Born and bred in NZ had my family goes back to the 18 century. You never get ahead there, I was doing 80 hours a week on salary, when I worked out how much I earned a hour was $12.50 a hour my friend on the benefit almost earned more than me. Best decision I ever made was moving to Australia 15 years ago, after the earthquakes in Christchurch, with the rebuild, I saw 2 bedroom house for sale for $550,000. Who the hell can afford that. Cost of living is so expensive. I would hate to think what it is now.

Dina, Kiwi here who agrees with everything you said in your video! I have a question about Germany - I am learning the language (currently B1) and want to do my master's there post-covid. My question is about working while studying to cover costs. Are there many part-time jobs there in your opinion? I don't have the money to cover costs while studying. Thank you for your thoughts :)
@millennialimmigrant56003 жыл бұрын
Hi Katrina, I don’t have personal experience with searching a part time job in Germany, but I see there are postings for student jobs and overall part time jobs are common in Germany. Plus the study system is different to NZ, in Germany you mostly need to submit a project or do an exam at the end of semester, and don’t have to really do much or go to lessons in between which is good if you are working. So i think it’s doable but still would be a challenge to be fully self sufficient with only part time job. Maybe consider to apply for some scholarship. :)
@lukashufner185 Жыл бұрын

not sure what's scary:) from my understanding recruitment agencies are usually little help in the process of getting visa. their clients are employers, not employees. so unless a person has unique skills their client wants and they cant find such person elsewhere, i dont think they will be very helpful. good job done. some of personal opinion: the definition of net migration: number of people move in less number of people move out. however it should be: number of people come in less number of people come out. many students, works, travelers etc they don't come to stay, they only come to visit. the true migrates are people applying for nz residency and this process takes 1-2 years each application. this is a long and slow process and only a few are approved each year.

Hi Dina , first of all thank you for your honest opinion , really appreciate it , and to be straight forward actually i m always having an idea for settling down in New Zealand once i finish my degree ( occupational therapist) . Since young i tends to hav a good impression on NZD due to the work life balance n the slower pace then Singapore anyway would appreciate if could hav an honest advice whether to move to NZD once i graduated ? Thank you! Basically my reason to NZD actually bcos 1. Work life balance 2. To hav a better pay than in other country 3. Get some different experience 4. Lastly, only decide to stay for long term
@millennialimmigrant56003 жыл бұрын
hi there, it is hard to give such advise. I can only say in general if you can immigrate for example to australia directly, I would do that, as you more likely will have more opportunities there. And lots of immigrants to new zealand eventually move to australia after getting new zealand passport. New Zealand is a very small country, the salaries are not that high there comparing to the costs, and I personally did not have a work life balance, living in NZ. Plus it is now take years to become resident in new zealand as the residency applications are massively delayed.

You have to save for 20 years for the first deposit in Toronto. | Have you come across a place with bedbugs in NZ? | I know they have blinds in the windows in Cuba. I guess Kiwis think NZ is as warm. 😁 | Same thing in Canada: you move there for the nature and then you end up living there without seeing the nature because you either have no time for it or you can't afford it (international flights are cheaper than domestic ones).

Regarding the shortage skill lists, how easy is for people with these skills (obtained in a developing country) to get a job?
@millennialimmigrant56004 жыл бұрын
I looked up the list. I'd say for a chef or of course ICT specialist its possible to get a job with foreign qualification as I saw many examples, but I would imagine for health professional they would still require some sort of local re-qualification, yet I am not an expert, so factcheck :) regarding "easy" it depends on luck, e.g. some IT people come and find job within month with tourist visa, others can struggle for lots of months even after finishing local courses...

As a Kiwi, I don't want to disagree with the majority of the video content; I think everybody has to really look hard before changing country. But couple of things seem like misunderstandings rather than real issues about living here. One is that the comment about people renting 'can't even hang a picture hook'. New regulations have fixed this and tenants have right to make minor changes. Pets may not be allowed in a rental, but the comment about friends not being allowed to visit or stay is odd. Nobody has restrictions on people visiting if you rent. This lady was renting in Parnell.. a nice and very expensive suburb in Auckland, though NZ houses are badly built as a whole. I can't disagree with the opinion expressed in this video ; everybody has the right to their own opinion, but couple of the facts stated really don't seem right

@@shamsudinbahrudin570 Hai. I used to work in KL for a bit in 2018/2019, so know a little bit about what it would be like. Everything will seem more expensive if coming to NZ. Malay people also find NZ cold; but I know some enjoy having proper seasons including some hot days in summer rather than just hot and humid all year around. NZ English is also a little bit different from UK English and Malay English, but something that can be picked up when you live in a place. Food can be a challenge as well - Malaysia is rightly famous for tasty cheap street food, but NZ food - while it can be have high quality ingredients, is expensive and unlike KL where you can get food anytime at night, in NZ most places are shut down relatively early . But if your son can bank some NZ dollars (was ~3 ringgit for 1 NZ$), then he can return to Malaysia with good experience and money.

