My Niobium Volcano Tamer Design & Guide - Simple & Self Powered
Utilizes Vacuum Properties to maximize the Pitcher Pump & Bottle Emptier
Requires Steel & Plastic & Raw Minerals! Although you can use Diamond/Refined Metals/Metal Ore, those 3 can be substituted by Steel.
Also Requires Crude Oil & a Variation of Water (ph2o, brine, salt water)
Although it works for Other Metal Volcanos as well, I believe its less efficient than the other designs I've shown
Update: The Auto-Sweeper only grabs Liquid Metals (Copper,Iron,Gold,etc) from the Pitcher Pump, no other liquid works.

I'm not sure if anyone has thought to use this kind of set-up but I engineered it myself.
Don't think I am the first to come up with the idea behind the design, but who knows.

Getting some comments from people who think this is utilizing a mod. That is not true, no Mods are needed for this design. If your auto sweeper doesnt pick up liquids from the pitcher pump and deliver to the bottle emptier, try toggling "enable auto-bottle" on the bottle emptier. Update: It only seems to work for Liquid metals and nothing else. I have a hunch on why that is but I'm not 100% sure.

i've tested the setup and it didn't work on water, then i tried on other liquid, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't, it seems it only work with molten metal, and steel too. it's a pretty weird glitch i must say

@@falco9997 huh, thats very interesting. ill do a bit of testing to see if there are any specifics- i assumed it would work with all liquids since it worked with niobium. a special glitch for molten metals is kinda convenient though

I've invested nearly 3000 hours into this game and today I learned something new... the autosweeper can pull from a pitcher pump. Ok, that changes everything.

Make sure the autosweeper is cooled at an end and NOT the middle -otherwise the 200kg of niobium instantly freezes and blocks the autosweeper.

I am really impressed by this build. Didn't know that the autosweeper could handle some of the liquids. That is really amazing. Tried the whole day to come up with my own design for fun :D Thanks for the cool idea

In my experience, even if you have bottle emptier in a vacuum, you can still consistantly get it entombed with it's contents (magma, metals, etc) if the insulated tile below them is anything but an insulation-insulated tile. I assume it's some kind of bug, but sometimes the liquid held is assumed to physically be at the bottom tile of the emptier, which definitely exchanges heat with igneos, and past 2500c' with ceramic. Next thing you see is 20c' emptier cooling the contents. Had the thing both entombed and melted because of this.

Saw this video. Started playing. Went to the volcano planet. Spent days vacuuming it... now to use this design! Well.. I didnt realise once studied the volcanoes drop data banks... I have 3 cycles to get there and grab them before it goes off and I have to vacuum again..

I recommend using liquid uranium instead of naphtha, it won’t ever flash to gas. Liquid range from 135° to over 4000°.

Thanks very much for the guide. It's been working perfectly for me for a few weeks now, but I have run into a small issue. The insulated tile to the bottom right of the volcano will eventually melt from constantly touching the liquid. If you have a small amount of space Insulation I recommend changing just that 1 tile, since it melts at 3621 degrees instead of 2726 for obsidian.

Thanks for the heads-up! I just build this design yesterday and had it run for a cycle or two, works like a charm. However I'm concerned that maybe the single steam turbine won't be able to keep up with the volcanic output, creating problems when the liquid niobium reaches the autosweeper. I could try to add a 2nd turbine, but that could get messy seeing as I've already got the steamroom up & running

You can go ultra low tech by keeping the bottle emptier in the steam room and just letting the niobium fall onto a metal tile. use a temp sensor to lock a door so dupes won't try to grab it if it's too hot.

Any mod that makes other canisters of liquids (such as magma/water/ et cetera) be moved by the auto sweeper? Automated Canisters doesn't seem to be DLC compatible.

Have you tried a door cruncher to shove the niobium into a mesh steam room tile? When it turns solid it pops out of the Tile as debris

Huh, interesting. I just tested it and I can't believe the auto-sweeper actually works on liquid metal but it really does work. That has to be an oversight but could be useful until it gets fixed assuming it ever gets fixed.

