"How much of this is what inside the game looks like" All of it. That whole trailer was all in game footage and graphics. "Do you guys make versions of you or totally different people." Personally I make a totally different character. Games for me are about escapism so it's generally more fun to come up with a chacter that I can play as rather than self inserting myself in there (though generally all my characters do at least have elements of me in them). There are people that make themselves, as well as people who just mess around and see how weird of a character they can manage to make, though I couldn't see what the statistical split is between the different approaches. I'd guess it's fairly even between self and other though with a side offshoot of the "how goofy can I make them" kind of people. "Innapropriate questions about the technical advancements to your body" So in the Cyberpunk world enhancements do extend below the belt shall we say. There are cybernetic enhancements in the lore called Mr. Studd and Midnight Lady which are exactly what you would think. It also extends further and often darker for how a hyper technological world handles issues of sex. For example the world features what are referred to as dolls which is where a sex worker gets implants which allow them to delve into the clients mind give them exactly what they want and then at the end the workers memories of all of that is erased so they they don't remember any of what they learned about the person or what they did. Which has it's obvious benefits but at the same time you can likely see the ways that could be abused which is a common theme of the games world and how it showcases technology. Technology in Cyberpunk is all about that blend of how much power and capability it brings to people but also in all the ways it can be abused and misused. It kind of reminds me of a line from a game I love called Red Dead Redemption 2 "We can have fire, and we can have the knowledge of fire, but with that comes the knowledge of everything". You can't pick and choose what aspects you get. Any kind of advancement naturally comes with the good and the bad and in Cyberpunk's case the advancement of technology is no different.

In most games where the player is expected to make moral choices that effect the plot progression, on my first play through I usually try to make a version of myself, and then try to play through the game, making the choices on my own moral framework, and seeing the results that accomplishes. It's fun to explore how one's moral framework "works" in more extreme situations outside of the societal environment that has moved us in to the morality we currently hold. A second time going through the game, I'll often make a new character with their own morality and decision framework to optimize my "fun" while playing the game.

@TA3DArtist
@TA3DArtist 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ragnar452 to make an exact model of someone there are two methods. One would be facial scanning like we did on Just Cause 4. You can either do this using a series of photographs or using an actual 3D large form scanner. The other method would be to hand sculpt the likeness of the person. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Scans can sometimes be stuck in a particular expression if the person being scanned makes one during the process and it isn’t caught. Meanwhile hand sculpting will usually result in a more neutral look but also one that is just a little “off”. Usually an error in eye shape or feature ratio.

@@Ragnar452 I made two hundred head scans for Just Cause 4. Each scan was created from twenty photos of a living person. Then that data has to be cleaned up, made game res, retextured and then made to fit the standardized body for the game so that heads can be swapped in and out. It’s a long process, took us several months. And then we had to make all the clothing and other accessories.

I make an idealized version of me, me at my best :) Everything you saw is how the game looks like when you play, with slightly better graphics in cutscenes, where you only control your dialogue options, but still the same models, just a little bit more detailed and it switches seamlessly in between those. There is no distinction. You could definitely be a voice actor/motion actor, you have both the voice, announciation and expressiveness required :)

I clicked this one super fast. Thanks for the shout out. ALL this is from the game, this is how playing looks like, as "too good to be true" as it looks it's all how playing it looks like. As for the characters, I sometimes create someone in my image and other times I create characters that are nothing like me (different gender, different skin colour, personality/physique completely different to mine, etc.). I know there's a lot of shooting in the gameplay trailer but you can actually finish the game without killing a single person. As for the choices in the game, they are so significant that depending on your early choices you may or may not have an access to numerous missions and it completely changes the final outcome.

Usually they tend to write in the title what kind of a trailer you're watching. If it's a cinematic trailer, then it's CGI animation, and it has nothing to do with what you actually see in the game. When it's called gameplay trailer (like the one you watched with the narration), then it's all gameplay footage. So in that trailer everything you saw is exactly how it appears in the game.

Even though China is a bigger market, their laws are a lot stricter in terms of what can be depicted so often the release there is delayed a lot longer so that companies can censor the base game.

