Inno al Re (English: Hymn to the King), composed by Giovanni Paisiello, was the national anthem of the southern European kingdom of the Two Sicilies from 1816 until the Italian unification in 1860.

The Hymn of the Two Sicilies «God keep the King for long and long age as in the heart there is long live Fernando the King. God keep it to the double throne of his fathers. God keep it to us, Long live Fernando the King. " The quoted text is taken from a score dated between 1835 and 1840, intended for Princess Eleonora Galletti of Palazzolo, wife of the diplomat Folco Ruffo di Calabria, Neapolitan ambassador to Turin. The score foresees the performance with two parts of singing: soprano and bass. The instruments are: flutes, C clarinets, oboes, F horns, C trumpets, bassoon and serpentone (ancient instrument similar to an organ pipe). The problem of the text of the Anthem of the King by Giovanni Paisiello has been raised several times. According to several sources, the Hymn did not have exactly a text and the words were changed on several occasions. The version we report, found in an antiquarian bookshop by Roberto de Simone in 1996, purchased by the collector Claudio Lamberti and donated to the Library of the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella, was most likely the one used on official occasions. On the occasion of diplomatic meetings abroad, Ambassador Folco Ruffo of Palazzolo delivered it together with the music for execution. Prince Ruffo di Palazzolo, born in Naples on 11 June 1801, was Ambassador of the Bourbons to Turin and Switzerland. He died on April 17, 1848. The score found was part of a collection of scores that belonged to the family. Its origin is attested by the word Palazzolo written in pen on the cover. The text of the choral part refers to the time when the Kingdoms of Naples and Sicily were distinguished, when Ferdinand I was IV King of Naples and III of Sicily. The expression "God holds him to the double throne of his Fathers" suggests that the text was composed before 1799. Ferdinand, in fact, returned to Naples after the French occupation, modified for himself and for his descendants the title of King of the Two Sicilies. Giovanni Paisiello, Maestro di Cappella di Ferdinando, composed the Anthem of the King in 1787.7

It's actually an intresting story. A Viking conquered Sicily and created the Kingdom of Sicily. Afterwards it conquered southern Italy and the court was moved to Napels. A revolt broke out on Sicily and it seperated itself. Now there was the defacto Kingsom of Sicily on Sicily and the dejure Kingdom of Sicily in Napels. After the napoleonic wars, these were unified, thus the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies

The Sicilians never forgot the injustice that they had to suffer by the hands of the Bourbons of Naples, and they periodically rebelled and went to war against Naples throughout the 44 years of existence of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies until such kingdom collapsed.

Casteddu Mapper Puoi parlarmi in Italiano comunque, si lo so che era molto povero, ma il Regno delle Due Sicilie aveva un potenziale enorme che poteva sfruttare per migliorare l'economia ed introdurre una economia liberale nel regno grazie alla posizione strategica, poi il re Ferdinando II avrebbe dovuto seguire l'esempio delle altre monarchie europee con la concessione di costituzioni semi liberali, in questo modo credo che l'Unita d'Italia si poteva far indietreggiare di 18 anni, ossia al 1848.

Casteddu Mapper Ho detto che avevano le potenzialità non che erano potenti, se le Due Sicilie erano povere era per colpa di chi la governava e dei monarchi che hanno governato Napoli, si lo so che non era liberale ma se sapeva quanto era alta la posta in gioco avrebbe potuto unificare l'Italia in un colpo di mano se voleva nel 1848.

Il testo citato è tratto da una partitura datata tra il 1835 ed il 1840, destinata alla principessa Eleonora Galletti di Palazzolo, moglie del diplomatico Folco Ruffo di Calabria, ambasciatore napoletano a Torino. La partitura prevede l’esecuzione con due parti di canto: soprano e basso. Gli strumenti sono: flauti, clarinetti in do, oboi, corni in fa, trombe in do, fagotto e serpentone (antico strumento simile ad una canna d’organo). Più volte è stato sollevato il problema del testo dell’Inno del Re, di Giovanni Paisiello. Secondo diverse fonti l’Inno non aveva precisamente un testo e le parole vennero modificate in più occasioni. La versione che riportiamo, ritrovata in una libreria antiquaria da Roberto de Simone, nel 1996, acquistata dal collezionista Claudio Lamberti e donata alla Biblioteca del Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella, molto probabilmente era quella utilizzata nelle occasioni ufficiali. L’ambasciatore Folco Ruffo di Palazzolo, in occasione di incontri diplomatici all’estero, la consegnava insieme alla musica per l’esecuzione. Il Principe Ruffo di Palazzolo, nato a Napoli l’11 giugno 1801, fu ambasciatore dei Borbone a Torino ed in Svizzera. Morì il 17 aprile 1848. La partitura ritrovata faceva parte di un fondo di spartiti appartenuti alla famiglia. La sua provenienza è attestata dalla dicitura Palazzolo scritta a penna sulla copertina. Il testo della parte corale si riferisce al tempo in cui si distinguevano i Regni di Napoli e di Sicilia, quando Ferdinando I era IV Re di Napoli e III di Sicilia. L’espressione “Iddio lo serbi al duplice trono dei Padri suoi” fa intendere che il testo fu composto prima del 1799. Ferdinando, infatti, rientrato a Napoli dopo l’occupazione francese, modificò per sé e per i discendenti il titolo in Re delle Due Sicilie. Giovanni Paisiello, Maestro di Cappella di Ferdinando, compose l’Inno del Re nel 1787.

