New Years means Champagne! We are going to learn what are Grower Champagnes and how to buy and find Grower Champagnes.

Is it just me or is the NV Vilmart the best bang for your buck and way better than wines like Cliquot or those other brands?

What are some other important things to look for on labels other than RM, NM and year?

Humm.. I wonder how many NMs are actually RMs?

It’s one of the two. RMs have to own 95+% of the grapes, the rest is NM (there are alos other designations like CM, Ma etc.). Because of bad harvests (no reserve on their own vineyards) or new fillings (let’s say somebody wants to make a Rosé but only has Chardonnay) a lot of RMs switched to the NM category in recent years. NM provides a lot more flexibility - and many of them still are RMs at heart with 80-90% of their own grapes, just not making the strict 95% cut.
