NO INTROS Summer Themed Ballet Class | Intermediate Level | Kathryn Morgan

This is the No Talking or Intros version of my Summer-Themed Intermediate Level Class. I tried to go pretty straight across-the-board intermediate for this class. Feel free to do it on pointe or on flat! The music is Trisha Wolf's "Songs of Summer" album. I will link it below. As always, focus on placement and alignment. Keep working to build strength!

Hi I'm Kathryn!
I am a former soloist with the New York City Ballet and Miami City Ballet. When I was a young student, I was always looking for insights into the ballet world and how to improve my dancing as well as beauty and lifestyle tips. Now that I am a professional, it is my turn to share.

Hi, I have an important question. Yesterday we were doing demi plies with arms in first position. And I noticed that I don‘t know how far I have to go down the demi plies. My ballet friend told me that there is an easy rule: You really have to go as far down as possible without lifting your feet from the ground. Is that rule right? Because when I follow this rule I have the feeling that I am way to deep in my demi plie. Pleasee help! Ps: Sorry for my english mistakes. I am from germany.

alles gut! dein Englisch ist super! (Coming from a native English speaker I couldnt tell it was ur second language, keep it up!) wenn man ein demi plié macht, sollte man genau das machen, was dein Kumpel dir gesagt hat :) alles richtig!

Runqiao Du explains that the knees shouldn't surpass the line of foot during demi pliés, the exception is on 2nd position. But in my school we use the rule you explained.

In demi plie you go down as far as possible, without lifting the heel off the ground. I recommend the book "Basic Principles of Classical Ballet" by A. Vaganova

All of this also only applies on the basis you are in correct alignment. If you lean back or forward or allow your turnout to collapse you would possibly be able to go further down then you would in correct posture and alignment even while keeping your heels on the ground.