I've always found it odd how someone can be so enthusiastic about the things they're seeing from a particular medium, yet show absolutely no desire to engage with it themselves. Video games contain some of the best stories ever written with some of the best and most well-realized characters you'll ever see - the difference being that with video games, your own choices often have a major effect on both. Such is why I prefer video games over books or movies; I can have an impact. As a writer, you would benefit beyond belief from experiencing these stories & interactions yourself. True, if you've never really touched a complex video game before or haven't done so in many years, it can take a fair bit of time to acclimate and get used to the standard conventions of the industry. But given that gaming is the largest and most profitable entertainment medium on the planet by literal lightyears, there really isn't any reason not to at least dip your toes in the vast ocean of available titles. I've watched a large number of your videos and it always makes me smile as you stare wide-eyed and astounded at what you're seeing. Clearly there's some major interest on your part, so what is stopping you?
@HannaHsOverInvested
@HannaHsOverInvested Жыл бұрын
I guess you haven't watched some of my more recent ones. The things that have stopped me in the past have been time, general knowledge, it's very intimidating. And I'm afraid that I'll hate it. It. I'm really bad at being bad at things and if I'm bad at gaming I will hate it for that reason alone. So fear of that. I am going to try though. I've been mentioning that more recently in my videos that I am hoping to start in April. That's my plan. I'm in school right now and really busy, April is a month off so I figure that's the moment for me to try and figure out this new thing.
@VendettaSoundtracks
@VendettaSoundtracks Жыл бұрын
@@HannaHsOverInvested I have probably missed your more recent stuff, yeah. But regardless, I'm glad to hear that you're planning to give games a shot. I did figure that the intimidation factor would be a major part of it. As mentioned in my original comment, video games are a fun pasttime for those who are familiar, but quite time consuming for people who aren't. There is indeed a few barriers to entry (cost, learning, etc.), but once you get over those, it's likely to be your new favourite hobby. The most important first step, in my opinion, is finding a game you can settle into. One that eases you into it's gameplay, but then proceeds to challenge you on the things it has taught later down the line. This is, truthfully, easier said than done, because a lot of games nowadays expect you to have a preconcieved notion of how games work, the standardized controls for each video game genre, etc. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to April and watching you overcome these obstacles. My original comment came from a place of passion for industry and the knowledge that you would get so much benefit from playing games as a writer, so I hope it didn't come across too blunt or rash. If you're looking for some advice or recommendations, feel free to get in touch.

Holy shit, your style & way of writing is exactly the same as mine, even where you associate music with a character & scene. When I first began writing my stories & novels, I wrote by what I thought the “world” sounded like, I.e. I let music drive my pencil. It feels great. Also I’ve done a half-finished series where every book (12 books) has a different protagonist with their own stories but in the end, they all live in the same universe & their own stories ultimately ties into the main arc of the entire series. There’s a beginning & an end, and every individual story tied into the ultimate end. And I re-use my characters a lot, so book 1 will have these characters and then book 6 shows these same characters again and so on and it just feels great honesty. The thing I do though is that in the entire series, there is one character that you can consider the main protagonist of the universe, as every protagonist of every book is tethered to this main protagonist who we meet first in books 1 - 2. Great video btw! I LOVE your enthusiasm to storytelling and learning! Also that mask edit at the end of your video was super dope

This game is very story-heavy you're supposed to get really invested and emotional over the character you make and the people you'll interact with. And 2077 is one of the best type of story-driven games that actually give different outcomes based on the answers you give in the game. It's basically a "Choose your own adventure" novel, but with visuals and sound to go with it. You might be able to try making your own character in the game if they have a demo available.

One thing to note is that almost all games use ingame cutscenes now adays to one extent or another. Which basically means they use the same engine that is creating the gameplay models and such to create the cutscene. So it looks identical to gameplay(And basically is still gameplay since its doing this on the fly in the game without pre-rendering, just story time for the game). Cinematic Cutscenes are the ones as someone else mentioned that are pre-rendered and don't use the ingame graphics engine.

I've been a Mike Pondsmith, the original Cyberpunk game writer and a contributor to this, fanboy since the early years. He commented when asked about how close the Cyberpunk 2020 RPG dystopian vision was close to the 2020 reality, he stated something to the effect that he "wrote it as a warning, not a prophecy". The idea of the Cyberpunk universe is to present a dark reflection on what our world of focussed greed, techno-fetish and exploitation will become if unleashed without constraint, the answer is deadly, dark and horrifying. Sadly since the mid-90's when I fell in love with the genre until now, we as a global society have steadily slipped down this exact path.

Hi! I'm, like you, an early Cyberpunk 2020 fan. Played (or should I say mastered) the TTRPG a lot in the nineties and I remember how different our 90s' IRL world and CP2020 were back then. And how this difference almost disappeared with years/decades passing until nowadays. Corporations taking power over the governments, the fusion between mankind and technology, criminality and violence's growth... I couldn't agree more with your last sentence.

To answer your first question, in most of these kinds of games, I have a tendency to go with the default character. For instance, in the Mass Effect series, I went with the default character Shepard look. In a game that doesn’t have a default character, I create a character that looks as similar to me as possible. I don’t know if that’s typical of what other people do though. Anyway, I’m so pumped for Cyberpunk! Thanks for doing a reaction vid! ‎ Unrelated, have you read Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn Trilogy? I started reading it a while back and recently started getting back into it, and I’m loving it so far.

