Martin, congratulations once again on the work. Even though version 1.4 doesn't come with as many features, it will come even better. I really liked the feature of being able to preview the filter results, and the fact that the text changes when we select fonts saves us a lot of time. Great job. Thank you!

Awesome new features you are working on. The multi-page arranging sounds great and I love the mirror nodes feature. The sewing community will also appreciate those a lot I guess. BTW I love the layered PDF import. So very helpful for my work (the community using beamers to cut their fabric love it to and Inkscape is more and more recommended). Once you get to exporting layered PDF as well, you will be my designated hero, not wearing a cape, but a billycock ☺. But don't get stressed, I know, so many asking for features for their onw special needs and that needs time, But overall, Inkscape has so vastly improved over the years and the work of all developers is hugely appreciated in the community. Thank you Martin and all the rest 😍🥰

The "Live Text" feature is one of the rare feature I missed, Glad it's available now. I however notice in this beta1, font style section (bold, italic, underline) is gone. would be nice if they appear as button on the toolbar when text is selected.

At this point Inkscape has become its own Brand. Now I don't look at it as Alternative of Ai but as a Standalone FOSS competitor which is just awesome on its own and getting more awesome day by day.

I'm super excited about the CMYK feature because it's really important. Thanks for the great work 👏.

Symmetry as Photosop or Krita. It would be better if there was another way, where you don’t need to select anything; a part of the canvas is simply mirrored, depending on the choice of the mirroring method (or symmetry). It would be really cool (really, really) if you could combine the mirroring (symmetry) approaches of PS and Krita into Inkscape. All examples of mirroring methods are publicly available on KZfaq. It’s very convenient to just draw and not worry about the selections.

Hey - thanks for pushing the fix for the symbol bug! Hopefully I will see it in the final release of 1.4. Now if I can get symbols alpha sorted in the symbol dialog again like it is in the document resources. Haven't tried the shape builder on raster images yet. Radical!

Multipage and symmetry sounds awesome! Will there be more canvas speed-up? I would like to see perspective grids and the ability to transform raster work to vector lines instead of shapes.

Finally tried the shape builder on raster images. OMG! Works great. Also noticed behavior>snapping>always snap to grid solves 100% of my snapping issues. No dead zones! Plenty of crafters and makers will appreciate this.

Great video as always, and the symmetry tool will come in handy, I usually do that manually or start from the mirror LPE.

I often say the best feature is the one that fixes a stone in the shoe annoyance to the developer. Looking forward to playing with symmetry and thanks for all your work on such a great app. BTW, I'm hoping the fix for "improved accuracy for boolean operations" fixes a problem I battled last week in a project I was doing. I was trying to create an entire repeating page of overlapping hexagon pattern of circle overlaps where I tried to use shape builder tool to just keep the overlap lozenges. When I had several selected or most notably if the circle to circle overlap was on a 30 deg diagonal, I found the stroke curves had distorted significantly from the smooth circle, almost like the curve coordinates went through a lack of numeric precision point. I ended up creating one each of the negative space and then cloning. Had so many objects at one point the UX got sluggish in layers list, which I fixed by combining the paths into one.

I’m exited for that symmetry tool, I’ve done a lot of hacky things in the past trying to do that same thing!

Is there any chance you can develop a new transition FX mask for black & white images or B&W graphics? If you are, thanks in advance. I'd like to import B&W graphics/images into Inkscape and use that as transition FX mask to pick up colours from two layers beneath.

I think you're missing the fact about the OpenGL implementation, which is a huge deal for me and I believe for many other users. The long-awaited resolution of the screen tearing issue is a reason for celebration itself and should be advertised more, in my opinion. Tectonic change. Thank you!

Woo, the pages layouts feature is great! I'm curious about the "symmetric alignment" too. Regarding the "Import pages" checkbox, it feels a bit confusing to me. Like... yeah, I have selected some pages to import, why would I NOT want to import them? Maybe phrase it (and make it work) the other way around? Like "Only import objects and ignore pages" or "Exclude background pages"?

Hello Martin, sorry if my question does not concern the upcoming update... I created a new filter as explained in the Sweater Cat Design tutorial (Saving and reusing custom filters) and it works perfectly (OSX). However, all the options on the filter tab are now duplicated... I posted my concern on Brandon's page, unfortunately my question apparently leaves him speechless... In more detail, the problem is the following: I click on "filters" in the menu bar, the list of submenus appears, including the new title ("bundled") with my new filter, everything is fine. When I hover over the other submenus, the different options appear, but in duplicate. I'm not sure my explanation is very clear... I'd be happy to share a screenshot. If anyone has an explanation or remedy, I'm all ears! Many thanks in advance ! Love from rainy Geneva, Anne

Symmetry sounds very useful! And yeah, I had this thought the very moment I heard Nick saying this in the video ;) I have downloaded 1.4 beta and used it for a bit, and I notice the context menu has changed from one of the dev versions I was using before (Inkscape 1.3.2 (091e20e, 2023-11-25)). It only shows the first level of the menu, and then only the second level after I click on something with a submenu. Also in cases where I Ctrl-click to select a particular objects in a group, and then press right mouse button, it now acts if I did a regular left click, e.g. is selecting the group instead of that pre-selected object like I wanted. I wonder if those are regressions of some sort, and should I report them?

I dont know if this is the right place to ask, but I wonder why open source projects all have problems with using font managers like nexus font. It would make life so much easier - who is still simply bloating system with installing all the fonts?.. Anyways could you at some point make it possible so when font manager is running Inkscape can see fonts activated by it? Somehow commercial software can see them no problem - for example Affinity package - but neither Inkscape nor any other OS software I checked can do that. Blender, GIMP, Krita... none of them. Its really pain in the butt and main showstopper for me to switch with bigger part of the work to inkscape. I thought I will mention this again since I see there was great work done on handling fonts in this release. Is it so hard to add this? I have no clue, I am not a programmer. Maybe. But it would make working with fonts so much easier.

Can you please add a way for strokes to look pixilated along a grid like the pencil tool in Microsoft paint. I don't know if it's in the scope of Inkscape, but it would make drawing pixel art so much easier.

Hi Martin. I have some feedback for you regarding the beta. Firstly, fantastic job on what you have added. I am very much looking forward to finding new and interesting things for the new grid mode & I am LOVING the new font browser. It has sped up my workflow dramatically so THANK YOU. I have only found one bug. Whilst using the text tool, I have found that I have to click twice for a new text field. The flashing text cursor appears but it won't allow me to type anything until II click with the mouse a second time. I don't know if anyone else has had this issue hence why I am letting you know. As I said though, great job as usual and I am eager to see what the future holds for Inkscape ❤
