Remember this is Marco 2.0 having relearned how to sing after botched surgery on his vocal chords in the early 1990's!! Nightwish is like that old warm blanket you love to cuddle up with and forget about your troubles as you drift away!!!!! One thing I love on Nightwish. In a concert each musician gets his special moment to show his abilities. I know this in this form only at Nightwish. When someone has a solo, the others step back and support him ...... Fantastic.

The tuning he uses is known as drop C. Standard tuning is EBGDAE. He drops all the strings by one tone and then the low D to C, so the strings are DAFCGC. Nearly all their songs are detuned to D from the standard E. It makes everything more resonant.

Marko actually wrote the music and Tuomas wrote the lyrics to this song. Marko was singing this song and Tuomas really liked it and wanted to put it on the album. The only thing he wanted was to change was the lyrics. This was your Nightwish lesson for the day. lol You guys did good. I am so glad that you feel the essence of Nightwish. Just a suggestion. Watch the music video to this song. It has Annette singing in it. Just think how badass you have to be. Instead of you sitting around a campfire. The campfire sets around you.

The Islander is easily one of my favourite NW songs and this live performance is just amazing. I do hope Marco gets more lead vocal time in their next album.

Thanks. Yes, Nightwish is really unique. Every each of it´s member is so skilled, pro, educated in music. And we can hear and see it. Waiting next year, how their next world tour will go. Netherlands concert (that hall can take 17 000 people) already sold out. And concert is November 2020!!!

Great reaction guys as always - as regards the guitar tuning, it is my understanding that it is "DROP B" tuning (minor third down, and sixth string a whole step). Im by no means a guitar nerd although I play but I seem to recall that was the set up. Please feel free to correct me as I will bow to far more experienced players of course.

I see comments below saying "drop this" or "drop that" tuning. It's my understanding that NW uses D standard tuning. All strings just 1 step down from E standard. Seems a few years ago when I was trying to learn how to play one of their songs I discovered D standard worked, and is how my guitar is currently still tuned. 😂 👍

They put him in the video as the Piper you see toward the end of the video. He and Tuomas hit it off so well. That Tuomas wrote more music to include the various musical instruments that Troy plays. With him slowly over time becoming a full time member of the band.

The tunning he is using is drop C. In The original Studio song he plays a bit different(has more instruments to back him up). Studio version is played in Drop B tune. B - F# - B - E - G# - C#

A group that is no longer around that you might like is “Savatage”. Many good songs, not sure if you have heard anything by them, if my start with “The Hall of the Mountain King” or “Gutter Ballet” , both show their versatility.
