I would rinse your sponges out a bit more often Corey(in tank water), I know your nitrates are low now but it's the reason why they can rise.

Why don't you use a surface skimmer for canister filters?Fluval is making one but i'm not sure if it's available to buy on amazon uk..

Did you wash sponges and media in ro or tank water? Washing in ro will kill benifitial bacteria

I would recommend washing the media and sponges in tank water rather than RO water 👍 just to prevent potentially resetting any biological benefit of the filter

I believe washing in ro will kill any beneficial bacteria within the filter media

I didn't rinse the biological in ro, I used tank water for that.

I did the sponges in ro water and the biological in the tank water so that the beneficial bacteria doesn't die off

you should rinse your biological media in tank water you take out when doing a water change not RODI water, otherwise each time you rinse your bio media you're killing off the bacteria that you have colonising the biological media. tank is looking great though Corey, great job, and from such a young reefer! great stuff mate keep it up :)
