FYI: The video record button (right next to the shutter button) can be set to be a quick access to ISO settings (enable/disable auto ISO and also ability to change ISO value). The video record button is otherwise not functional when you're not in live view mode for video. So, it makes sense to set that button to be the ISO access so you're able to quickly access ISO settings and change them with just your right hand.

Many people agree with your review that Nikon D750 is better in terms of dynamic range than Canon 5D Mark III. Nikon D750 is also better at focusing in the dark especially with photos than Canon 5D Mark III. DPReview also gives in 90% Gold rating and puts it second to Sony a7r II for best full frame DSRLs in 2016.

Hi Christine & Toby - as the saying goes I liked the D750 so much I bought it. It would be worth mentioning that you can reassign the ISO button to the movie record button - the red button on the preferred right side of the camera. I hope this would readdress one of your major concerns on the D750 - the ergonomics. Hand size and shape is another thing though. Best wishes, Ben

Regarding your negatives of the Nikon D750 with two handed control changing ISO with the button on the left side of the camera, the red dot record button on the top of the camera can be customised to change the ISO. After changing the function of this button ISO, aperture, and speed can all then be controlled with the right hand like on the Canon 5d mkiii.

Essentially, what you are saying about the Canon 5D MkIII is that it is the benchmark. Canon set this benchmark in 2012 and it took Nikon 3 years to fully catch up and exceed the Canon. 2015 will bring 3 new full frame models from Canon to replace the 5D MkIII, 6D and possibly the 1Dx. I would recommend that Canon users don't jump ship until they see what's coming this year.
@DriveCancelDC9 жыл бұрын
It seems wise to jump ship from Canon unless you are really not happy about using adapters, they released the 7D Mark II which has worse IQ than the entry level Nikons. That company doesn't really seem to care about improving their sensors and they are really falling behind, I think the 5D Mark III has been bested by other full frame cameras too, at least from IQ perspectives. DXOMark rates many cameras above the 5D but I know the overall package is also important.

Great review! I actually really appreciate having separate live view settings. I shoot a lot of concerts and I often time shoot photos and video for a particular band, meaning I need to be able to go from shooting photos to shooting video almost instantly. With separate live view settings, I can do that, and all of my still settings remain the same once I back out, meaning I don't need to change them back

Why are you worrying about the AWB when you'll tweak it in Lightroom anyway. And the difference between them isn't much, about 400K. Check something though, in the Shooting menu, go into WB Auto, then go right again. There should be two settings, Normal: Auto1, and Keep warm lighting colours (U is mine): Auto2. Both of which you can tinker with on a colour grid if you feel the Auto settings native to the camera aren't to your liking.

Good review thanks. I'm a D600 and D7000 user and I can relate to your comments about focus speed in low light using my Nikon products. Video . . . meh! . . . I'm putting my pennies together to get a real 4K video camera like sony's PSW-FS7 because I'm tired of the compromises you have to deal with doing DSLR video, although in a pinch I'd get the G4. I've got a lot of Nikon glass so any move I make centers on that investment.

I wanted a very good low light performing camera for Milky Way photography. Very pleased with it! Just recently found out that the D750 is pretty much ISO invariant above ISO100, after watching a video on the subject. Tested my D610 and I can confirm the same thing. Canon should introduce a newer 5d mk4 esp when you look at the pics from 16:00 onwards. After watching many videos I feel that Nikon's cameras seem to be catering to specific segments. D610 for amateurs moving into FX; D750 for photo-journalists to shoot over the heads of others with a flip screen and quickly send photos to their editors with Wi-Fi; D810 for high end professionals, landscapes, commercial photographers etc. and D5 for sports and action photographers. D500 is for wildlife and bird photography. D610 does not qualify for Nikon's NPS which is a clear indication that it is aimed at enthusiasts. So choose your camera based on your needs.

As with another comment below, I too really like the graphics and style of this review. It was VERY well done. I also agree with the person that said if they were to start all over and had not used Cannon they would likely choose Nikon. I too would probably go Nikon. Its hard to say though.... I invested in great glass so does that offset enough on things like better focusing points and the Dynamic range? There is clearly a huge huge difference in dynamic range and that is pretty important to me.

