Nikon Coolpix B700 - Review in 2018!

Review of the latest superzoom from Nikon - Coolpix B700. It has 60x zoom - 24-1440mm f./3.3-6.5. It records 4K videos at 30p and 1080p up to 60p. I will show you my impressions and describe how is the picture and video quality.

20.2 MP low-light CMOS image sensor for brilliant photo and 4K UHD video quality
Built-in Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth® low energy (BLE) maintain a constant connection with a compatible smartphone or tablet
PSAM mode dial and RAW (NRW) capture for maximum image control
Two ways to compose: swiveling Vari-angle LCD and a high-resolution Electronic Viewfinder

Let me know what you think about this kind of superzoom camera? Is it better to buy DSLR or some 1-inch sensor camera?

depends on the uses. You forgotten to say you can take RAW pictures with b700. Anyway Bridge camera is a great tool for traveling people, 1 inch sensor would be better compared to 1 2/3 . But they are expensive. Personally i think that within 4-5 years we'll have bridge camera with small sensors with same quality pictures of actual DSLR.

Comparison would not be good different sensors possibility of changing lenses How much money do you have to spend? and the use you will make in person I think it's a great trip

I have the same camera, it truly shines when in manual mode. When you can control the focus, aperture, and iso, then you can get some serious quality photos and videos by playing with the settings and not relying on the auto features that come with the camera.

The B700 camera works great for me. The pictures are very sharp. I’m glad that I got one. The zoom works great. Great video. ❤❤❤

This is my concert camera (when they don't allow interchangeable lens cameras) and the results are pretty good. Certainly could never get the same quality shots at a distance with any cell phone camera.

I have the B700 and it is an amazing camera, very nice macro shooting too. The only thing that is not that good is the low light shooting. I love the weight of the B700, I recently bought a Zhiyun Crane M gimbal for my Sony RX100 and it can carry the B700 too. I saw an other review of this youtuber, and it is very clear he doesn't really like the B700, I advise you too watch other video's and maybe become a member of the B700 group on facebook, they are a very active group with many tips and turtorials. Wish you much fun with the camera Cin Dee :)

But B700 can shoot in raw while p900 can't. However I'm no pro and I'd love to have a camera which can have a superzoom to take it with me on holidays. I've got not so much cash and I wasn't sure if a reflex is the right choice for me. Knowing that I don't need to print pics atm and that I'm a student with no much cash will you advise me a bridge or a reflex?

I recently bought a second hand B700 camera, I have had other superzoom bridge cameras and they all have the same issue with the poor quality vievfinder. My view is not fairly good anymore and this poor VF is for me a problem. Does anybody know which zuperzoom camera has the best viewfinder, if any has a good one?

Lumix FZ300 and FZ1000. Maybe even FZ82 but you would need to look it up 😉

What would you say is better the NIKON P520, or the B700? I am looking at buying a lightly used camera, and these are the two best options for me. Unfortunately, the B700 is much more expensive than the P520, but I am afraid the P520 could be a very old model (as they were made in 2013). What would you recommend for me and my budget? I am looking around $200 and under, maybe $250. Thanks all help appreciated.

Unfortunately I didn't used P520, but it seems to have less zoom and you will miss 4K video. On the other hand I think picture quality will be very similiar since there are not many upgrades in compact cmaeras in this term so think about it. It might be good for you.

@@MGalaxy Thank you for replying. Would it be worth the extra $125 for 4k, 2mp more, and the fancy eye-detecting view finder? This will be an all-around camera for me, the manual focus and video is what is most important. I just don't know if it would be a good decision to buy a potentially 5 year old used camera instead of a much newer model with some improvements to save money.

There are two ways: 1. Software tricks like portrait mode on phones (artificial results) 2. Hardware = bright lens or bigger sensor (or both). You can also zoom in. B700 is not meant for that, if you have to then use furthest focal lenghts and lowest aperture possible.

1:01 "View finder is very small to the level to which it is almost painful to use" That's the point. It is supposed to be small, so that you can put your eye to it. That's like saying "the speaker grill in this phone is terrible. It is so small and quiet, I couldn't hear a thing." That's because you have to put your ear to it. I looked at the camera at best buy, it isn't small.

You didn't understand. I am talking about screen built into this viewfinder. I am not talking about viewfinder housing (which is that external plastic), but screen which is inside this housing. Check how EVF look on something like Sony a6000/a6300/a6500/a7/a7ii etc. and then look through viewfinder of this bridge camera. :)

Oh, well the screen on the view finder seemed fine as well. I had compared it to the view finder on a DSLR, and it wasn't as good, but it was still just fine for a bridge camera, as they aren't the best.

You would probably be better off with mirrorless or some DSLR if you want to start your photography journey a bit more serious. In the similar price even may be.

You would have to define your needs and price. "Average price" may differ on view. Nikon D5500/D3500/D3400 offer great image quality and pretty good 1080p. Sony a6000 is also an option. 1-inch sensor camera with good built in lens - Panasonic FZ1000 - also a great choice.

I would not recommend it, videos and photos are complete trash. You can only use it to take videos with zooming to remote areas.

@@borshisme thank you so much for responding! No i wasn't really looking for super zoom I just wanted something a bit smaller than a regular dslr thats good and sharp for videos. I ended up choosing the Nikon D3400...

tested it these days, this is lightweight and small, well designed, record button is at the right place, decent photos, good at low light. stabilization is phenomenal, even at max zoom is rock steady. cons: terrible video, even 4K looks like a poor upscaled fullHD. the focus/sharpness at max zoom is blurry with floating shadow from the lens tube.

Actually you don't need a 4K monitor or TV to see the difference. 4K video looks sharper than 1080P even on an HD monitor or TV, because each frame has 4x the resolution (8MP per frame instead of 2MP per frame). Look at youtube videos shot in 4K on your computer screen, then set the youtube setting down to 1080P. You will see the difference, especially if you pause the video.
