Yeah, he started strong, then 2-3 of those 5 he definitely should have had. I think that's what got in his head more than anything, was knowing he should have had a few of those. And it escalated from there. Eh, he's a rookie--I think he'll get his focus back and learn from it and keep getting better. I hope he goes on to become one of the best goalies in the game, I think he's got tons of potential.

I’m still not convinced that was even a penalty, let alone a suspension. He was going in at an angle, not directly from behind and the only reason there was any head contact was because grzelcyk suddenly changed his course of movement about a tenth of a second before the hit.

MrFreshJr when they’re considering a suspension they usually consider whether the head contact could be avoided. In this case IMO there was not enough time for the hitter to react after the sudden movement as he was already well into the motion of hitting and fully committed to the hit
@RogueSquirre1-1
@RogueSquirre1-1 5 жыл бұрын
@@carai6083 You are correct. I do not believe the officials and now the NHL (with the Suspension) even looked at the rule book. Rule 41-Boarding states, "There is an enormous amount of judgment involved in the application of this rule by the Referees. The onus is on the player applying the check to ensure his opponent is not in a defenseless position and if so, he must avoid or minimize contact. However, in determining whether such contact could have been avoided, the circumstances of the check, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the check or whether the check was unavoidable can be considered. This balance must be considered by the Referees when applying this rule." The big "However" in the middle of the paragraph is where the officials and the NHL should have read three or four times.

Krug glided for a good 3 meters, hit shoulder to shoulder, didn't leave his feet til after contact and the puck was right there so I don't know how you can say he wasn't going to play the puck. They should use that hit for what a 100% clean cut hit actually looks like in a league full of elbows and hits from behind.

Yup so does every team, in every game, on every change on the fly. What's you're point here? Are you saying they should have received a penalty or had the goal disallowed? If so I should point out this was a legal and absolutely good play and goal. When it happened they were in an active change on the fly, play was already in the offensive zone (wasn't anywhere near the puck!) Per rulebook and per STL and per war room in Toronto who all scrutinized it's a good goal and legal play.

@inneedofmedication
@inneedofmedication 5 жыл бұрын
@@kylehadcock6248 This wasn't his first day. The unnatural motion he made to play the puck and losing his balance is the primary cause of the foul. A lefty doesn't skate towards the puck, and try to play the puck on his forehand while attempting make a sharp turn the other direction. Grizz did one of the following 2 things; tried to fake sundqvist out to avoid the hit or keep his back to sundqvist to avoid being hit. Either way, he knew he was being hit. He should of followed through on his forehand, like most players would, took the hit shoulder to shoulder, no injury, no penalty/suspension and nobody would be discussing this. Instead, he made a bad decision and is now injured because of it. Even if sundqvist pulled up and just ran into him instead of following through, Grizz would still of gotten hurt. The only way Grizz doesn't get hurt is if sundqvist doesn't attempt to make any contact wit him, and thats called non-contact hockey, welcome to the big league. Don't step in front of an oncoming truck and blame the driver that you got hurt.

*I bet to differ, this is not fully sterilized and soft hockey yet. There was nothing wrong with the Krug hit, or the Sundqvist one either. Just because someone holds their head and stays down does NOT mean there was a penalty. Due to the Department Of Player Safety they are calling penalties on ANY big hit where a player stays down. Or even remotely acts like he has a head injury. The NHL is slowly on it's way to phasing out body checking and big hitting and making it illegal. Just like fighting and enforcement is getting phased out. Fighting and hitting belong in the NHL and have been in the sport for over a hundred years. There has not been ONE dirty or penalty worthy hit so far this series. Change my mind, you play doe soft fans who think every big hit is suspension and fine or major worthy. Prove it to me.*

There are too many hits that are inches from being the same thing. The refs just don't want to enforce the hit from behind call. Grez slipped and Sund came in at the speed and lowered height he needs to in order to neutralize a reverse hit which is incredibly likely in that scenario. Should've been a game misconduct with no regard to the injury, but the refs have already set the dangerous precedent for allowing that type of hit for the past decade and beyond. Injury based calls is what created/incentivized this hit

Steve I often agree with you but you're dead wrong about that hit. He put himself in a bad position lost balance then got hit. He tried to turn into the boards so I'll side with Don Cherry and say that was a dumb play probably shouldn't have been a penalty and the suspension is outrageous. You wanna see one go the other way? Look at boychucks hit on Mason Raymond in 2011.

The Sundvist hit was both of their faults, and this happens with SO many bad hits. The player that gets hit either has their back turned the entire time, or turns right before they get hit, it's so stupid. 90% of the time it's just as much the player getting hit's fault as it is the player hitting them

He slipped and then got hit in a manner that was deemed illegal which resulted in serious injury that is almost a guaranteed suspension for the guy in the box, and it's been fairly consistent enforcement(or at least as much as can be with the zebras). Whether the head shot itself was intended or not doesn't matter once illegal contact is made, the result and foul are what matters rule wise.

The blues hit grzelcyk in the head, numbers and left his feet, and don’t say “well grzelcyk was slipping” a hit in the head is a hit in the head. The hit MacAvoy did against the blue jackets he got suspended and he didn’t hit the guy in the head nor numbers and didn’t even leave his feet. Everybody is against the bruins it’s kinda funny

So why doesn't the play doe soft NHL just ban hitting anyone who is not facing you?. Also clearly you cannot hit anyone who is looking down at the puck anymore either. EVERY big hit or check is called " A High hit " or " A headshot " or " Hitting an unsuspecting player ". Just ban all hitting from the game if you are going to treat the players like babies everytime they get hit.

Hardcore American Gamer No, but it's Sundqvist's fault for making the conscious decision to hit a vulnerable player from behind. 1.3 seconds is also plenty of time to back out of the hit, especially considering it was enough time for him to decide to change his angle to murder the guy