I should note, for myself, the D750 is absolutely the best grip, for me, that Nikon has ever made. I never liked Nikon's awkward grip compared to Canon's pistol-like fitting. The D750 has finally shown that Nikon listens to suggestions. Compared to the D700, which is also comfortable, the D750 is better suited for larger hands due to its deepened grip. Otherwise your fingers/fingernails would be sticking into the body or you'll have to lower your hand grip position, it was always a problem for me.

Starting with Fuji, moving over to Nikon, than Canon for filming (Eos 550D) and 6D (photography) I jumped to the Panasonic FZ1000 for 4K video. I want to do more with video and it seems price-quality wise Panasonic is doing a good job here (true, Canon has 4K on their VERY pricey C100 and up but that's not something you want to carry around on a daily basis I guess). I really love the video quality on the FZ1000 and it has also a 24-400 mm Leica lens with great sharpness and image quality. I am saving up for the GH4 now and for that price it looks like I won't go back soon to Canon again (at least with the available financial space I have at this moment). Another brand that takes over a huge amount of Canon photographers/filmers is Sony with the A7s. The only reason I stay with Canon at this moment is the huge amount of money I did invest in Canon L-lenses. But that's it really. I want to fully upgrade to a 4k System camera and when the time's right, it will be Panasonic GH4 or when Sony jumps into similar MFT 4k camera's, maybe Sony.

I am thoroughly willing to get D750, but the issues of Nikon's colour reproduction vs Canon is bugging me. Do Nikon D750 has same issue like D4 and also D7200 with greenish tint, especially in higher iso? I have been hearing a lot that colour reproduction and skin tones of Canon is much better than that of Nikon. Yes, I have also heard these things can be corrected in post, but I am not someone who is dedicated to post production. Coming straight out the camera, do D750 have the same issue? Or is it just general that Canon are better at colour reproduction?!

crxracer805 From what I've read, and from what I've seen from shooting my own D750, yes I'm sure. Canon glass is barely better in image quality. It's not noticeable because Nikon's sensors usually outshine Canon's. Canon has more lens options though.

Hi Akash, I was in many stores to check a bunch of cameras (even Canon and Sony Products) for my own. Its only my personal opinion, but for me the Nikons are the best in ergonomic and comfort. sony was too small for my personal flavor, canon feels like plastic (rly dont like those big bombers) and Nikon was great in my hands ^^. D750 was smaller than 810 but feels soooo great. carbon fiber feels rly rly good :) Mb you need to test it for your own. My other reasons for the D750... - less noise ratio (better than d810 and every canon on the market) at high iso - great dynamic range - fast camera I rly love that camera. Its my first FullFrame Cam, before I got an Olympus DSLR plus Panasonic. best regards

You missed a couple of important point IMO on the video capabilities of the D750. First and foremost is the "flat profile" mode for video and second is the dedicated video menu. Also you should mention the onscreen menu for video and the fact that you can now change aperture and shutter speed while in live view. All these have been used as a detractor to Nikon video forever by Canon users so, I think it would be a more neutral review if these features were mentioned. Not just keep bitching about the grip or ergo on the Nikon. Nikon users, like myself, are accustomed to the button layout and I personally find them to be preferable to Canon products.

Yeah, for now, it looks if though Canon had fallen asleep and Nikon, Sony, and Panasonic has surpassed Canon. Canon is loosing customers everyday. We rely on Magic Lantern just to keep Canon up to date. I think Canon should give Magic Lantern a big fat check for doing what they did. If Canon doesn't pack their next cameras with everything like a new sensor that can rival Sony, 4K cameras under 2000 dollars, focus peaking, recovering shadows without colour noise, higher mega pixels, mirror less cameras,,,,,,the list is too long.... then they will become just a lens company :(

M Coop Why would Sony stop selling sensors to Nikon? It is one of their main revenues....Even if Canon makes its own sensor, but why the end user should care and pay allegiance to the company for that....??? It doesn't make sense...what matter is the best product for you, regardless of who makes it... Besides, It is not only the sensor that makes Nikon picture quality (DR and Color bit) is good, but also Nikon software. Sony and Nikon are using the same sensors but Nikon's picture quality is better than Sony's I think.

