 80km. That works out to spending $7.289 to drive 80km with gas compared to $1.72 with battery. Where's your future taking you............... We'll keep this car for ten years at least. Do the rest of your math on that yourself to find our savings over that time.

I agree with a lot of what you said, I find the Prius and the Corolla (Auris) extremely frustrating with each generation model. Each generation model was an improvement over the predecessor, better looking, improved refinement, safety kits etc... but the interior or the whole overall package is such a let down. This 5G Prius looks very nice on the outside, a DRASTIC improvement over the predecessor. When you start looking in the interior and most importantly, the usable space, it is so badly executed. Its the same story with the current gen Corolla, a DRASTIC improvement of exterior looks over the predecessor but rear leg room is non existent for passengers and get dismissed by those with families here in Europe. The trunk capacity is almost unusable with the 2L hybrid drive train, same goes for this Prius, its so narrow and shallow. On the other hand, go to a Kia and Hyundai showrooms, the exterior of their cars immediate grabs you and the interior do not disappoint either. The vast gain and improvement of the Korean brands in just over 2 to 3 generation of the same model is vastly superior than what Toyota have made in a Corolla or Prius. I would buy a Toyota or Lexus with my own money and keep it for 10+ years but not a Kia or Hyundai.

@@AlanisKing Your Hyundai from 12 years ago is probably, I'm guessing, from 2 to 3 generation ago of that particular model. Cars from back then were significantly simpler with fewer electronic circuits and modules and more mechanical meaning LESS to go wrong compared to the same model of the current gen on sale now. Add to this more plastic parts are used under the bonnet compared to metal to save cost (manufacturers would use the argument they use lighter materials to be fuel efficient...well yes they need to use lighter components elsewhere as they are now adding an electric motor and battery to make hybrids etc... ) Hyundai offers a 5 year unlimited milage warranty and Kia 7......not everything is covered, have to read the small prints, the owners will find out when things go wrong.
@mtfan
@mtfan Ай бұрын
Everyone complains about black plastic and interior quality, but at that price point the competitors with “better” interiors simply don’t hold up over the lifespan of the car as well as the black plastic does. It’s a question of short term quality vs long term quality, and Toyota is always going to make the long term choice.

Until the electric charging infrastructure is able to be appealing and reliable to people wanting an efficient vehicle, getting a HEV like this Prius or a PHEV model is a great alternative.