Death Stranding do mocap too but more extreme, they got Norman Reedus to be the main character from the looks, voice to his body language. The Director told that Norman Reedus could be making everyday activities like opening up a soda can and he would told Norman to hold the thought, do it again but this time in front of the camera. Peeing? Do it again in front of the camera. At the end we ended up having the whole Norman Reedus as a playable character :v

Almost always I make different characters. Usually I choose to play as female for my first 1-2 runs while I learn the game. After that, I choose a particular attitude of a person I know, either a friend, or myself, and play as if that character, with their behavior was in the world. If that person would have been angry, my response would be angry, if that person is easily frustrated, my character in game will get easily frustrated etc.

when there's character customization in-game I definitely try to recreate myself as a way to immerse myself even more :) and about distinguishing gameplay and cutscenes it can be hard to tell here since it's all mostly in a first-person perspective and there's little to no interface. to be clear - almost everything that you've seen is happening in-game but at some points, the control is taken from the player for a more cinematic impression. for example, that part where they're sliding from a skyscraper is clearly scripted, while all the shooting, fighting, and driving is gameplay.

to answer you question about the very first trailer you watched : the game is like a huge one-shot. The is literally no cutscenes, ni cinematic everything is in the game through the eyes of the main character (or Johnny, when you play though one of his flashbacks). 100% of the launch trailer is in-game, in engine

so for you 6:00 question; I make a resident of their world so I can live vicariously through them. I role-play, I am someone else, somewhere else, and I'm in a world my character understands. Its why I play mostly female characters, since I'm not focusing on representing myself in-game, I have the freedom to create whoever, or whatever I want. its why a set male or female protagonist doesnt bother me, and why custom characters are so fun..... that said, writing from the future, the character customization in CP2077 is a bit mixed. Im not terribly thrilled with it, but its fine.

So, your question about how much of the gameplay trailer is in game, I played a lot of the game already and I could say at least 80% of it is in game. So it really is a gameplay trailer, unlike other game trailers that used rendered cutscenes as their trailers and said it's a gameplay trailer. However, I would also say that most of what they're showing here in the trailer is like... a playable cutscene if you will. It's scripted dialogue (and choices), setting and npcs, but you can still play and interact with other things in the environment. Sometimes you can even get away from that interaction entirely and derailing the plot, which I thought wasn't possible, but boy did they surprise me.

Unfortunately they outright lied in the trailers. None of your choices end up mattering and almost all of the features they're talking about ended up in the game. They released trailers promising this stuff right up until the release of the game so they're probably going to get sued unless they can scramble to start implementing this stuff. We'll see. The sad part is, Keanu Reeves' involvement likely derailed the game. It's not his fault but some executive decided that they needed a big name actor involved and it forced the developers to scramble to re-write the story to make him a major part of the game.

You need to become a gamer. If you've ever been immersed or emotionally involved in a movie or a TV show as a third-party observer to a point where you get angry when someone does something cruel, cry when a likeable character you've barely known for an hour dies, or jump with joy when the pathetic, pitiful, and unlikely hero finally finds true love... just imagine what one single video game will do in 100 hours of playing it as a first-party participant. Gamers experience things other people can only dream of.

wanted to address your question at 6:10 regarding character creation! So, lots of games allow you to create your own character and customize their appearance. Every game's character creation system is a little different. The truth is, all in-game character creation menus are limited as to what they can do. As a general rule of thumb, it's very difficult to create a character in a game that has significant resemblance to you in real life. It's not impossible, it's just difficult. Some people do take the challenge; I've also seen people create celebrity lookalikes. For example, if you look up "Dragon Age Inquisition Danaerys", you'll see that a lot of people have made characters in that game with striking resemblance to Danaerys from Game of Thrones. The reason why she in particular is popular for that game is because of the unique features and limitations offered by that game's character creation menu in particular that lend more toward that kind of facial structure. I personally just make characters that I think look cool/good-looking without worrying too much if they resemble me in real life. A lot of people do something in between, making a cool-looking characters with some features that somewhat resemble them for real, but that still definitely don't look totally alike. It's really whatever you feel like doing, playing video games that offer that feature is fun because it's like playing make-believe.

well actually you can create your character in the game , not buying the game without the need to play - cyberpunk 2077 is based on the tabletop role-playing game cyberpunk 2020 - download a book, it lies in free access in the Internet and make it your character ( if you want) but I personally don't see the point in creating of myself, probably because I play games with dark and depressive worlds where everything is doomed to suffering and constant struggle for survival, cyberpunk such worlds is - he is fierce and grim , why make yourself and condemn yourself to misery ?

5:57 personally, in the games like these, that allow character creation, I prefer to create a character that's completely different from myself. Because me IRL is boring and makes boring decisions, I'd rather roleplay as a drunken brawler that emits chaotic energy and shits into people's beds or an evil psycho that shreds people left and right and has no sense of morals. It's more exciting and fun to roleplay as someone else, IMO.

to answer your question regarding character creation, it's been proven time and again that the vast majority of players will make a character that looks as close to themselves as is possible with the customisation options available, however this trend is seen most commonly in games with only a single character per play through/per account option, when you look at games where you're not locked into a single character and can make multiple characters, after playing the game through the first time with their 'clone' character they will usually go back and create a totally new and unique character that is nothing like themselves sometimes drastically so, it just depends on the type of game and the level of customisation available by the developers of the game for character creation.