Thank you so much for the video. I’m planning to purchase my very first DSLR which is Nikon D750 along with 85mm 1.8 + 50mm 1.8 G lens. I’m wondering is it still worth to buy this camera considering 5 years old?. Purpose of buying a camera is for taking Portraits, Still, Landscape, Bird, Product photography (learning) and of course my kids. It would be really great if you throw some lights on my concern to make a wise decision.... other options I have considered is Nikon D780 with one of the lens and Z6ii with the kit lens... apart from D780 and Z6ii I have been suggesting to go with D850 with the kit lens. Thank you and looking forward to your recommendation.

how can the d750 provide such excellent images compared to the d500 when it has a low pass filter?....how can the d750 have such a better auto focusing system then the d500 when the d500 gets 3 times the keeper images in fast continuous mode?....Yes, i realize the d500 did not come on the market when you made this video, but my questions are important because this is what reviewers are saying today......

Thank you for the nice review. As mentioned about new graphics on the wall, awesome! About different settings in Live view and OVF mode. Different setting for both modes for me are good, since i don't want to shoot video in aperture mode for example. I want video setting to stay put when i toggle between 2 modes. (specially shutter speed due the flickering issue, also WB and ISO) . For Example i use Aperture priority with ISO 3200 for stills and i want Video with Manual mode and Auto ISO and fixed WB. Also please add Highlight about ISO button remap to video. .

Can't decide between MKIII Or the D750. Both reducing in price because of newer models out or releasing soon (d760). I want it for general use sightseeing as well as wedding photography.
@photorectoby7 жыл бұрын
Both are excellent cameras. I really like the articulating screen of the Nikon along with wifi- neither honestly important to image quality but they make the camera a more versatile tool for general photography.

I agree! Canon should really step it up and build a sensor with at least a 14 EV dynamic range. I believe Canon glass is superior above Nikon (look at the Canon 70-200 f2.8 is ii) but Nikon makes superior camera bodies. If Canon releases a 6D ii, I will consider it and choose between that or the Nikon D750 as my first full frame.

@@5ups973 Hahaha, funny how you ask now. I'm actually thinking of selling it this month (D610). It's not very quick. It is slow to focus. The colors are beautiful though however, the D700 is a much better camera. It's quick, built like a tank and produces gorgeous colors. It's so amazing that I might actually get a 2nd D700, not kidding. I reccomend the D700 over the D610 by a long shot. Much cheaper too.
@abd869 жыл бұрын
Good job Im thinking to change from 5dmk3 to d810 what do you think? As it's sharper and its dynamic range is very good? The only thing i like about the canon is the colour of the skin when taking portrait photos, it gives that nice red touch to the photos.
@oBCHANo9 жыл бұрын
Well it's performs way better for stills, and I believe it's on par with video. And you have to think about the companies as a whole too. Canon are slow and are lagging way behind the competition while Nikon is actually pushing themselves all the time. So if you're not already heavily invested in Canon glass it would be a good idea to switch imo.
@photorectoby9 жыл бұрын
abdullah alanizy Depends on what and where you are shooting but the D810 is an excellent beast of a camera and will give you some serious resolution. I do agree that Canon skin tones often look nicer to me too. It may just be that I am more used to the look.

