Just before Noon on Thursday September 17, Box 5146 was transmitted for 440 Harrison Street for a house fire.
Battalion Chief 1 (Williams) struck out the second alarm for heavy fire in a 2.5 story E/O/R (End-of-Row). Firefighters found a victim on the second floor and rescued him via a ground ladder. The male was rushed to an area hospital by Allentown E.M.S.
As the fire extended to exposure 4, the 3rd alarm was struck. Firefighters now were battling the fire in the main fire building and the exposure. As the fire reached exposure 4A, the chief special-called 3 Engines from Lehigh County, Emmaus, Eastern Salisbury and Whitehall.
Allentown Reserve Engine 5 was placed into service with 3 firefighters and brought to the fire scene.

With regard to the comments on the siding and the quality of construction, I was raised in the second house in from birth to age 14. My father did siding for a living. Before that roofs. Before that kitchens. Before that, brickcoat. Everything you see on that 2nd house, he did, and it was done more than 50 years ago. Look at the kitchen pictures from 2013 on zillow. Same kitchen I grew up with and it looked new in 2013. I am now almost 60. Nothing wrong with that construction. Still plumb, level and tight. The wall between the rwo houses would have been the stairwell wall af each house. No electrical in it but for kitchens at the back of the properties.

Thanks for the commentary Mark. I don't think the quality of the construction was the issue. You can tell that by how hard the FFs had to work to get in-between those sections. :D As a Fire Fighter, it's the methods that I and others oppose. Void spaces, no matter how small, are nearly impossible to deal with, without a lot of work and a great amount of danger. But with all due respect to your Dad, we didn't know then, what we know now, especially about void spaces. I am positive that he would done some things differently if he were doing it today. That's just what we have to work with fighting fires in dwellings of older construction. Heck, if that was built using today's methods and materials; it would have been down to the ground before the end of the video! Which is better? I'll let the armchair folks decide that. Hat's off to you, your Dad and, all the Brothers who worked to make sure that no one did die here. Stay safe and healthy brother!

You know it got HOT, when the sliding on the other house, 50 feet away, has melted siding.

Just like the “New Townhouses” that are basically row homes, but town house sounds more UpScale, so they can charge more.

Still remember in the seventies how Sears had ads all of the time about aluminum siding so you could make your house look like new. Unfortunately as one can see here, the houses hiding under this siding are very old and rotten. A real challenge for a fire dept.

Increased population, short story. Increased communication methods, another story. Thanks to cheaper video and people like Jeff and KZfaq, we get to see more now than we ever have. So sometimes it seems like more, when it may only be a small increase over the years. We just get to see more things that the news doesn't cover anymore. (No good for ratings. But that's just my small opinion). I find better local coverage right here than I do with my local "businesses." (again, opinion is my own on that). 👍

Good Lord this was painful to watch. Fighting a fire that's clearly in the walls and ceilings from the exterior, interesting approach. Didn't see much interior overhaul.

I worry about getting my cat out if there's a fire. He's terrified of the smoke alarms when we test them. He runs and hides. I live in a hundred year old house. I'm afraid it's going to be rough getting out of.

This one was Lots of fun for those departments balloon construction & multi residence. And after being there for hours and hours and cleaning up they'll be back in hours later for a relight. At least it's finally cooled off in this area Thursday wasn't too hot.

What is Ballon Construction ?
@SpprtAssoc
@SpprtAssoc 3 жыл бұрын
It's old type construction with void spaces behind the walls from floor to ceiling. Unlike newer construction which has fire stop between floors. With void space floor to ceiling the fire runs unabated behind the walls and causes many more problems than a "normal "fire.
@skipd9164

It is studs running from foundation to roof with a 16 to 24in gap. It basically acts like a chimney between every stud . Heat rises and if fire in basement you will get ambers getting pulled up into the space. You will never know where fire will show itself. You could have a fire in rear wall and one in front wall . Also floor jouses are connected to each stud allowing fire to also travel into floor beams at all levels

Voted 2020's most stubborn fire. I think an excavator on the back side of that house knocking it down would have been the perfect solution. No fire would be hiding in the walls then.

the hoses are turned off way too soon....its still burning and one guy is wrecking a window frame for no reason...whos in charge here?.... man he needs some training....and why isnt there water going into roof where the holes have been made?..totally inept ...they need more training....this is so hard to watch ,no one really knows what they are doing at all...lets cut some more holes in the roof ,but we wont put water in the hole
@lehighvalleyfirevids
@lehighvalleyfirevids 3 жыл бұрын
I’m just saying if they cut holes in the roof it’s obviously for ventilation and the reason they broke the window is also for ventilation or if firefighters doing interior attack inside the structure one it has been fairly put out if that it’s another way for firefighters to enter or exit the home once overhaul has been completed I see that smoke was still coming out of the building they were probably checking for hotspots after the fire In case there is any fire inside the walls after the fire due to the 3rd alarm being struck oh yeah the battalion chief is in charge unless the 2nd alarm has been struck than chief 40 responds in a takes command
