The NSU Ro 80 was the star of the 1967 International Motor Show in Frankfurt. At the time, NSU was a car maker with a long history in Germany. And with the Ro 80, it presented both an innovative design and an entirely new technology.The Ro 80 was NSU 's first experiment with a larger model and the world's first series-produced sedan with a rotary engine. The design followed the technology. The pioneering wedge shape with the compressed front was made possible by the relatively small rotary piston engine under the hood.

I have one in the 70s. Best performance car ever. 0 to 70 in first just left everything behind. And smooth..

They forgot to mention it's advanced semi-auto. gearbox, independent suspension all around with McPherson at the front, where the disc brakes(also rare in these years) were mounted internally. Mad car!

Compliments to the designer, Claus Luthe. He went on to become chief designer for BMW, and the rest is history.

I used to sell them , I was the UK's number one RO80 salesman in the UK in 1974. In 1977 a customer I had sold one to came in to buy a Peugeot 605 (we had changed franchise), I had to value the 11,000 mile RO80 in part exchange and first took it to our service manager (Expert) from a compression check we knew it needed new rotas it also needed an exhaust. The total cost would have been in 1977 money £1600 the Glasses Guide value was £950 so it was very challenging putting a deal together. I gave him £1100 in the end.

Mate's dad has one of these. The rotor tip problem was solved in 1970 apparently. I guess it was thirsty at 15l/100km for 2l displacement, but in the 60's that was actually pretty good for a luxury car. Shame they're not cheap to get like 20 years ago or I'd get one to play with!

I have 1 ready for drive and 1 in body restauration. The engine nearly needs no shifting in the inner city, and the car's suspension and brakes were better than Mercedes cars.
