the best meat pies i've ever eaten were at the in-house cafe at the factory i work at. it got flooded during cyclone gabrielle two months ago and i've been deprived ever since. hopefully in another few months it will be rebuilt

Georgie Pies were awesome. I remember when they were $1 Each. Me and the boys would rock up with $10 and all leave full. Those were the days

@@donovankelly12 in case you weren't aware Georgie Pie was a McDonald's type restaurant chain that operated in NZ from the late 70s to mid 90s before eventually having all their nationwide outlets purchased and converted into McDonald's restaurants. 15 yrs later McDonald's started offering Georgie Pies on the menu having obviously bought the Georgie Pie brand as well as the building's. Why they didn't start selling them immediately I don't know. They lasted a while but little by little outlets started dropping them off the menu. I started having to drive a 50km round-trip to get my fix. Until one day they just disappeared.

@@donovankelly12 Our pies are regulated for the % of meat and % gravy and % of pastry, because 40 years ago it was a real cowboy rip off sometimes. Even the gristle content is limited.

best hidden gems are bakeries in South Auckland. If you're in Mangere try Central Bakery its right next to A mobil petrol station. Steak and cheese and Potatoe tops and sausage rolls are to die for.

Not so. Here in South Australia we have Vili's at a commercial level and a long list of fantastic small bakeries in Adelaide and across all the rural regions. The small town where I live, has Andy's and they have won national awards.

omg new zealand pies? im a new zealander/kiwi, and trust me. our pies are the best. meat pies are 💪💪💪💪. if you ever go to nz, GO TRY OUR PIES. yes, you can get them everywhere. LITERALLY. most of the time i get them from petrol stations for breakfast when i leave for school. TRY THE PIESSS

I am finding out that there's a few Kiwi's up here that have opened up shop. I've tried one so far and it was pretty good. But generally, no. There are little chicken pot pies that you can find frozen here and there, small ones and family sized ones, but a pie is always reffered to as a desert pie, and I had never had anything like a NZ pie that you can find at any bakery, petrol station, dairy, etc.

There's always a place where you can find a good pie. Just stay away from Big Ben or similar brand pies sold at dairys. They're cheap and you get what you pay for.