Hey man i appreciate all the help youve given me but I just got one last question, what do I do if the water tile thats on the sweeper accidentally gets too cold and freezes… I was using the whole thing to cool down some of the other resources on the map and it froze the water there. Should I just raise the temp on the sensor or wait for the sweeper to start grabbing the niobium for it to melt, or is it wiser for me to just replace it with actual water?

did you end up replacing the radient pipe with a conductive panel? if you did, you should try to remove the water. theres a issue with melting the ice back to water as it can spill out and become steam

@@2LegitCity I did, I just didnt think and had the coolant way too low. I expected the whole setup wouldve taken too long to cool things down and it in fact cooled the water down super fast

Hey man how do I select the niobium onto the bottle emptier wothout moping up the liquid niobium? I know since I havent discovered the material it wont work but also I have everything set up and being able to mop it up is gonna be really hard

Is it recommended that we use oil on the ground to transfer the heat? I have no oil with me and I dont wanna go all the way back just for oilif I can just use water or pwater

you cannot use polluted water since it off gases, but you can use water. if you do, the one tile on the auto sweeper should have the that pipe segment become an conductive panel instead of radient pipe. for whatever reason, water on that autosweeper tile spills itself randomly after extended periods of gameplay.

Just sucks if you dont have external power connected to it. Between eruptions I pumped all the niobium out and the steam cooled and the battery drained so when it erupted again the sweeper didnt have power to start again.

oh yeah that sucks. i guess the good news is that a single solar panel should be able to generate enough power to start it up again- that way it could be close to build a leave alone. come back to harvest the resources, etc. but thanks for pointing that out!

Does every lossless niobium volcano tamer require some sort of gimmick or exploit? It's all either pitcher pumps, door pumps or glitch pumps. The big problem is the ludicrously low tile solidification point - the high liquid density per tile doesn't help things either. What other material does this? It's like Klei wants us to break their game to deal with their broken rules.

Honestly you don't need much niobium, once you get some you can craft a thermium -> niobium loop so I doubt klei was too worried about it.

Was it patched out already? Because it doesn't seem to work in my world. It should be noted, though, that I mirrired the build because the volcano was really close to the right neutronium wall, but I doubt that should matter for this specific build.

This only works for anything that falls into the liquid metal category. so only metal volcanos, not regular magma volcanos, sadly

No mods, in the video the only mods i have active are sweep by type, pliers, and a painting mod- none of which affect the game

Very clever build but unless I'm mistaken it's kind of pointless? Once you make your first batch of Thermium you can use that to make more Niobium. Which can then be used to make more Thermium and so on. Also why would you need this much Niobium anyway? Seeing as it's only real practical use is to make Thermium. Kudos for the actual build though, this is top tier stuff. :)

Plus with this design, you might just be able to ignore all other volcanoes and simply tame this one, effectively making niobium as abundant as early game lead. Very nice indeed.

mesh tiles are only used to displace the solid after it solidifies- doesnt stop liquids from becoming diggable tiles

I tested this quite extensively. Conclusions: 1. It works only for liquid metals. I tested Nb, Cu, Fe, Steel, Au, W, Pb. I tested other liquids: water, salt water, nuc. waste, petrol, ethanol, methane, magma. NONE of those work. 2. Since it works only for a particular type of liquids it's a glitch that prolly will be patched out cos it's clearly not a universal interaction. 3. Therein lays the problem, it's not a viable build imho cos it's based on a "wonky", fringe interaction existence of which seems not exactly planned. Anyway, yes, for now this build should be working without any mods and I was wrong.

@@2LegitCity Frankly i hope they kinda do cos it's too easy and Nb volcanoes are meant to be an end game challenge ;) As cute of a solution it is, it kinda cheapens something that's not meant to be solved so easily.

@@tyraelpl Niobium is literally crafted from thermium... there is zero challenge there. This build/ glitch is cool but 100% unnecessary to get large quantities of niobium or thermium.

I know how it can be crafted and taming it is not something one has to do even, it's an option late game puzzle and actually there is quite a bit of challenge there but depending on your goals it can vary in difficulty. Like I say you can literally skip taming this volcano entirely or you can just brute force a solution with miners; but the challenge i see lays in taming it without losing mass and not resorting to cheesing a solution. Obviously with your approach many aspects of the game have zero challenge cos there is a lot of redundancy in content so id argue you're missing the point of the game as well as this video.

@@tyraelpl If the challenge you present yourself is based on finding a solution that dos not require cheese then there is zero need for this to be patched. Patching this would not effect you or your enjoyment of the game as you have already stated how you play, it would only effect those that wish to use the cheese. Your argument that it should be patched because it removes difficulty is ludicrous because there is no difficulty in acquiring a material that you can craft in infinite supply.

On my base install with only pliers it does not work. I've tried different liquids and different gas backgrounds. I've tried different priorites and making sure that no other tasks are requesting the same thing. I've tried putting different pitcher pumps with and without auto bottle. I don't think this works without mods. Plus my pitcher pump by the microbe musher still needs dupes to use...

Design works if I install "Automated Canisters" mod from workshop which lists: - The auto-sweeper will now move liquid bottles and gas canisters like any other item