It stands as a testament for the dynasties that ruled Sicily. The kingdom was founded by Normans who conquered the area from the Byzantine Empire & the Emirate of Sicily. After the extinction of the Norman Hautreville dynasty, the kingdom passed on to the German Hohenstaufen dynasty. Thre Hohenstaufen king Frederick II was also the Holy Roman Emperor, so thre Pope was insecure about his domain being encircle by that of Frederick & launched a war against him by proxy (Guelphs & Ghibbellines). After the death of Frrederick II, the kingdom of Sicily was under the rule of his illegitimate son Manfred. So the Pope requested Charles, Duke of Anjou & brother of King Louis IX of France to conquer Sicily, which he did. He successfully did so & later purchased the right to claim the throne of Jerusalem from Mary of Antioch, granddaughter of Isabella I of Jerusalem. However, his unpopularity with the Sicilian people caused a revolt, taking advantage of which James II of Aragon conquered the island of Sicily, while the mainland (known as the Kingdom of Naples) continued to be ruled by descendants of Charles. When the Angevin line became extinct, Ferdinand I of Aragon conquered it. Ferdinand I's grandson Ferdinand II married Isabella of Castille (which had already conquered Leon & Grenada by that time) & their daughter Joanna I married Philip, son of HRE Maximilian I & Mary of Burgundy. Mary's grandfather, Philip III, Duke of Burgundy had obtained the County of Flanders & the Duchy of Brabant in marriage. Joanna I & Philip's son, HRE Charles V (Charles IV of Naples & II of Sicily) had inherited the Duchy of Austria & the County of Parma from his grandfather & captured the Grand Duchy of Tuscany following the extinction of the Medici line. He bequeathed his Spanish, Italian & Burgundian titles to his son Philip II of Spain, who later also conquered Portugal when the House of Aviz died out. Following the extinction of the Spanish Hapsburgs, the crown of Spain went to Philip V, grandson of Louis XIV of France. Philip V's son, Charles III (Charles VII of Naples & V of Sicily) inherited the Duchy of Arma from his mother Elizabeth Farnese. Naples & Sicily was reunited into Kingdom of 2 Sicilies by Charles III's son, Ferdinand I (Ferdinand IV of Naples & III of Sicily).

Cazzo ti ho beccato giusto dopo 3 minuti lol L'inno è in italiano perchè è più un inno reale che nazionale, e pressochè tutta la nobiltà era di madrelingua italiana. L'italiano era lingua ufficiale insieme al latino ed era insegnato negli istituti pubblici. Ovviamente napoletano e siciliano erano di uso comunissimo, soprattutto tra le classi più basse, talmente tanto che anche il re di Due Sicilie parlava napoletano per avvicinarsi al popolo.

Today if we have a Monarchy it should be an elective Monarchy: Two Kingdoms and One Empire: North: The Kingdom of Sardinia (Regno di Sardegna) with the Savoia dynasty and South: the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Regno delle Due Sicilie) with the Borbone-Due Sicilie Dynasty. Each 6 YEARS one King of Sardinia and the other of Two Sicilies become the "EMPEROR OF ITALY".

you are wrong: the Kingdom of Two Sicilies was created illegally and illegitimately in 1816 and ended in 1860 with the invasion of the northern Italians. The kingdom that was founded in 1130 was the Kingdom of Sicily which ended in 1816 when the Bourbons illegally and illegitimately incorporated it into the Kingdom of Naples to create that historical disgrace called Kingdom of Two Sicilies.

@@davideleone9809 Davide visto che a quanto vedo sei italiano e ti rispondero' in Italiano.Il Sud Italia inteso come stato unitario,nasce prima del Regno delle due Sicilie(1816-1861)che altro non è che la legittimazione e la riposizione dei della Dinastia dei Borbone al trono ma dalla fondazione del Regno da parte della prima dinastia Normanna nella persona di Ruggero II di Altavilla(Nominato presso Avellino con Bolla papale di Anacleto II il 27 settembre 1130 e incoronato dallo stesso nella cattedrale di Palermo nel Natale delllo stesso anno col nome di Ruggero II d'Altavilla, Rex Siciliae, ducatus Apuliae et principatus Capuae.Ovvero Re' delle Sicile,Duca di Puglia e Principe di Capua.Prima dei Borbone si sono succedute numerose dinastie,alcune come gli Angio',gli Aragona,gli Asburgo...