@@michelledsouza8649 If you are not absolutely in love with new zealand (i.e. want to live on remote island and hike away and don't care about anything else) and rather just want to immigrate to a developed country to have a good level of live, I would advise against immigrating to new zealand. I would better consider other countries for example Australia and Canada. The costs of education I think would be about the same, but those are big countries and offer more opportunities. And if you are ok with learning a language other than english you can consider for example germany or other european country , as you can do your master in marketing in English for free, have german courses also for free and there is a also a limited english job market, but better to know the language of course. New zealand is tiny, the job opportunities are limited, and almost everyone I met found job through connections. Regarding PR I have a video how I got it, while it wasn't easy for me, comparing to the current rules it was a walk in a park. I cant predict how it will be in future, but I dont expect it being better, as on the news all I hear was "immigrants that immigrants this", and immigration being the biggest "problem" whenever there is an election, like there are no other more important problems. You know that now people have to wait almost a year to only be assigned an officer for PR application. www.wsws.org/en/articles/2020/07/20/nzmi-j20.html All my friends I met in new zealand have already left or actively contemplating to leave to other countries. And I also already immigrated to other country. Just my personal opinion :)

@@millennialimmigrant5600 Can't thank you enough Dina for being absolute honest and granting me clarity. Well, I am surely going to rethink on my decision now and hopefully make a wise move. However, I am really curious - Why would you migrate to another country if you have already received your NZ PR? I am assuming it has to do something with the job opportunities?

Yeh I have Nz citizenship already and I had good job by nz standards .. Its nonsense that Kiwis have to rent most of their lives! I guess you don't own a house obviously!
@millennialimmigrant56003 жыл бұрын
yes I do not own a house in new zealand. are you trying to shame me with that XD lived in new zealand for 7 years, met many kiwis, most of them were renting in their 20th, 30th, 40th, and some ven in 60th (white it was different for older generation). the ones who were able to buy a house only did so with the help of their parents. even your PM is trying to address the problem saying "Ardern said she didn't want home ownership in New Zealand to be determined by whether or not your parents for instance, can lend you a deposit." Plus check out official statistics on housing. so if you have an urge to hate on truth, then start with your government that made housing unaffordable for ordinary hard working people without parents, who already own a house.

Most Kiwi's have their lives bankrolled by their parents and just hang around waiting for the inheritance. For the record I do my own my own and still think this country is a 3rd world shithole and counting the days till I leave.

Too many immigrants in NZ now, and no housing so KIWIS are living in tents and cars
@millennialimmigrant56002 жыл бұрын
not too many immigrants rather too few houses ... cuz if more houses will be built, the prices for existing houses will decrease ... and the rich people in new zealand do not want it ... please dont be delusional - immigrants are just used by politicians as scapegoats in order to blame and protect their own interests

@@millennialimmigrant5600 You're actually not a Kiwi so have ZERO idea as to what you are talking about, NZ has had unsustainable immigration for over a decade without the infrastructure and resources to cope now we see KIWIS living in tents and cars meanwhile foreigners in our homes, our beaches and rivers polluted and foreigners forcing low wages in employment. Thankfully our government is taking long awaited steps to fix our chronic unsustainable immigration problems, also the indigenous Maori who consented to British colonisation through Treaty Of Waitangi have historically had ZERO say into our immigration system, a clear breach of Treaty Of Waitangi our founding document enshrined in law, so instead of just making things up to suit your narrative try learning the history of this country, you're a mere guest here with zero bloodline or connection to the land!

the cons are failing housing over packed roads hospitals schools etc. do we really need all the immigrants coming into new Zealand i don't think we need them as if the nz groverement are spending over 100 million on motels to house kiwis then maybe we have to much immigrants and the services cant cope doses everyone understand that a new Zealanders is someone born in a new Zealand hospital etc. as the county and hospitals we are born in is who we are and where we are from i say slow down on immigrants coming into new Zealand house training jobs for new Zealander's before immigrants over 200000 people sitting on the benefits why would we need more low skilled workers coming in making housing hospitals roads and services even more over packed seems crazy to me

@KamalnayanSBhatt3 жыл бұрын
@@millennialimmigrant5600 Religious people are always nice all the time, but we all have to be abided by the law also. We all have to abide by the laws of Nature, land, and local authorities. Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore, one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience. {Roman 13: 1-7}

It doesn't seem like you're happy in NZ so why are you here?. You talk so highly of other countries go and live there and let us be. I'm sure there are a lot of other people who'll be grateful to have the opportunity to start a new life here 🙄🙄
@millennialimmigrant56004 жыл бұрын
Hi Mere. Don't worry I already left, but "thanks" for telling me what to do "go and live there". Regarding " let us be" - I am not impacting anyone in any way, I am just telling my opinion and I have right to do so. "I'm sure there are a lot of other people who'll be grateful to have the opportunity to start a new life here" again I am not stopping anyone from doing that. But before making that life changing decision and spending all their money and selling their property in home country to put all that money on NZ, I am sure they would want to know both sides of the coin and hear different experiences. The issues I raised are real, like cmon all locals are well aware about the housing bubble, and housing quality. And statistics I pulled is official statistics, so I am not sure what are you hating on. Or as an immigrant I can't have a voice and cant say that something is wrong?