Great review! Thank you a lot. Im thinking of buying a Nikon FX camera. I'm using a Fuji X100s atm but wanna switch to FX now. Problem is, i am really not sure wether to buy the D750 or the D610. In Switzerland the D610 costs about 1499$ Body only. The D750 costs 1899$. I'm a enthusiast and hobbyist and don't earn my living with photography. I'm thinking of starting to earn some money with photography though, but not talking semipro here. Maybe in 2 years or so. Oh and video is not so important to me. I never used it on other cameras and just am in to taking pictures. Videos are nice but not too important for me. What would you recommend? I'm really not sure. Thank you for your recommendation Greetings from Switzerland Nils
@jameswillerton18699 жыл бұрын
The main "real world" differences between these cameras would probably be autofocus performance and the articulating screen. In terms of IQ there is very little between them. What I would point out though is that if you put rubbish glass in front of a 24mp sensor the difference in camera bodies won't make much difference - so if buying the D610 allows you to get better glass it might be worth considering. Personally I'd say the extra functionality of the D750 is worth the extra money. Either would be sufficient to produce good enough results for paid work (with the right lenses). You might also want to consider a D7100. It is relatively noisy but MUCH cheaper, and again if you put nice FX glass in front of it you can produce outstanding results as well as future-proofing for body upgrades as your photographic skills improve. In real world terms: for the same price as a D750 body-only, you could pretty much buy a D7100 with a pro lens. If you are on a budget it's about where the best use of your investment is going to be - and most pros will tell you it's in the glass rather than the bodies.
@nilswachter9 жыл бұрын
James Willerton Thank you very much, James. D7100 is not an option for me because i really wanna switch to full frame. Won't put kit lenses on the FX cam. i'm considering to buy the 50mm 1.8 G or 1.4G for the FX Body. later i will buy a pro zoom but thats not an option right now. I had a Nikon d300s with a few lenses but unfortunately sold it for the fuji, which i love, but i should never have sold my dslr. The autofocus of fuji may be good not never on par with a dslr and the fix lens is just too limiting. I'd consider the higher price of the D750 but if the difference between this cam and the d610 is not too big. I won't shoot sports in low light for example i'd rather buy the d610. I shoot portraits and landscapes and most during traveling.
@jameswillerton18699 жыл бұрын
***** I have the 50mm 1.8G and it's a nice lens to use. I hear what you're saying about full frame: however your logic for considering the D610 against the D750 (bearing in mind your usage) also applies to the D7100 against the D610. Take a look at the Tokina 11-16mm DX reviews for your landscape work. For portraits I use either the 50mm (although it's a little wide), or the 70-300mm VR FX lens. If you have a limited budget, personally I'd be looking at getting the glass first (ideally FX-compatible) and compromising more on the body, where it will make less difference. If weight/size are also an issue, again the D7100 might score points against the full frames. Of course it is your decision to make, I just suspect sometimes people feel railroaded into "full frame" when their needs actually don't warrant it against the much cheaper DX bodies.
@nilswachter9 жыл бұрын
James Willerton Yeah i understand your point, james. Thing is i really like working with shallow depth of field and in low light. I heard that the d7100 is an amazing camera. I used the D300s a long time back then. So i know about the pros and cons of DX. Actually i think its time for a step up now so i guess FX is my choice. I will keep the Fuji as a great light croped sensor camera when low weight is important. I might go with the D750. Still a compromise compared to a D810 but thats just way too much for me. I also thought about the Fuji XT-1 but its way overpriced imho. With lens it costs nearly as much as the D750. And the D750 is just way ahead.
@jameswillerton18699 жыл бұрын
***** Well if you've got your heart set on full frame, I'd go back to what I said before, that the improvements in real-world usability probably make the D750 worth the extra. The ability to compose shots from low or high angle I think adds creative options, it's the best low-light performer (IQ and autofocus) and overall it's just a more rounded investment. You might be pleasantly surprised at just how much shadow detail these modern sensors in the Nikons can recover. Your lens choices might be more difficult than the camera body actually, to get you a working system again. I don't know what you had before with the D300s; however there are some decent budget options (such as the 70-300mm VR I mentioned). I'd be tempted to take a look at the 85mm 1.8G alongside the 50mm if you're looking for a portrait lens, or the 85mm Samyang 1.4 manual focus.

I think you're picking nits Toby. Also, although the sensor does make a difference the processor does most of the work to render the image. I hate everyone giving Sony all of the credit for great DR on Nikon cameras. I don't do video and don't care for video on a DSLR. However, if you want video, you go with Canon, specifically right now the 7D Mark II or the 70D. The Dual Pixel AF is really great on those cameras. I'm not a Canon user and as I stated before, I don't care for video on DSLR but that's what I'd go with if I did. One thing I will admit is that the grips on Canon bodies do feel much more comfortable than any of my Nikons.
@photorectoby9 жыл бұрын
What am I picking nits about? You would wish that Nikon gets more credit for the Image quality? Fair enough- they were smart and partnered with Canon :) But I do agree some of the quality comes from the processor too.

The ISO coupled with the magnification is on the D7100 as well, and it is annoying still after 5 months of using it... It doesn't happen a lot because I don't change my ISO alot, but when it does happen... grr.. My one biggest gripe about the D7100 and obviously they have it on the D750 too... the ISO button should be at the bottom or top in my opinion and its own button... I don't know why they put it smack dab in the middle of all the buttons...
