My usual annual trip to the Altoona area to check out the action on the Pittsburgh Line began on October 11, 2022. Earlier in the day, I spent time checking out the trains east of Altoona. In the afternoon, I went to the top of the mountain to catch the trains cresting the grade at Gallitzin Tunnels.
Making it interesting was the engineer of Norfolk Southern train 63V, who entertained the railfans at the tunnel with a “Jingle Bells” horn salute!
