A quick way to check if you have a txv is to block the condenser airflow and watch your low side pressure. If it holds steady, you have a txv. If the pressure rises, you have a piston.

can't believe he went with the coil. the overall cost of an air conditioner is high with that style. the coils are not good at handling a load and constant run operation. They just get dirty too easy and very difficult to clean well. too bad. I would say to shoot for 5-8 degrees subcooling. bet it had a txv.

Yea it does suck. We gave him a good deal on the coil but we tried to give him a really good deal to just swap the unit out too. He just didn’t have the money. Paying for the coil in two payments.

I use that one as my refrigerant tools bag. Probes, leak detector, fittings….The Veto carries all my hand tools.

How can I tell if I have a microchannel coil? Also can I pump it down?

Tube and fin usually has copper u bend coils on the edges and has deep aluminum fins. Microchannels are all aluminum and look more like a newer style car radiator. Yes you can pump them down.

You can pump them down? I've been lied to this entire time. Never even tried because I've always heard "The pressure is to much" which never made sense to me because... It's still a condenser coil lol.