@@anthemis170879 sono Siciliano, ma l'Italiano ovviamento lo capisco perfettamente. I Borbone non discendevano dagli Altavilla che crearono il Regno di Sicilia, ma si trovarono a regnare sul Regno di Sicilia e sul Regno di Napoli in base al diritto di conquista militare quando Carlo di Borbone con la sua armata spagnola conquistò prima Napoli nel 1734 e la Sicilia nel 1735. Poi nel 1816 Ferdinando III di Sicilia, nonché Ferdinando IV di Napoli, accorpò illegalmente e illegittimamente il Regno di Sicilia al Regno di Napoli per formare quell'obbrobbrio storico chiamato Regno delle Due Sicilie. Le "Due Sicilie" non sono mai esistite come entità statale prima del 1816, ma era solo una mera locuzione geografica inventata da papa Clemente IV che non si rassegnò mai di perdere il vassallaggio dell'isola di Sicilia dopo i Vespri Siciliani del 1282. Di Sicilia ce n'è una sola: la nostra meravigliosa isola di Trinacria, e la nostra terra ha ben poco da spartire con il meridione d'Italia. Noi abbiamo avuto il nostro stato per 745 anni, con uno dei più antichi parlamenti del mondo e a tratti anche una costituzione. Noi abbiamo la nostra storia, lingua, arte, cultura, cucina, usi e costumi che sono abbastanza diversi rispetto a quelli di Napoli e del meridione d'Italia. Linguisticamente abbiamo qualche affinità solo con i Calabresi della provincia di Reggio e con i Salentini.

@@davideleone9809 non ci siamo capiti,ho specificato che l'Italia del sud come stato indipendente è stato fondato circa seicento anni prima della nascita del Regno delle due Sicilie,che altro che non è che la continuazione sotto un altra dinastia dello stato nato nel 1130 e fondato dalla dinastia degli Altavilla.Che aveva unificato tutte le terre al di sotto del Volturno compresa la Sicilia.

@@anthemis170879 sono d'accordo sul fatto che gli Altavilla crearono un unico stato unendo tutte le contee in loro possesso. Non sono d'accordo sul fatto che il Regno delle Due Sicilie è la continuazione del regno creato dai Normanni nel 1130. Infatti nel 1282 con i Vespri Siciliani, la Sicilia e il meridione d'Italia andarono ognuno per conto proprio, ritrovandosi insieme nella stessa entità statuale solamente nel 1816, vale a dire dopo ben 534 anni di storia distinta e separata.

L'Italia si è unita in un solo popolo, ed è diventata più forte,conosciuta in tutto il mondo per la sua cultura. Con il mio discorso non vorrei che pensassi che io sia pacifista perché non lo sono. All'Unione Europea servirebbe proprio un pezzo di artiglieria nelle gengive.

Io direi che il più grande sbaglio è stato di Garibaldi di invadere il sud anche perché venne licenziato da Vittorio Emanuele II e lui voleva la repubblica non la monarchia dei Savoia e quelli del nord si so rubati tutto e hanno fatto stragi di persone e quelli del sud emigravano per questo come quelli del nord nel 1800 fino all'unità. kingdom of two sicilies lives. i m south italian and i just want to say , the kingdom of two sicilies was attacked on 1861 for italy unification , many south italian men have been killed and lot women , girls and childs have been rape and killed by north italian soldiers, please believe me , whatever you read about italy unification it s all lies , they told a lot lies about that. north italy was full of debts as south italy was very very rich , they wanted to unify italy to pay off these debets ,then after that all belongers ,golds and money were taken to the north italy , if you don t believe me, you can read a book (terroni, all that has been done to ensure that italians of south became Southerners) you can relize in this book that the truth about Italian Unification finally is being discovered and is being told. this book will soon cause a revolution, because a south italian will also know all the crimes commited against south italy wasn t never punished , justice was never served.

@@oioi2802 The Habsburg of Spain ruled as kings of Naples and Sicily from 1516 to 1700, then Philip of Bourbon became king of Spain but lost Naples and Sicily to Charles VI of Habsburg-Austria (Charles VI of Naples) and Vittorio Amedeo II of Savoy (Vittorio Amedeo of Sicily). Between 1714 and 1715, Charles of Bourbon, son of Philip conquered both Naples and Sicily from Charles VI (who was crowned King of Sicily after ceding Sardinia to Vittorio Amedeo) and became Charles VII (VIII) of Naples and III (V) of Sicily. When his half-brother Ferdinand VI died, Charles became King of Spain and decide to separate the Neapolitan and Sicilian crowns from the Spanish one, to prevent an annexation. So, the second son of Charles, Charles, became Prince of the Asturias and heir to the Kingdom of Spain, while his third son, Ferdinand, became King of Naples and Sicily as Ferdinand IV and III, and, later on, Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies. Also, the Kingdom on Naples and Sicily were part of the domains of the Crown of Aragon, since the Kingdom of Castille didn't have a opening on the Mediterranean sea
